So here's the quirk: if combat power is shown instead of level in adventure maps like Voyage of Wonders and Peaks of Time, starting battle does work. In campaign and towers, I can only get around the level 1000 wall if I start auto battle and quickly put it into background before the battle begins.

Misty Valley, for some reason, does not follow the enemy power display used in adventure maps.
