If i book for 4 and only 3 pax could make it, do u think they will charge me for the missing person 😅😅😅
14400 is quite a big amount for me to cover hahahaha
When is cancellation needed by? 24hrs?
They will still serve the 4 I imagine .
I’ll fill 4th if you can’t find someone but I am definitely not third wheeling
HAHAHA okok! See if anyone else is interested
You'll have me to wheel together haha
Guess I really do have to cram Anki between now and take-off
lowk fucked but i respect the hustle
Me using Google translate on it and walking in

I believe there’s a location in azubadai hills too https://www.tablecheck.com/en/shops/yoroniku-tokyo/reserve
Free and instantly confirmed restaurant reservations
I’m trying to go to
some date between Nov 16-24
relatively new branch location

Tokyo Japanese Food tour at Japan's newly created spot in Azabudai Hills. This is the full tour experience of this location just nestled between Kamiyacho and Roppongi-Itchome station, Azabudai Hills feels like a little modern garden city all of its own. At the h...
he shows it off at 11:55
anyone interested in going
Why do they not accept debit cards
the slots for 14 november are full 😭
ah dang it, so it shows all the dates, but doesnt tell you if its full or not unless you select a time 😅
Do they not have a solo dining option?
probably not
RIP to solo diners like myself
i thikn imma just hit up this solo yakiniku resturant lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RztijCWdbnU
Eating at a popular Yakiniku restaurant in Japan that offers affordable value meat sets along with cheaper Wagyu
thought i wanna eat fancy 😭
Yeah there should be a bunch of those around
Yeah it’s nice to have a fancy meal every once in awhile
Although in my experience I often come out wondering if it was actually worth the price lol
I would try to get a table with you but unfortunately I won’t be in that area till 11/27
I might be interested on the 23-24th
but the yen is 153
Who can vouch for a good Japanese beef place?
Yea this is my train of thought
In tokyo
14k is a lot but if the food and experience is good, then the price might be worth it
Anyone been to shabu shabu lettuce?
Out of my tax bracket rn 🥲
has anyone been to the new uniqlo in shinjuku
What’s up yall pretty nervous of going to Japan alone in November 😭🙏
You’ll be fine dw
Have you travelled alone before?
Japan is good for entry level solo travel anyways
I'll be going in solo too, first time solo traveling, last year I went with friends. Traveling there isn't really that confusing as some youtubers make it out to be
this week im setting new world records for least productive workday ever achieved
I'ma be doing the same during my last week before my trip. A lot easier when you're remote
^ I’m the opposite, I’m desperately looking for stuff to do to pass the time faster
No i have never traveled alone before first time!
Japan was my first solo travel when I was 19, ur in good hands
I’ll be out in Japan from the 8-22 of November
you got your trip planned? I'll be in tokyo 10-20th
Almost everything you need in Tokyo will have English translations or a worker who speaks good enough English to help you
i exchanged for some yen cash at my bank today, and man the exchange rate really is very tasty right now lol
Very helpful people and safe. It’s a good first country to try by yourself
It’s a little up in the air definitely would love to hit Disney tokyo, Disney sea, so I’m definitely doing Tokyo for a week and then Osaka the next week
When I was buying my hotels, the exchange rate was terrible lol, I should've booked everything when it peaked at 160
Where did you guys book your hotel on?!
agoda
capital one travel, did a lot of price matching though
Sounds good still looking for some good rates
shiii i forgot about that
I think I avged around $60 a night overall
Oh wow that’s a good price! I need the link
its mostly just searching prices on google/expedia/agoda and then price matching with cap 1
if you're only just now booking for this november it's probably going to be significantly more expensive
Ah danm yea i had a hotel booked but heard air bnb was better
Ah okay I’ll book tonight, got my pocket WiFi! And will pick up the suica card at the air port
Japan is a safe country, but please still stay safe and don't put yourself in sketchy situations. If you are out drinking protect your drink
Will do! Even here in the states i protect my drink!
Question anyone who has been to Japan before any first tips once i land
i havent been yet but did you fill out visitjapanweb and get your qr code
i remember doing it the first time and not knowing how to use the booth so I went through the normal customs line anyways haha
fun times
I did fill the form out, but did not receive the barcode
- Do the visitjapanweb QR code form. If you don’t, you can fill it all out via paper there when you land… best to do it online
- You can withdraw cash from an ATM. Japan uses a lot of cash so it is good to have some before heading in town.
- If you need service / data, check to see how your phone handles international roaming or your options. If you plan to get an eSIM instead you can get one there at the airport.
- The country railway system is easy to pay for with an IC card. Basically a tap-to-pay card. You can buy a physical one there at the airport and it’s nice to have if you know how to navigate the subway. Better than waiting at a ticket booth every time. (If you have an iPhone you can add the digital one now on your phone even before you come… it’s OP)
- Fully enjoy and embrace the metro system… it is dope. It can be hard at first but once you understand the basics… it is fun (Color of rail, platform you need to be at, final destination, what stop you get off on, etc)
The Japan travel app is nice to navigate the railway system but google maps is too! I recommend predownloading every major city or area’s map that you’re going to on google maps in case you lose internet. - Google translate can help you communicate if they don’t speak your language there or if your Japanese is not proficient enough. Can also redownload the language pack for Japanese.
Other than that don’t stress the unknown. You’ll be fine take it in as a great learning experience and enjoy being somewhere foreign to you. Enjoy! ✌🏽
This is my first time here. That was all useful when I landed. Some vets can probably correct or better guide you.
Thank you i really appreciate that i will definitely use that advice as much as i can 🙏✌🏻
Cheers
you can also download offline japanese google translate
Did you fellas have to get a visa?!
dont think US citizens need a visa
For my country, no.
yeah it depends on where you're from
The us
Double check your requirements
double check and make sure you dont have any felony convictions that youve forgotten about
It depends where you are from but if you have an American passport you do not need a visa
That’s crazy! lol I’m super clean! 😂 but checked yall do not need a visa ✌🏻
Also do not commit any crimes in Japan
and if you have to, wait until the end of the trip
jinnytty?
I’ve seen some clips here and there she recently shot an rpg wtf lol
I’m truly excited for the culture and the food seriously can’t wait! 🙏
That was sick
I plan to eat so much I will need to be rolled onto the plane back
dont eat all the food, save some for the rest of us 😭
Yes! That makes two of us being rolled back into our flight lmao
Also carry your passport with you at all times because not doing so IS a crime and if you thought the American police can be bad…
Unless you want to risk detention for up to 21 days without a hearing
Free vacation
Free hotel, great views
If they hold me long enough, I can skip the Canadian winter
Can relate
Oh no thank you! I’ll pay for a better room 😂
Though the worst thing about the winter is how early it gets dark.. and that’s even worse in Japan
I remember wondering why their time system is set up the way it is, should be pushed an hour back
gotta wake up early for day activities 😅
But the elderly want their early walks in the morning sun ig
Yummy seasonal depression
i get that for summer
sadly cant really escape that by going to japan
Season depression in the summer?! How?
hot and bug
Damn 40+C
i really like going for long walks when its sleeting and seeing exactly zero other people the entire time
perfect time for that is when all the trains shut down at 12 lol
snow is awesome, people here only say it sucks because they try to drive in it and then slide their car down a hill
I would rather take the Canaidan summer and bugs than the Canadian winter
What is the name of the Japan travel app? Just need to make sure I have it haha
but its so nice when the whole world looks black and white
Snow is cool
Unfortunately where I’m from in Canada it gets very cold but DOESNT snow
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/japan-transit-planner/id299490481
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.jorudan.nrkj
Japan Transit Planner-Norikae Annai is a multilingual version of the navigation application "Norikae Annai", the most downloaded in Japan.
It will show you the route or how to transfer by railways or airplanes in Japan.
It can check the route, the fare, and the required time easily as long as you…
Or it snows and is immediately followed by rain and slush
Now have to shovel that every day
Question yall, are any of yall gonna be in Japan that has visited before from nov 11-22??!
also most of the inconvenience of snow only manifests if you drive
snow doesnt suck, driving does
take a look at the pinned spreadsheet
and also add yourself to it if you're so inclined
that one’s nice since it tells u platform number ^ for Shinkansen
OR (stick with me) you can do what I did last time and run around tokyo station with all your luggage like a mad man and by the time you reach your platform you see your train pulling away
or get there at departing time and having to get on the next one 😅
Good lord japan wakes up late.
Im usually up at 0545 / 0600 for work. Adjusted my sleep schedule accordingly to come to japan.
At least 3 hours before anything opens
There's a lot to do before like 10-11
Just depends if you want to go see temples, shrines, and a lot of museums open around 9 AM
what if i need a large black cold brew coffee
as long as theyll have cold brew and not just iced coffee im good
Anyone else getting more anxious the closer you get to the trip?
yea
Yea im nervous lol
Anxious that I won’t optimize every single day to the fullest
Nah
what if i try to speak japanese, fail, and then also forget how to speak english
Hoping to meet some solo travelers
Yeah I'm going to the science museum here in a bit. Was also my first night here so I got breakfast and am going to nap for a bit.
I completely blanked on japanese when I was checking in bc the staff spoke good english
Took me a sec to even remember hai
I am going to end up speaking Korean at some point to a Japanese person
I at least will have the pronunciation (albeit in an Irish accent) down pretty well
Happened to me many times in Europe. After weeks of navigating in another language I don't realize someone is speaking English for a couple of seconds
when i was in italy i had to constantly restrain my urge to mamma-mia people
Thank youuu
What are people thinking clothing wise. T-shirt seems fine during the day but how cold does it get at night?
probably mid 50s
Bars quite warm when you're indoors?
I'm bringing just a couple of sweaters
Gonna buy a light down jacket from Uniqlo there for the Mt. Fuji climb
I’m just gonna take one jacket then no need to pack heavy I’ve been hearing
I might bring just the two zip up hoodies
if all goes well, I might stuff my second suitcase with a HAUL on the way back
I’m planning on buying another suitcase out there for all the goodies I’m bringing back 😏😂
Ya, day will be fine with a t-shirt
Just like for bars and clubs, trying to think of what clothes for that
When are yall arriving?!
14th
10th
2nd
I heard fashion is huge over there! I’m taking some cargo pants comfy shoes!
8 more work days and freedom
Ahhh okay maybe we can plan something yall i land on the 8th leave from the air port the 7
I hear you! Work has been dragging lol
Staying 7 days near Tokyo and then going to Osaka ✌🏻
Lucky you!! ✌🏻
same i fly out on the 7th straight to osaka
Ahhh okay sounds good!
im stressin with work corrently, i got bunch of things i need to complete before i leave 😅
Transport gets warm real quick
But then you step off and the cool air feels so good
Dude i 100% feel that! I need to get my life together lmao
Just a couple more days
I'm stressed and ideally I'd complete some stuff but at same time, fuck it, not my issue they can't resource correctly
Lucky, I got like 2 weeks to go
are you software developer too ?
It is, i went to costco the other day and people were better dressed than even nights out back home 😂
Makes sense when you have some of the best brands and stores in the world for fashion (no, not uniqlo and muji)
disneyland is like a fashion show over there lol
Nice jeans/chinos, long sleeve top/button up or short sleeve and a light jacket, will sort you for most places
Clubbing is stricter on dresscode
But clubbing is also cringe so
Normal shirts are fine for basically anywhere, japan is more about layering than anything else
My adidas jacket is gonna carry hard then
I was planning on dressing to the nines for my flight in the hope of being given a complimentary upgrade to business class
Might have to save the best for Tokyo nightlife instead
Clubbing is cringe and a young man’s game
I am having a time adjusting to the temperature and humidity rn and it’s not even bad
I am young in heart
That counts right
lol still a cringe activity I feel
Not too interested in the clubbing lol i love food 😭😂
I wouldn't say I particularly enjoy clubbing (though Irish nightclubs are really crap) as I don't drink but I'd feel missing out if I didn't go once
same
i wanna visit the one in akihabara called mogra they play like otaku, eletronic, pop type music
they also stream on twitch
I don't really watch anime so don't know if that one suits me, and the only Japanese idol sort of music I can think of that I've listened to is Babymetal
But it does sound interesting
I may check them out on twitch
Go to live houses and jazz bars instead
Far better
Check out Habo's IG gigs in tokyo
Go to live houses in shimo, shibuya, and shinjuku
Its far more satisfying, far cheaper, and way more relaxing than clubbing
Live houses usually start around 5-7 PM and end by around 10-11 PM. Its a good way do an evening in Tokyo and get home before trains stop
Glad i found this chat! Yall know the places to hit 😂✌🏻
Id go there with you
It sounds based
Clubs are fun I like to dance
Done by 10 or 11? Thats really early
Only stress is dreading the 13.5 hour flight 🫠
It’s so you (and, more importantly, all the venue staff) don’t miss the last train home
What time is last train?
Depends on how far you have to go. But the trains stop at or just after midnight
I'm staying in Shinjuku anyway on my first stint and Toranonom on second stint so will be in walking distance of places
Midnight isn't bad. Assume there are night buses and taxis after if you stayed out late
Walking it is then. Shinjuku and Shibuya will be walkable when staying in Shinjuku and Roppongi is for Toranonom Hills
Any electronic clubs?! Or bars
Thank you brotha!!
7am haha
You can walk from Shimo to Shibuya or Shinjuku, it'll just take awhile.
and vice versa
I think from Shimo station to shibuya station its 45-50 minutes while Shinjuku is at least an hour
Doable, but not ideal.
A taxi for that distance will probably be like $30-50 USD I think
Id probably be 45 minutes max or id just get a taxi
but yeah live house shows usually are done around 10 to 10:30 PM at the latest
And I only really intend to be out late 2 or 3 nights anyway
Other nights would be earlier
and that's only the show starts later at like 7-8 PM
Otherwise they'll end even earlier
Maybe 4 nights, both Friday and Saturdays I'm in Tokyo
Though some shows do start at like 11 PM or 12 AM and go till 5 AM
After last train, the only form of transportation is taxi, which do get way more expensive since they are the only option
but you shouldn't miss last train unless you're out drinking or clubbing
I'll likely end up walking if I'm out in Shinjuku or Roppongi
oo waht kinda edm we talking?
As it would be sub 25 minutes to hotel
Oh, may I join for the jazz bar hop? I really want to hit some jazz bars when I'm in Tokyo
Do these live music places open every night or would most be Thursday, Friday and Saturday
You can find a show every night, just depends on what kind of music you want to listen to.
There are dozens of venues around shibuya, shinjuku, and shimokitazawa
Since the shows end relatively early, that means working people can still get home and rest before the next day's work
if your in Osaka I saw someone mention this recently
Bit disappointed that the only difference between green cars and regular cars on the Shinkansen is a bit more space. They don’t offer treats and coffee/tea like the Frecciarossa in Italy.
How else am I supposed to lord over the proles 🧐
It is worth it for the experience
If you like beef ofc
In terms of quality it was the best beef I had on the trip
You got this!!
Doing it alone too and winging it
You’ll be fine 🙂
Last working day before flight
The seats are nicer and more space at the parks
There is a food drink cart but you pay for it
If you want really fancy with food and drink
Then gran class
Which costs way more
If a normal car is 5000, gran class would be like 11,000
That’s nuts
I heard they still barely make a profit
Absolutely
yeah cuz i havent packed shit !! 😆
how common is it to split bills ?
With friends or on a date?
friends, whether its restaurant/izakaya/etc.
not sure if its a thing you'd have to ask for
betsu betsu = split bill
I didn’t do it just so it’s more convenient for them
if it’s like 2-3 people maybe it’s fine, but like 7 people I’d just put on one card
one cool trick I learned to get check from server is making an cross sign with your fingers
At uniqlo against seiyas better wishes and it makes me wish I didn't live in a swamp
So much cool stuff I can never wear because the lowest it gets at home is 30F, for like a week
check out GU, it’s sister store of Uniqlo and higher quality
Anyone in Japan from Nov 24- Dec 8? I have a couple concerts on 27,30, and 8th, but my group trip turned into a duo trip. Don’t want to leave my friend alone those three days, but I would also be interested in meeting going out with other folk.
"X" or "T"
?
GU is higher quality than Uniqlo?
Thought GU was cheaper, but similar quality.
oh maybe
Cheaper? That's all I needed to hear big dawg
"Uniqlo is high-quality, high-function, basic fashion, but GU is more mass and trendy fashion at an even lower price." In Japan, their stores are often side-by-side, and that's by design
I was gonna go GU the other day but found nice trousers in Uniqlo, so didn't go GU. Still want to tho.
These Uniqlo trousers are top tier, I'll need another 5 pairs to take back home.
Check this one out! #1294957773372657684
GU is like UniQlo but it falls apart even faster
not even dude i still got my clothes
Lol I've never had Uniqlo clothes fall apart, like at all.
Yeah uniqlo stuff is great
This place is bustling compared to the uniqlo I was just in
I guess because it's a hair closer to the station
where is this place at?
In GU now
Google Maps was unaware of its presence
I got a raincoat from Uniqlo for 5990.
Very similar one in GU for 4990, but slightly different design and fabric.
Has a hood too, but this one tucks into itself.
does gu stand for something
Idk
apparently not
if y'all can use taobao, I get fake uniqlo from there for cheap
Lol what's the quality like, and how cheap we talking.
I'm an AliEx kinda guy
GU BicCamera Shinjuku East
ジーユー ビックカメラ新宿東口店
If you're comparing to japan prices, like half the price
if singapore prices, 1/3 of it
quality wise, feels the same like uniqlo
but I only get the jackets and pants like the oversized wide hoodie and pants they just release since it's OOS here
gonna give that place a visit too
Oh wow
And Uniqlo is short for ‘unique clothing’
Will do!
she was in tokyo yesterday. dunno where today
Gotcha
Hope she gets into the inaka
Many restaurants I go to don’t allow it
It’s far easier to have one person pay and then everyone send them cash
Literally never
^
https://www.twitch.tv/jinnytty
she's in tokyo
Exploring Tokyo with @wolfsbanee | !vods for past streams | @Jinnytty !socials !vod
she's at teamlab borderless
someone snipe her
Someone tell her to go to team labs planets in a skirt
I’m kidding
just search for GU on google maps when you're there, they have a lot of outlets all over the country
just donate to her
hardest working streamer on twitch
she deserves all the donations and ad revenue. i can't even imagine traveling 10% as much as she does in a year. her legs must be beefy
taking chat literally around the world
I don’t really watch streamers
I just know of her in passing and because I’ve met her before
i heard you have to take your shoes off for teamlab borderless
theres like a water course
feet water 😬
i would not want to go towards the end of the day lol
That’s teamLab planets
ahh got confused, 0 - 2 for today
Good price as Uniqlo?
For planets
lol there’s so many chemicals in that water I would not be worried
Lots of chlorine
No different than a swimming pool
Just make sure if you’re a woman
Make sure you wear pants for planets
Unless you don’t mind everyone behind you having a view up your skirt
Don’t wear tight pants either
It was interesting watching people struggle in their skinny jeans
But the struggle adds to the hilarity
But seriously wear comfortable clothing
@undone scroll oh ness
I think this upcoming ryokan is going to be quite the interesting one
Need to go deep into the mountains
Heck yeah
forest treks are the business
the spiders amongst them tho, are not
Check out this spider from a job site last week
I only like spiders that I know of, that one I do not and would definitely cry if it came near me
immaculate
Currently at the Edo open air museum and the weather is super nice out here as well
Hello! I’m going to be in Japan 11/16-29th! first time traveling! Spending 3-4 days in Tokyo, 2 nights in mt. Fuji, 1 night in Hiroshima, 2 nights in Osaka and rest in Kyoto!
Sounds like a sweet ass trip
I’d be open to meeting up!
I will be in Tokyo from the 8-15, and 15-21 in Osaka/ Kyoto
Oh no :(( I’m in Tokyo 16-20th, Hiroshima 21-22 and then Osaka the 22nd!!
cheaper than uniqlo
Oh nice
I’ll be hitting Disney Tokyo and Disney sea
Oh damn, that's good to know
yea
i usually go to GU to pick up basics if i need them
but they also have a pretty decent selection of trendy clothes tbh. I almost never go into uniqlo in japan cause i know GU exists
Walked around for 4 hours and I'm already cooked
My feet are going to be in such tremendous, unending pain
the spikies?
just remembered me of a massage place in ueno
massaging them tired feet helps
it’s a feet water massage cafe
Unique cafe in Tokyo you need to visit. This massage place in Ueno is called 📍Mominoki House.
Price: ¥1100 for 45mins foot bath
¥2200 for 45mins foot bath, massage and complimentary drink
The foot bath feels like onsen for your feet ♨️
This place is close to Akihabara, Sensoji Temple Asakusa and Ueno so perfect stopover to recharge after 20k...
The best thing is footwear
My feet were bleeding in 550s
Switched and had no pain lol
Saw an ambulance with it's lights on go past.
Didn't seem to be in any rush.
550s are not walk in like that.
I find any type of low top like those kill my feet after a decent stretch of walking
@spring reef go grab the "currently in japan" role
also, ambulances are ... common in japan 😓
aren’t 550s worse than af1 lol in terms of comfort
I think I need to buy a massage gun
Found them the same both bad for crazy walking lol
I'm definitely bringing my hokas then
Though I love me some walking hehe
Been doing my 6k steps a day. Sometimes 12k on a good day
20k however...
I've not had af1s for like 10 years so I can't remember 🤣
i find my 550s more comfortable than af1s
Gortex Pegasus
Its wash day hence white socks.
I would never commit such a crime on any other occasion.
Yeah, I've been doing a minimum of 20k for the last 5 days
Very easy to do
You won't realise it until your legs and feet start hurting after a couple days
I walked through sketchers and adidias and saw some pairs I like but didn't want to engage the staff so I bounced
Might have to go back because these vans are not gonna work for 2 weeks of this
I ran 5km last yr so I think I can smash it hehe
yea ... get a good pair of shoes and you'll be good to do multiple days of walking
consider Hoka, Salomon, or On running as well
Onsen is the saviour of feet. Also sauna + cold water bath. Besides proper shoes and clean socks. Zero problems doing minimum 15k steps daily.
Friendly tip if you are prone to tightness like me:
- WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES. seriously. Ultraboosts are my saviors here.
- do QL stretches every morning + night ( PLUS calf stretches and hamstring work)
- prep your quads before u go on a 20+ day with iso squat holds
- if you feel yourself getting sore. Stop walking and go stretch out + take a bath in the evening
Sincerely; someone averaging 25k a day
For the past month 💀
Bless you man. I'll religiously use this
Yup. Don’t end up injured
I did 💀 but I have very good medical insurance so got to see 4 physios in like 6 days to stop it in time
I recommend getting fitted for custom insoles as well
thanks! confirm gonna give it a visit! we don't have GU here and uniqlo isnt cheap
speaking of shoes, comfort or style
wanna use yeezy 700 v1 since it's ultraboost but not sure if it's a many step shoes
might just use skechers
yeah they are, like ultra thicc ultra boost
not UB but B
mhmmmm
i have one pair of NBs for long walking days, and a pair of old dunk lows for them shibuya/harajuku shopping days
but that midnight konbini sounds nice
i have a 3rd pair of asics but those are for hiking

your asics
hmm, I think i'll bring one shoe and get slippers from dondon if need one
I brought Ultraboosts and normal trainers. Normal trainers got ditched FAST
Ultraboost is mad comfy
It’s also about impact support
In fact that’s more crucial
When you’re climbing stairs a lot
The foam helps
I got two of em but both broke after 2 years
Somehow the sole for mije split into two
I think the early ones had better quality though
Got mine like in 2019, UB1-2 had nicer designs too
Okay its been 4 years and lots of running with it
But yes, mad comfy
I'm surprised that my clothes + half the rest of my stuff barely weighs 6kg bag included kek
26kg remaining
ON/Hoka best for travel
I'll get one for future trips
Don’t do what i did and buy jackets in your first week
And increase the weight by 10kg
Yeah that too
Thinking of not bringing my beard trimmer but meh
I don't want to look like a hobo after 2/3 weeks
If youre booked at hotels, most offer these supplies
Razors I figured there would be some of my hotels providing them
But it's light and disposable so I dont mind bringing mine, the trimmer is the issue I guess
Do you have Clifton 9s? I’m contemplating buying a pair while I’m here as they’re cheaper than back home
Just had my first lime chuhai
And the soles of my UBs are starting to wear down
you need to try a gingerale highball next
Had a whiskey highball the other day, wasn't the biggest fan
😭
Will definitely try that
Nah I think i just had a bad one/need to drink a few to acquire the taste.
I like whiskey
Yeah there’s some that just taste watered down
Ive got ON Cloud 5s
Bought a pair here in Japan
Very comfy
partner has 2 pairs of ancapas
Ye cause these shoes are starting to play up on my calves which means gotta get a new pair 💀
Clifton 9 or bondi 8 are good for walking and standing
Ok perfect time to run back to the store
I was using hiking shoes before
Off to https://goo.gl/maps/Edt3Wo1dXREvHKq5A for a frozen mango beer
The hoka were like half the weight
Should have got them when I saw them
Go to Nemo Asakusa, theyll sort you any drink you want to try and itll be the best you have had/will have. Their Gin Sours are godly
Lol you've literally recc'd this like 8 times (not that I'm complaining), but it's on my list haha
Sisyphus
Sisyphus with delicious cocktails
I went here in Yonago
Wings were crazy good.
Shrimp tempura
10 wings
1 bowl of rice
1 yakitori skewer
4 chuhais
¥4100
Damn it’s digging into my arch
They’re super comfy but my arch is just gonna get fucked by them lol
Hello guys, can you recommend some places to eat in Yokohama China Town? ☺️ I heard about Sanmamem and Lekei ramen, dumplings but don't know exactly which restaurants are the best 🙂
Bought some Clifton 9s last week and liking them so far
Got some UB 5s on the way too
Who's out in shinjuku right now?
#1224130537921319074
Sorry sorry
how was this
Check my list! I have many options
One more day, and im on my way !!!
I'm a 33yo music producer, beekeeper, permaculturist, scuba diver, and programmer -- in Tokyo from Nov 2-6, hiking the Kumano Kodo Nov 7-13, scuba diving afterwards in Okinowa. Looking to hang with like minded people when I get to Tokyo. Maybe make some LoFi or Ambient or House together. Or just hunt for vintage treasures. Hit me up :)
Thank you!
Oh I was telling them to go, ive been to that izakaya like, 10 times? Its great
Packing 7 kilo is challenging
Question yall do you guys recommend the SIM card or the pocket WiFi?!
eSim
Depends on how you plan to use your data. In most cases esim is fine
I’m landing in Tokyo, should i buy the sim before arriving or at the airport?!
Before if you want to save time
if u go with ubigi, don't buy too early cuz the plan duration (e.g. 30 days) starts the moment u purchase it
Pretty much most solutions for Japan that people use are data only. Sans roaming
Ye I really wanted to like them but they dug into my left arch 😂 not my right tho …and my left is the injured side so I wonder if that had something to do with it
U have e sim capabilities ?
So much easier
has anyone used compression socks to help with their feet pain during trips?
I chose pocketwifi 10gb Daily for the online addicted
No i don’t unfortunately i have the iPhone 15
You can get an eSIM on iPhone 15
Okay! Could yall send me a trustful link to buy the esim ahead of time please 🙏
Are shoes generally cheaper in Japan compared to the US?
🙋i need them for long flights
I'm talking more for like wearing compression socks while walking around in Japan (for lazy ppl like me who don't walk much normally lol)
Airalo or ubigi will work fine for esim
Oh ok, sorry idk then
Thank you i appreciate you 🙏
Actually just went for a run with my Clifton's then and can confirm they're great 👍🏻
theres discounts in #1092103190671012000
Thank you to all of you for the helpful tips ✌🏻
If I buy for example the ubigi pack today, can i make it start from a specific date?
or when i buy it, it starts?
you can buy x amount of GB, and since you arent there yet you arent using it up yet
thats what i did
Starts when you buy it
Okay cool, i asked a question in the esim chat, the esim comes with a new number right?! So my fam will need that number to contact me
No number
U have an iPhone, u can use iMessage FaceTime and wifi calling no problem
Okay cool! I’ll purchase the day before ✌🏻🙏
If airalo, it’s activated when you use it in japan
Does it matter which brand you go with?! Or which one do you recommend the most?!
I think majority recommends ubigi
U ig
Ubigi goat
Fosho! Gonna download the app rn
For me, I'm gonna make the unlimited plan of 1 month of Ubigi with the 50% discount... it will cost around 37€
Does airalo come up any number? When I used it in Korea I got one but it was useless for most things (couldn't get text verification for restaurants etc) but it did give me a number
No most eSIMs are data only, no call or text
I got the tmobile international database with 15gb for 30 days...is esim still reccomended ? Perhaps if I run out of data on my normal network?
Just keep ur data under check, and if u see that u are going low just purchase extra GBs on an esim
If I walk into a random izakaya what are the chances I can connect and have a conversation with someone (in english) with minimal Japanese? If I politely comment on something and say in Japanese "I don't know Japanese well, do you know english" is that good icebreaker?
Are language bars still a thing?
This is actually on our list for the middle of the trip 😅
Eigo ga hanasemasu ka
Gambatte
Learn Japanese
Big mac
tennai de meshi agarimasu ka?
Yukkuri itte kudasai

Most impt phrase I learn from genki
This one phrase messed me up so bad because I didn’t know they would speak keigo at McDonald’s
I have no idea what is this
I forgot the word for take out
Agaru
Keigo form of taberu
Oh!
Completely different word for eat 😵💫
Basically what I did lol
Fukuro wa goriyou desuka?
I was confused for a while and eventually just said “koko de… tabemasu?”
Hei onigaishemasu
You managed to work it out
It all else fails. Watashi wa sukoshi Nihongo hanashemasu. And then get out Google translate
Impt phrases to learn
Yeah
Vocab still limited
Ocha to mizu kudasai
One time this lady kept asking me "is that all" and I didn't know the vocab
So now I started saying "sore ga subetedesu"
Which ends the order
Yeah like, "is that everything?"
My go to was just replying “daijobu desu” to every question which worked most of the time
Thanks
Luckily now I’m like N3 level so I expect much less struggle
With the classic hand signs
How was N3?
Haven’t taken the test, just estimating my level based on what I’ve studied already
Ordering food is kinda basic stuff tbh. I wish I could have a full blown conversation with a Japanese person. 😔
Ah, it’s coming up in december right?
Yeah
Ganbatte to them
Same
But vocab is limited
I can maybe say age and where I’m from, and where I work
I got Nihongo jouzod in a club one time 😂
i will never forget the time i went to a card store and the clerk gave me a card for free and i basically called him an idiot
oh man i wake up to cold sweats
Yooo is that an old man saying jt
thinking abt that
If that happens, replying with sonna kotto naidesu is okay right?
Daijoubu daijoubu
Young guy clubbing lol
Me too..
It sucks cause you want to have a chat with them but it's awkward beyond the basics
Oh, I thought it was like a japanese lesson club or something
And using Google translate to have a convo sucks 😔
I haven't found the motivation to learn basic sentences yet, sadge
My anime phase was like 15 years ago
Tbh I think it’s part and parcel of learning the language
or the rare "tenki wa ii ne"
Awkward for the first few months or years and once you reach maybe N3 /N2? The sense of accomplishment hits
I agree. Although I guess it takes a lifetime to understand language
I gotta write wkl this new vocab somewhere
There are words in English I don't even understand but I guess you don't need to know them all
Ahh tenki is weather
Weather’s good isn’t it
i mean yeah its impossible to ever learn everything about anything
yeah I’ve been studying some conversational phrases
Reply with tenki wa ii na
one time i decided to check if the word occlupanid had ever been written in katakana. it has, one time ever
Mirror if you dont undersnd
Atsui, by the looks of it
Whip out the good ol’ jisho

i know a lot of (hopefully) useless murder related vocab thanks to watching a lot of detective conan
getting my food and immediately hitting the server with "これは毒ですか" (dont do this)
saikin genki? - what u been up to recently?
google translate is clutch when you can use it
at the moment, though sometimes I question it from the grammar being different from what I learned
DeepL is best
when i tried deepl it really liked randomly repeating stuff
googl translate has also gotten some really weird bugs lately, probably from adding in AI stuff in ways they maybe shouldnt
ive found like 4 or 5 japanese phrases that spit out "replying to @sarah_mcdonald" if you put them in which is baffling
also this one
lmao
some very specific kanji
Anyone traveling Hiroshima - Okayama - Kobe - Nara - Osaka from 19-27 Nov?
I'll prob go to Hiroshima on nov 19 (or 20-21)
me but in early nov
7 days.
Anyone in Kyoto the 17 or 18 that is interested in hiking fushimi inari?
same, i'm in Hiroshima 19-20
That would be fun plan on visiting Osaka, Kyoto around that time! Really would like to hit universal for sure
I’m in Tokyo from the 8-16 i believe or 15
Probably going to grab an early train and then go to miyajima island
then the peace museum and other stuff in the afternoon
i was gonna do this
hiroshima / miyajima Island
- atomic bomb dome
- hiroshima peace museum /peace memorial park
- Hiroshima castle (maybe?)
- ferry ride to Miyajima (30mins)
- Pet the deers
- Itsukishima ninja shrine (floating torii gate)
- Senjokou halls + 5 story padora
- Daisha in temple
- Momiji park walk
- Omotesando shopping
- ferry ride to Hiroshima (30 mins)
Okonomiura - eat Hiroshima style okonomiyaki ( Okonomi Mira suiguin / Okonomiyaki nagata-ya )
Was nice to get there at low tide. Can basically walk right up to the torii gate.
I'm in osaka from nov 18 to 23, but 3 of these days will be day trips to himeji, hiroshima and koyasan
is it better to go low tide?
I originally planned to do a day trip to hiroshima from osaka (there between 4-7 ) but wasn't sure if there was enough there to warrant the trip
All I know is miyajima, which seemed like a place that's best at sunrise, and the atomic dome
yea im doing trip from osaka too only like 1h train ride
I wouldn't say it's better per se, but it allows for some more creative photos if you're looking to do that sort of thing.
my only planned thing atm is miyajima island, I'll probably steal parts of your itinerary kek
There will be a lot of people going right up to it though, so ymmv
checking out the historic part of hiroshima probably will only take like 2 hours ?
i think i can get to miyajima by like 2pm
I'll try to get there by 8:30 am
From the station it's a 30min train ride to the ferry place
I haven't decided yet if I'll add Katsuo-ji/minoh falls as a half-day trip from Osaka, that'd leave me with 1 day and half in Osaka proper
Lets gooo
I'm hoping for a luggage reunion tomorrow 🥲
so jelly, still 2 weeks for me 🥲
last workday tomorrow
im doing minoh falls and the durama temple
, i didnt do it my first trip
i think the main things in osaka is:
- osaka castle, dotonburi, shinsaibashi, america-mura, shinsekai, denden town, kuromon market, usj, teamlab botanical, umeda sky, expo 70 park, minoh falls, katsuoji temple
Yes yes about to start slaving at work - enjoy your trip
Thank you! Ganbatte it’ll be worth the wait
Also anyone else nervous when they are on their first solo trip? 😂
Safe travels! ✌🏻🙏 I’ll be out there next week but yea I’m nervous also 😂😂
I'm not but I'm far from being a reference
Might be different when the language barrier hits tho
me tbh. both excited and terrified at the same time lol
I wish I could be nervous/stressed about it tho
its like first day of school feels lol
I guess I’m not alone
I was nervous the first day or two.
well the reason why im going solo traveling for the first time is that
im just tired of waiting for my schedule to line up with others
it never happens
so i take action myself
What made you not nervous? Was it like settling in to the environment
Same here
Can’t keep missing travelling and seeing the world amirite
@cyan spear @mild wagon @idle roost y’all got this
It’s gonna be hella fun
I think once I started speaking a little Japanese, and I mean just enough to buy something at a konbini or order food. I was nervous to interrupt the bartender and ask for a drink in Japanese, but they understood what I meant once I did.
Language barrier is rlly the only thing that makes me nervous
If I'd just picked another city in the US for my first solo trip I'd be big chilling rn
i have a little bit of the standard nervousness, but i also have bonus extra nervousness because im entering a tournament at an arcade and they all expect me to do really well lol
来ました!!!
日本へようこそ 🙌
Mmm I need to start packing soon
Looks like it actually is going to get colder soon after I arrive
And actually yes I am
Not going to specify where or which but nearby yes 👍
Oh no worries! Maybe have a meet up grab some food first timer 😂
If you’re in the area on November 4th there’s a festival happening
I've solo traveled a good bit so not nervous on that but this will be the longest one and probably the one with the largest language barrier (Korea wasn't great for that but I speak and read more Korean than I do with Japanese)
I'm not in a hostel but I'm staying in ueno!!
I need to start packing too LOL
Just been hard at work and saw a concert last night.
Will do some last minute shopping today or tomorrow
is there anything nonobvious i should pack
A softer pillow lmfao
I should've taken the pillow from the plane
Phone wallet socks jocks and passport, done
This guy packs
Something to help pass time so you can give your feet a break. Book to read. Headphones to listen to music while you nap in the park.
Yeep
Does anyone know where that thrift store is at that sells designer??!
A mattress topper
Every “thrift” store in Tokyo nowadays
Extra TV
Kindal
kindal harajuku second hand store
03-6438-1122
Thank yall! ✌🏻
How was the flight over to Japan yall, pretty crazy first flight ever is to Japan lmao
Well it really depends on where you’re flying from and if you have a connection
Depends how long the flight is, and what seats you got
Do everything you can to stay comfortable. If you get sore sitting down for awhile take a couple all day aleve before you hop on the plane. I always eat before flying too. Drink plenty of water
If it's 10+ hours in economy it's kinda rough 😭
I have delta+
That's not bad then on a 12h flight with their premium seats
Yea first class was out of the budget lol
I did the same flight. At about 6 hours you're going to go "fuckvi still have 6 hours left"
You need to sleep
I'm flying out of Toronto, so it's a 16 hours with a connection, so I had to get premium seats lol
Take note of the time in Japan while u fly and knock urself out with meds to align
Yea I’m gonna do my best to sleep! Probably take some cbd gummies right before the flight 😭
Y not direct
It's a 2 hour difference with direct, and a bit more expensive at the time
Wdym by ac
Air Canada
Oh I’m dumb lmao
Eh delta business class isnt amazing so don’t worry about it
Premium economy is fine for US airlines
Yea i got delta plus just extra leg room
You’ll be fine!
I did not sleep a wink on my 13 hour flight
It felt like it just kept going on forever
The in-flight entertainment really came in clutch
No rawdogging international flights.
Scooby doo movie is fire lmao
alright for 1000 yen I thought I was getting fleeced but this thing is bigger than I thought lol
Omg that looks delicious 🤤
ooh nice
im gonna rawdog the entire trip. going to japan and not even bringing my phone
That’s wild bro 😂😂
(very bad idea)
what happened to it :(
low key already tempted to upgrade (either the lens or the camera)
I’m bringing an x100v
bought it for the trip
ooh nice
Sold it :((
sorry, couldn't resist 😅
Disposables are 1800 yen here
I feel like that’s pretty cheap no?
Was only 1000 to develop as well
any thoughts on if i should book my flight from hiroshima to tokyo now or wait for a price drop? it's 40 for the nighttime one but my flight is next morning and would prefer to be at tokyo for the day to shop etc and for insurance
When is the flight?
23
And it’s 40$ rn?
it's like 80 vs 40 for morning vs night
which 40 is not a lot
BUT RELATIVELY SPEAKING
it's 100% inc
Probably won’t change
cri ok
probably hmm 🤔 I'll admit I did feel some fomo seeing my photographer friend take awesome photos with his a7cii
I - dunno how I feel about kindal . Some decent deals to be sure, but a lot of clothing there has marks and stuff (or snagging fabric etc.) so it’s not exactly great buying there … even by thrifting standards
(Talking about the one in Osaka)
Like sure it’s ‘20% off’ but 20% off with a mark you can’t get out is not worth it
Haha
60% off I’d do it
I’ve had absolutely 0 luck thrifting in Tokyo
It’s a rip
Toronto was cheaper somehow
Yo question. How do you write the address on the VisitJapan thingy? I'm just filling it up atm 💀
Send a pic
It’s super easy usually
Unsurprising . The shops aren’t dumb and tourists flock for clothing ‘in Japan’
Makes sense
Just figuring out which parts to add or remove cos it won't all fit
Is that a conference center?
8 Ichigaya Hachiman-cho
Thank you so much!
Does it ask for building name?
Yeah the hotel name. I put that in!
TKP Ichigaya Building 1F
They aren’t gonna come after u if it’s not exact, as long as it fits and it’s clear
Does
TKP Ichigaya Building 1F, 8 Ichigaya Hachiman-cho
Fit ?
Also another question. I'm assuming this part of the form means my flight headed to Japan.
I could try that!
Ye it’s the flight you came in on
Yes your flight that enters Japan, if you have a layover flight first or something don’t put thay, it would be the flight that actually goes to Japan
Sweeet. Thank you for going through this, guys. Brain is a little rattled but we will make it!
Think I'm just overexcited haha
Been there!
From what I've seen I think u have to travel outside of Tokyo a bit, or on the outerskirts
Might also depend on what you're trying to thrift? Do u have any specific brands in mind? Or just thrift stores in general ?
Outskirts no luck
Just thrifting in general, was specifically looking for a soccer jersey or just any graphic tees
8000 yen for a beat graphic shirt that would be 5$ in Canada I just couldn’t do it
That might be it :/ I've seen some pricey ones which I've assumed have gone up in price from tourism?
Did find some decent stores in koenji though
I am still in aus 🥲
Strayaaaa.
My main aim is to find some stores that sell vintage kapital
And chrome hearts for some friends (not for me cause I don't got money like that 😂)
Looking forward to seeing what I might be able to find in Shimokita
Even if that's mostly a Bocchi pilgrimage lmao
Just another annoying Aussie in japan 😔✊️
Many many good chrome heart shops
Prob best place in the world for second hand hearts
I try not to be annoying LOL
Oh defonitely
I didn’t find shut
Shit
Even vivienne westwood red label is there too
Left with crane game prizes
Even if I don't, that's okay!! Still keen to visit it!
Of course!
Same, though I mainly look for acronym
Lmk if u do end up on stumbling something decent
I might try finding some pieces from needles but it depends on the bank account 🥲
Gonna go from a broke uni student to a broke uni grad in 1 week 🙃
Feels
Nice camera I’m taking my Nikon 7500
Vintage kapital and chrome hearts in tokyo? Good luck brother hahahahaha
That shits been picked clean by USD fashion influencers
Youll be getting the dregs or overpriced af
Outside as in, not tokyo or osaka basically
Thrifting elsewhere is still great but the major kanto and kansai cities have been sucked dry
Kyushu thrifting / 2nd hand is 👌
Shimo sucks for thrifting now, good for denim
Just don’t take a picture of shelter sign unless you’re going to a show there
Fuck that camera is goated
That's what I'm worried abt 🥲 chrome hearts is just for my friend, but he knows what he's going to be getting himself into
Even did this mornings fitpic on it
