Yeah, I got really lucky last time I went. It was before a discord got setup or anything but someone else on the subreddit spotted that loads of us were posting itineraries for the start of September and DMd us all - ended up being that the karaoke night was my first night in Tokyo. Spent a few days hanging out with the bigger group, and one of the guys had a really similar itinerary to me, including the same Ghibli museum tickets, so we hung out quite a bit. Was really awesome, made for a totally different trip!

The name of the bar is Nemo @half pollen its a very old cocktail whisky bar, but despite it being old and nice, there is no prerequisite for attending, infact they love newbies/first timers

There's no menu, the bartender hangs around you most of your time there unless its really busy

they ask you questions about drink preferences etc (unless you know exactly what you want) and make something specific to you

Hey guys I’m going to Japan and 2 weeks and have a currency exchange question, I’m coming from US and was wondering whether I should exchange in US before going or doing it in Japan. I’ve searched online and there are so many answers saying do it at a bank branch in my home country, but then also a lot of posts saying to wait till I’m in Japan and that the 7/11 or interbank options good.

I've personally been buying yen every couple months while the exchange rate is low. I imagine you'll be fine getting money from a 7/11 if your debit card has no foreign transaction fees.

From what I can tell the banks in the US are posting pretty bad rates, around 147-150, while some of the Japan exchanges offer as good as 154. Spot is 157.68.

I am not sure who facilitates the exchange rate if you use foreign debit card in Japan at an atm.

My current plan is to just bring USD to Japan and go to an exchange location with the best rates when I arrive

There is also something called “wise”, which has closer to spot exchange with low fees, but it takes 2-3 weeks to take delivery of the debit card needed for cash withdraws
