Generally I have no issue with mixed room situations in the end it always comes down to the layout, what the bathrooms situation is and how a hostel enforces their rules
Tbh most hostels in Japan look better than regular hotels but the third thing is a huge hit or miss apparently:/ my uni friends experience is that if anything happens (sexual harassment, theft, unsafe behavior,...) that Japanese hostels aren't keen on intervening or calling the police

*hostels in less urban areas were great though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Check with your hotel if they can keep your luggage before checkin, sometime you might even be able to checkin earlier if the room was empty the day before.

Otherwise you could use a locker at a train station if they can’t accommodate that request or you want to go somewhere else before :3

Manila gets shit on for being boring and I lowkey agree and the traffic doesn't help, but we have a great nightlife + we have a wonderful coffee/matcha scene. It's really the beaches and natural wonders that are the highlights though.

As someone who has walked the Kumano Kodo (Nakahechi Route) twice, it's not something you can do on a whim. There is very little accommodation along the route and it gets booked up well in advance
