Whoever was worried, do two things

1. call your health insurance in the USA (for us US folks) and ask them if hospital charges are covered overseas and what the process is. For me it’s covered I just need to get a copy of the bill and paperwork and the health insurance will help manage it

2. if you booked stuff (flights and hotel etc) with your credit cards, take a look at what insurance or coverage they offer for delays and such. I booked flights with Amex and they have tons of support on delays > 6 hrs, flight cancellation, lost luggage’s etc

Kore o onegashimasu - Please give me this. This is useful if you want to point to something on the menu and you're wanting the waiter to give you that

Another is

O susume wa? - What do you recommend? If you are really not sure what to eat, then ask the waiter for their opinion, 95% of the time they'll give you the most popular item because that's their best item and what their shop is most well known for. Therefore its probably quite good.

Another is

daijobu desu - Its okay. Very versatile phrase.

I’ve been here for about 3 days and pretty much anyone I’ve interacted with so far has had a basic enough level of English to get by. I’ve learnt about 5-10 phrases in Japanese but tbh they see you and start speaking English before you even get a chance. I’m solo travelling too so was a bit nervous but I’ve got by okay! I don’t think it’s as bad as all the warnings I saw on Reddit about how brutal it is in August and September but you will sweat a bit if walking outside for more than 10 minutes. Everywhere is so air conditioned though you can always run into a shop to cool down! If you’re used to high humidity you’ll be fine

Its less about the money and that maid cafes are very cringey experiences, especially for solo men and even more so for groups of men

The main selling point of maid cafes is the personality and interaction of the girl

Which will vary based on what kind of cafe you go to, but your standard maid cafe will have the moe moe personality

However a lot of the interaction and personality goes out of the window if you don't understand Japanese

and foreigners pose another major problem as well

If a maid is interacting with a Japanese person, they are roughly on the same page when it comes to cultural mannerisms and can of course interact with each other verbally
