tl;dr: Drez was orphaned then adopted by a hunting group, and they ran into a huge fire falcon. Drez slayed it, but then its friends came back for it and went on a rampage. Drez was overwhelmed, but his group left him to die while they got the hell out of dodge because he was "just a Durri". Somehow, though, Drez survived (he won't tell anyone how), and now he's a heartless mercenary who trusts nobody.
Important to note is that he's only 17 right now, and this probably happened years prior.

At the same time, we're told that most of them rely on fast breeding and overwhelming numbers to get anything accomplished like real-world rodents.
They may seem like a badass species because the only playable race there are more of is humans, but for the four heroes we've got, there are most likely tons and tons and tons of Durri who couldn't survive a fight with their own shadows.
Remember that Graveborn Durri OC I made? I made her with that assumption in mind. She got into her predicament in a moment of blind panic.

- Skreg wandering the Land of Exiles for some reason, probably looking for Vurk who he probably mistakenly heard was a bounty hunter (as opposed to hunter as in dragon hunting = dragon slaying)
- Meets Drez who was out hunting for food and mistook Savagehorn as prey
- Skreg and Drez duke it out but it takes too long so they call it quits
- Skreg's armor-piercing smile of relief hits Drez hard
- The duo separate
- A few days later Skreg was wandering again when a loud explosion nearby startles him
- Drez leaps out from the smoke and scans the area before seeing someone else jump out and chases after them
- Kren is running from Drez and heads towards Skreg
- Drez mistakens Skreg as Kren's accomplice, to which Kren lies that Skreg is his accomplice
- The three argue as bounty hunters locate Kren and Drez, both of varying notoriety
- Skreg gets lumped in with the two as their accomplice
- The three are now on the run, much to Skreg's dismay and confusion as to why he has a bounty on his head
- Kren and Drez hitch a ride on Savagehorn while Skreg is bawling his eyes out about how his life just hit rock bottom
- Vurk later over hears a VERY exaggerated account of Skreg's criminal activities as a getaway driver and gawkes at the wanted poster of his bro

It wasnt the villages first time sacrificing someone to the twin terrors , he wouldnt be possessed by them, the village sacrifice to stop the twin terrors from attacking most likely and in return the twins got feed, they possessed lucretia bc they were in a much weakened state from Zaphraels almost fatal blow and had lucretia to use as a vessel

In fact, I'm pretty sure the only heroes in any of that kind of relationship canonically are Shemira/Niru...

Yeah, I figured they had more siblings, but out of them, they're closest to each other. It's also stated that durri particularly caring about other members of their family is also a rarity.
I understand the logic of Durri being callous towards their other relatives, of course—presumably, like mice, one reason they reproduce so heavily is because so many of them get killed on a regular basis.
I mean, Drez's old hunting group flat-out considers their race expendable.
||(I also wrote my OC with this in mind. The necromancer who cursed her liked to experiment on durri specifically because it's way, way less noticeable than other races with how often they die and/or go missing anyway. If he experimented on Lightbearers, less populous Maulers, or Wilders, then he would have a far higher chance of getting caught.
