He's not trolling. Factually he's correct, you can't recoup the cost of any hero by performing well in modes. The investment cost is too high and the mode rewards are too small. If you consider a hero to be a "sunk cost", doing anything except stockpiling forever is incorrect. You have to value the hero itself, as in just having it, or you have to value the experience/emotional payoff of competing and performing well

But you can't play like a robot. "Having fun" is the item with the highest value to non-robots. Humans couldn't just hold resources forever because it's boring as fuck and why even play the game
