How did Maulers and wilders come to be? Did humans mate with animals or something?

The Wilders/Maulers were originally created by the lightbearers >1000 years ago

There's some lore on the official facebook but I can't really link it atm since mobile bad.

They were LB experiments, made when they were searching for eternal life (if I remember right...). They merged humans with animals and eventually discarded these creatures which came to be known as the Ya. Eventually the Ya split into two factions, the Wilders and the Maulers.

The split happened when the lightbearers declared war on the ya, wanting to wipe out their failed creations. The Ya who didn't want to fight went to the forest, befriending the forest's inhabitants and becoming the Wilders, while the Ya who stayed in the desert to fight became the Maulers.

The wilders basically just like to live in isolation. Most of them only live in yggdrasil except for a few curious ones like lorsan and kaz. They eventually had to make contact with outsiders to fight off the invading hypogeans

I almost complained that for a species that's supposed to be naturally timid to the point where they were discriminated against as cowards for a while, only Skreg fits the bill, but then I realized that most durri who actually do fit that description wouldn't exactly put themselves in the fray anytime soon. Sort of a weird vocal minority bias there.

I'm probably going to have to adjust a few things about my Fuma's design and backstory, at any rate.

Green is my thoughts on the where about of the Land of Exiles based on the info that it was between Mauler and LB border, no tracks ran through, it is a harsh environment where food is scarce (lack of vegetation), has a desert you need to pass through (located on the border with the Tomb of Ancients) to reach/escape from.

Another potential location is west of Windfall Gorge on the border to currently GB land Royal Manse (formerly LB before Thoran/Edwin/Theowyn incident happened)

With Kren's lore, it could be assumed that the prison could be located at the area west of Windfall Gorge simply based on the name and proximity to a body of water. Or, if my green location is right, its a crude joke on tears because of the expansive, rocky, elevated terrain with what looks like a lava lake.

And Kren's wanted poster in his lore explicitly listing "Durri" as his species rather than tribe seems to confirm this.

Pippa is a step in the right direction, if you ask me. They finally got over the stigma of anthro females in the area Lilith Games come from, even if it's just once. I hate the wilder faction more than any other, but heck if I didn't rush-build Pippa when I found out she was a she.

What I'm referring to is the obsession with beauty in female characters in certain Asian countries like Japan and China, as well as where I come from. Any imperfections on female designs just won't do, in most cases. Females with too much or too little fat? Nope. Overly tall or short females? Unless it makes them look beautiful in some way, then nope. Scars? Unless it shows off how attractive they are, nope. Etc.
Anthropomorphism is considered an "ugly" trait more than almost any other, which is why most anime and manga (outside of ones that directly cater to unbiased anthropomorphism, like Beastars) don't make furry females, just nekomimis-and if they do, they're much more human than the male furries.

So I'm surprised with all the nekomimis they did, that they actually went and designed Pippa, an anthro female character.

Something I'd like to see is a toned anthro hyena woman mauler who is half-DPS, half-buffer. Perhaps a mechanic where her laughter makes allies in range of it convert all control effects dealt towards them into energy, and the more control effects nullified and converted into energy on the team during that time, the stronger her following charge attack would be.
To encourage synergy of some sort, perhaps make allies that manually nullify control effects without her help buff her as well.

As for her weapon...perhaps a flail or a whip? That would be cool, I think.

And I DO hope it's the chef! Imagine a big guy with kitchen knives and a frying pan who can heal allies by giving them food

So either a heal tank that's better than Lucius or another support

But what we do need is more fodder heroes. As much as I like the current roster, it feels a bit repetetive to get the same 13 heroes and new fodder would make room for more early game faces.

I do see the upside in keeping them however, as more fodder heroes means a lesser chance to get a matching set

In JP lore, it stated that Isabella's 'heart' (includes capacity to feel compassion and associated emotions like happiness) died thus she became Graveborn.

心 (Heart in the spiritual sense) and 心臓 (The physical heart) are two different things but I don't think there is an English word for it? Soul isn't exactly right.

In Japan and other Asian countries, to lose your 'heart' means death as you need the Body, Spirit, and 'Heart' to be considered alive.

So in a sense, yes, Isabella died. Her body can't rot without a 'heart' and her spirit (which includes the mind) is still intact to its vessel. So if anything, she's an emotionless puppet that just exists.

Silvina bled out so she definitely dead in the body sense.

As for Vedan, it's probably the corruption of the 'body'. By attaining 'immortality' he gained an unaging body so long as he drinks blood. So the body is technically dead or else he'll possibly rot or his sanity (spirit) will be compromised. I'm assuming that the process of vampirism weighs heavily on both body and spirit.

Vedan's JP lore basically follows:

Vedan wanted immortality
Vedan accumulated necromantic tomes and information with his wealth
Vedan couldn't figure out how to speak with the dead and his dreams are put on hold
Vedan finds Isabella and Silvina and finds out Isabella can converse with the dead
Isabella speaks with the spirits and relays that a substantial blood sacrifice is needed to attain an undying body
Vedan trains up Silvina to go around the kingdom murdering and spilling blood left and right

• At this point Silvina dies
  After enough blood sacrifices are offered, Isabella enacts the ritual and Vedan's body is perverted in to a vampire
  Vedan ditches everything and disappears with the sisters

She was retconned to be Isabella's sister and Lilith hasn't fixed that

Silvina's JP lore states in the first few sentences that she died for Isabella's well being

So in that sense, ENG Silvina lore is... incorrect.

She certainly gave up a lot of wordly things, titles too wouldn't be a stretch--and there might be a line stating that she gave up her title too, but I can't check the lore ATM.

In regards to JP Belinda, it’s not stated she is a savant but she is described to have been incredibly gifted but had little interest in learning noble etiquette. It’s stated that she threw away her noble lifestyle, not her lineage so she is likely still an heiress.

Also Belinda’s loner and friendless status is upped be her being socially awkward (oblivious/inattentive) and seemingly standoffish as a result

I think marriage is allowed in the church but likely more strict with those devoted to the Light. If the Light is based off of faith, then having devotion to a spouse might take focus off the Light which in turn compromises the devout. So it may not be allowed early on. But that’s just a theory.
