The goal is to get Ascended heroes. It requires 2 L+ and 2 E + fodders and 8 copies of the hero. This is, if I'm correct, 180 fodders. If you get an L hero, you have only 2/8 copies and you don't know when you'll have the 6 others. So you are potentially wasting 36 fodders. It doesn't seem much, but it will slow your progress
