#gecko in a bath?

they arent meant to be in bath tubs

idk, gonna <@&443773497429196810> cause maybe it is possible
in my experience- bathrooms typically are more humid then the rest of the house even without water running so you would run into humidity issues i would assume and also ... not particuarly wise to do ig? is there any specific reason you wanna do it in the bathroom...?
I feel like it'd be pretty easy for a gecko to escape that way honestly
On top of what Peachy mentioned
upgrading to a 36x18 / 40 gallon or bigger tank would be less money then renovations (a lot would probably need to be done) and also safer and easier in the long run. it would take a lot more then just covering the drain and such to get a bathroom in livable conditions for an animal. so you would probably just be better off doing a tank upgrade.
id imagine a bathtub is a pretty good enclosure aslong as you make sure its escapeproof
cheap and big
nine
no
not the same thing at all lol, and qa's already explained why not
he can fit under the door
and why would she do that instead of just letting you get a bigger enclosure?
so heating may cause issues
yeah thats what im thinking, u wouldnt have a bath anymore
that's just thousands of dollars in renovations to a room that isn't really necessary
20 gallons is livable. is it thriving min? no but it isn't gonna hurt a leopard gecko
the only valid reason they gave is humidity and u could just open the doors and windows for a couple days
im more concerned about the paint. some can off harmfull gasses when heated.
<@&870521900160401418> imma have another higher member chime in
maybe try to explain to her that it would be more efficient and cheaper + easier to just get an upgrade?
hm
id probably slather the bath with pond seal epoxy or something to stopbthe paint orbcoating from being exposed
remember to disclaim any advice given.
right
Your mom is okay with you wanting to fill your bath tub with dirt, create a custom lid, wire a bunch of heating, thermostats and whatnot in a bathroom but not a 40 gallon tank
LOL
also removing the toilet and such?
Honestly I'm concerned about what the bathtub is made out of and/or coated with. A lot of bathtubs nowadays are coated with gel resin and as far as I know that will give off toxic fumes when heated. If it's made of metal, I'd be concerned about it turning into an oven
it's not just about getting the bathtub safe
getting a bathroom LIVEABLE for an animal is not just about putting a mesh lid over a tub and calling it done
LOL
tbh i think a bath tub would be a good idea aslong as you can do it properly
ive had the idea before
but never went through with iy
If you don't know then I wouldn't do it
if you aren't sure what the house builders used to begin with don't do it lol
Cast iron would be a huge no especially
Any spot the heating touched would be so hot
how come?
I have no logical reason for why I wouldn’t do that (apart from not being to actually use the bathroom as a bathroom because u can’t rly shit next to an animal for all eternity cuz poo particles b sprayin 💯 and also thousands of dollars to renovate it to be animal safe), all i can rly say is that’s dumb and id convince her for a tank or something more….normal……
how so? the metal would only heat to the temp the environment is
that's not how metal works
Have you ever touched a seatbelt buckle that was sitting in the hot sun all day
Metal is a conductor
👍
LOL literally what I was about to say, have u ever touched any metal that’s been sitting in direct heat for a hot minute. Metal is a good thermal conductor, they heat above the ambient temperature because they r so good at absorbing heat
Porcelain too
Like u can put a thermostat over it sure but the ambient air temperature will b fucked then too
I'm not even sure how effective a thermostat would even be at that point
Well this was a fun discussion to read
LOL
nqa but also a lot of bathrooms use mildew and mold resistant silicone due to the high humidity so it isn’t 100% silicone which is unsafe for animals
@topaz pike
?
showing you about them getting an upgrade
