@nocturne wigeon I whole heartily understand what your saying. With that said, customizing someone's art is actually technique used by many people. This is seen primarily in street art, or discount store art. However, if you scroll up in this thread alone you will see plenty of instance of people just customizing art. Make no difference if it's original work or fan art. Let's be fair though in artwork .. if one does use references I would hope they would always give credits as well to the OA

the difference is that the "customized" work comes from the official AFK art/asset supply, not from an independent creator. and yes, there is a difference between creating fan art and editing a premade drawing... there are other ethical points being glazed over as well here, but this thread isn't really the place to have that debate. i'm happy to explain over dms.* all i'm saying is that it's very taboo, especially in an online sphere, to make edits of any kind to an independent creator's work, fan art or not. it's just better to avoid that practice if you haven't gotten the artist's explicit consent
