When you're in Kyoto if you're bored and want good conversation go to KRFT Tiki in Gion. It'll be pretty quiet probably. It's a fancy cocktail bar but daichi the owner is a solid dude and is happy to chat with foreigners. It's a plus if you like tiki drinks
