If you select the snow arena, you will only fight against those who also selected the snow arena, and similarly, if you select the normal arena, you will only fight those who also selected the normal arena. It was intentionally designed that way.

Last 10 seconds you can lose your ranks to a lower bracket rewards but also lose your DUO rewards

Combined with the overall lower rewards due to extended competition

And a higher likelihood due to more snipers in the playing field
