Even the characters that are aped from other franchises stand out on their own. (i.e. Vurk is a direct clone of Twitch from League of Legends in basic design and function, but they gave him a really endearing dynamic by giving him a brother to bounce off of and flesh him out.)

What that necromancer wanted to do with fawkes was not very clear. The blood magic ritual seems to have different outcome based on the lores of other gb heroes. For example. Vedan killed people for their blood to perform his blood ritual to transform him into a graveborn.

And in fereal lore (cn version is different than the eng verion), fereal was in a coma after battling with the mauler and the necromancer named gila hypnotized him and made him believe he was in love with her. The reason she did that is cuz she needed the heart of a truly lover for her blood ritual. In this case, gila used ferael as a sacrificial lamb for her blood ritual, but ferael still turned into a gb after the ritual.
So it's unclear whether the necromancer wanted to transform fawkes into gb or just wanted to use him as sacrifice

Namely, that they'd need it more than anyone else due to having lost the ability to heal on their own.
Broken leg? They may not feel it, but the leg's still broken, as in no longer works. They'd need to turn to either magic or superscience to fix that, or the leg will stay broken for eternity.

As for the healing magic discussion, it probably has limits. Like, in order to heal something, it probably has to still be there to heal. If Fuma could ask someone to magic her left eye back (something she's extremely insecure about), she gladly would, but it would be futile.
