How is the situation in AFK Arena? Are each servers in their own silos? Are there no comparisons across servers and guilds outside of their own groupings?

Most people you'll ask will tell you the same - they don't learn. The ones who'll tell you otherwise will be generous and/or non-critical, and even then will struggle to list more than a few occasions where they've "learned" (note: not learn how to improve the game, but how to improve their product, whose intention is not making a good game.)

Based on my own rough guesstimates, the following is mine for AFK Journey.

Too low. Low enough to where there isn't any meaningful competition at all in half the game (e.g. arena of heroes & the abyssal descent or whatever it was called). The active accounts are often no longer piloted by the owner, but someone managing it after they've quit and/or sold it.

Also, this is for AFK Companions, not Classic. #classic-chat is what you're looking for for classic

Though Companions isn't much better either.

Thanks for responding. I thought AFK Arena was better managed than AFK Journey as it lasted much longer. The situation in AFKJ isn't that great either for S-servers (servers launched in 27 March 2024 till 8 August 2024).

In companions, you get around 1k-ish players in a server (they come out once a day), out of which only a hundred-ish remain in any form of competitive state, probably two hundred at most otherwise (not including bots, I hope?)

And even then, people quit left and right, during the first few weeks.

Including among the people most ahead, as they burn out or find no interest in the game anymore.

To elaborate just a tidbit - there are two campaigns, one you can pair up with someone as a duo, sharing a number of your heroes. There is also a boss game mode, that is duo as well. However, to duo up, you need to be within 120 stages of each other. In a game, where people leave left and right, you very often find yourself without a duo and unable to get another one.

And some guild stuff, which again - as a guild leader of a top 3 guild, I have to kick out inactives every other day

And a lot of those heroes are ancient, which for example a top player that started 2-3 years ago wouldn't have most of. Cuz they were already irrelevant by then.

Anyone who has quitted for longer than 3-6 months would see Companions as a better alternative, even if they have spent some money, since the progress obtained then is meaningless after the inactivity period

in #classic-chat you'll see many players interact with one another if they're from the same region groupings

with regards to guilds, Arena is very guild-based for competitive modes. most comp guilds have their own discord servers. they do recruit from this server though

Based on server-specific rankings like arena of heroes, I can tell you that I've not really seen more than 20ish active people at most. Usually less. In old servers like mine anyway.

Devourer's Ascent is a recent thing, and I keep hearing from people sharing how they only have several to a couple dozen people ranked.

In AFK Journey, is a closed loop system. Once they hit a maximum of 4 or 5k registered players, the entire server goes into lockdown. No one can join these servers afterwards even if the server goes below 100 players.

This is much akin to MMOs nowadays. Each server has a fixed amount of player slots available and closes once the limit has been reached.

Although this type of system is much more dependent on server mergers to keep the playerbase active.

they decided on an ALLIED server mechanic. I did ask players in weaker server to ask them to contact customer service. Not a direct merger. See PDF below. It's like a soft form of merger to avoid affecting server based rewards.
