To each and their own. I would prefer the seat to not be cold
If you want a DIY. Just take a water bottle and spray it on your ass
Haha very true 😅
lol yeah they do
im tryna upgrade my bidet now... plotting 😉
Haha I neeeed
Haha nice
You can get portable plastic bum squirters
Haha that's amazing
Looks like something you'd find at a dentist's office, but I'll take it 😂
I’ve seen them at donki
Ayo good idea on a gift
Pair it with an enema and that’s the cleanest butt ever
Remove your innards too. Very clean
do have my appendix removed. That count?
If the Egyptians can do better, so can you!
Aim high
You right. Gomenimsosorry
I’m in Osaka tonight - and last night. This place is wild
Japan has somehow managed to have both the best public toilets I've ever been to and by far the worst
Truly a land of contrast
how so
he means squat holes
Specifically the ones opposite the bridge in Dotenbori
sometimes you have them both in the same washroom
i’ll never to go to a dotombori public restroom
Just drop it straight into the canal
We literally had a whole discussion about this last night in weird stories
So I agree
I actually don't mind the squat toilets but it isn't my first choice. If I have to go, I have to go
What is this? A Colonel Sanders statue??
In Colonel news
https://fxtwitter.com/gearoidreidy/status/1769915955021582598
The hike up fushimi inari is no joke got to the top and walked around Kyoto a few more hours and now I’m exhausted
That was me yesterday
But I rested after that and then wandered gion and Higashiyama in the evening. Today my legs felt it lol
It was crazy exhausting glad I got there when I did though this morning and explored because it was packed when I came down the mountain
Yeah I went early yesterday morning too
I came back to Osaka got here maybe 30 minutes to an hour ago after like 6-7 hours in Kyoto plan to go back tomorrow but might pivot that and stay in Osaka and do another Kyoto day Thursday depending how I feel and how the weather looks in the morning last I saw was rain tomorrow so
Oh I spent the night in Kyoto last night, props to you for doing it as a day trip
I'm on train back to Osaka now
The day trips easier then moving luggage for me and I can get up at 5-6 and beat most of the crowds
@reef burrow & anyone else - I’m gonna climb at BPump Akihabara tonight if you wanna join
You have dinner plans tonight or just trying to stay near your place? @sacred valley wants to meet up and grab some dinner?
Surprised no museum stepped in to preserve
They probably just wanted it gone because it was ugly and dirty
Don’t leave early but same too tired to be out late just some dinner more then anything
hike killed ya didn’t it i understand
It for sure did my legs are screaming at me while laying down currently lol 😂
Just finished eating a big lunch at 4, so if I eat dinner it would be light and much later haha. But when y'all pick a place and time let me know in case I'm hungry and less tired by then
Just woke from a food coma, just in time for my stop on the train lol
i would leave at 6 or 7 and in terms of place i have no idea at all
what are we feelin
You guys want to try anything you haven’t had yet? I’m cool with anything honestly not opposed to maybe tonkatsu or gyukatsu etc right now
i’ve had everything at this point
I’ve landed!!
I’ve got this place marked can’t remember why probably the size of it https://maps.app.goo.gl/cPcvp6UAHtzefnc97?g_st=ic
Glad you had a great time on my improv tour and photography session. 😃
Also truly not opposed to getting yakiniku again
😂
i will never truly be opposed to that either
Had a blast my friend hope we can meet up again once more before you leave!
Lmao want to just do that again? And if @tight flax wants to join with it he can
Anyone free tomorrow night to do something
down
i don’t remember where the place is at tho
ye im free now got my rare card and looking for beer and snacks or coffee with sweets.
this time we can order for all of us so we can split the bill evenly
unless you wanna do the whole venmo thing again
Whatever works for me honestly do you rember the exact place I don’t even remember the name lol
or beer pong at akihabara there s a bar for that
Tonight is a maybe, ive been up almost 24 hours and not at my hotel yet. But down to do a group outing tomorrow night
my legs are killing me i hit the gym today in shibuya i can handle another 3 hours after that im toast.
what time you staying there til?
Go out I promise it’s the best thing you can do at least go out to stay up another like 4-5 hours
Eating here in Shinjuku if anyone is down
its alright if it doesnt work out ill hit the nearest beer bar
I’m staying in shinjuku, down to get food
something like yakiniku douraku
where at?
What gym was that? Can you get day passes?
yup, we can wait a lil bit to hear from @tight flax
If anyone else wants to join feel free to let us know if you want to
@tawny sigil @sacred valley I probably won't be hungry for a few more hours, so go ahead without me
Yep that's the spot
gyms expensive in jp its fun but 4,6k yen the hour
Looks better than the Tipness I've been going to in Shinjuku
its 8k the month in general
Gaijin tax?
Are you from Spain?
If I’m at my hotel by then and ready then yes
Actually this place is 1000 yen per bowl. Not bad
no
Only in Spain would lunch be at 5 or 6pm 😂
I'm down
And then dinner at midnight
im tired my man i dont need lunch i need drinks. I got the stam for maybe 3 more hours then im out.
I ate lunch from 330 to 4 today, so I'm guilty as well
Haha word
i can wait however and tag along.
@sacred valley just let me know what time you wanna get there
But sounds good don’t blame you I’ve not ate much here because I’m so full from my first meals of the day
Looks fun - I just left the gym: made sure my hotel had one
I'm down. Just gonna enjoy the onsen before I head over
I’d be down to meet for dinner. Maybe 730 or 8?
Yeah that works for me if @sacred valley is good with it
Getting food then going, probably gonna stay for 2-3 hrs at least
@flint nacelle @distant pollen @midnight hull ok this is a group so far. If someone knows a place in Shinjuku let us know when and where to meet. @reef burrow too
Make it good, it’ll be my first meal in Japan and I’m starving
I'll be joinin as well
Time check tabelog real quick
i’ll have to call quits on the dinner something came up with my parents
@tawny sigil
sorry mate
All good hope all is ok
well i might be able to resolve this ill get back to you in a bit
Sounds good @distant pollen said 7:30 to 8 so if you get it all figured out let me know
Whoa, I thought some of you were in shinjuku and the place you linked is in Osaka
I’m in Osaka
@mortal tundra

Miscommunication it seems
Happens! It doesn’t mean we aren’t still friends 🫶😄
It gets dark here so quick
Friendship terminated for being in Osaka
😂
From the south?
@distant pollen can you make it to shinjuku in 20mins ?
For Shinjuku peeps
https://maps.app.goo.gl/AAgrw8SDjKxu4wNQ8
I can get a reservation
Hear that. It's best if both worlds IMO weather wise
@dusk garden you also joinin?
I’m in Osaka think you got added to the wrong group there lol
Probably not. Already eating in a sec at vejin
Big food hall
Good place to come if a groups is indecisive. Blast food hall
Yes
Sweet!
Hey guys, I'm on the shinkansen to Osaka right now. Would be down to grab some dinner around Dotonbori or something, but will probably arrive and be checked in to my hostel around 8 pm.
I was the one who linked the yakiniku place haha so we can plan to meet at 7:30 -8
We were going to a yakiniku place around the area around 7:30-8
Down for lunch too
Shinjuku people I’ll let you know when I’ve made it to my hotel, it’s nearby the place you linked
Sounds good, will keep you updated where I am.
Also down for the food hall too whatever is easier
So around 19:00 at the yakiniku?
You mean omoide or kabukicho tower?
idk honestly i meant until 19:00 please be ready and decide
im still at ueno
Ima do some shopping then
its 20-30mins till there
Whatever Akane suggested. Unsure where it is
what time ?
At minimum an hour from now, traffic is bad and I’m on a bus to shinjuku station
But don’t let me hold you guys up I can always join later
ok 19:30 at Shinjuku. We ll pinpoint meet up point later
Yeah works for me @clear bobcat do you think you are checking in at 8 would it be quick to get there we can wait a bit for you if needed also
@distant pollen
lol imma push lion bar then since yall gonna be eating still
Probably not, think it'll take me another 20 mins to reach after checking in.
Will probably reach restaurant around 8:30.
Yuppppp
Sounds good 8:30 there then
Not sure if the food hall will be great for a large group.
It's blast food hall near Shinjuku station.
The vijin pin I liked earlier is the same building.
I already ate though
Also, it's full of gaijin
So if you are looking for a more JP activity, might not be a great first place
I did like the food though
None of my maps are working
Hi, I'm new but I can join if peeps are meeting up
Are any of you guys in shinjuku
Just about to take off to head home. Shout to everyone on here who I met, and even those I didn’t, for making this an unforgettable trip. Much love xoxox
I'm in Shinjuku atm, but I probably need to drop some bags off at hq
Okay i looked up and food hall blast is right across from me
I’ll be sitting here while i try to get it to work
I can be there in 20 mins
Same. Walking from my place
I feel so awkward i still have on my sweatpants from the plane and didn’t change into normal pants like everyone else
Don't worry, I pretty much did the same thing when I arrived
Maybe I double back at some point if y'all are still around later
Heading toward aki rn
Should have looked for arcades in Shinjuku honestly
Two days before I get there- nervous and excited
Was lazy and just trained over
I only brought sweatpants
My compass or something in my privacy settings isn’t on but i can’t figure out how to turn it on. Otherwise my google map doesn’t know where I’m going
train just arrived but which gate do i go out from ?
I had gps but no internet
iPhone? And are you using google maps?
Yes
The eSim didn't kick in?
I’ll wait here for you guys and we can grab food and then I’ll go to my hotel to sleep
Fucking rich richertons reeeeeeeeeeee
My phone is old and doesn't support esim
My bad- thought I saw you talking about one somewhere
Go into setting on your phone look for the google maps app click location and see if it looks similar to this
Have fun!! Hopefully see you guys soon and join in
I have it set to always
East probably
My bus dropped us off at west
I walked in one direction accidentally and ended up at the food hall
Precise location on?
Yes
Omoide yokocho probably, lots of small stands?
It says on the app my compass isn’t working
idk im at happy lemon its not a good place to meet it was like a maze to get out and lots of construction
Go to settings privacy and security then to location services scroll until system services and then it should be there
Compass calibration
@flint nacelle @midnight hull @reef burrow @weak wind ok tagged all. We need a meeting point 7:30 or so
Food Hall Blast! Tokyo
this one ?
Was that was it was toggled off? So weird to just not be turned on for you
oke im like 8min walk from it
Well glad it worked really weird that was just turned off though have an awesome time on your trip
I’m outside with a white sweatshirt and grey sweatpants
Yes thanks!
Lucky that
It'll be a blast
I'm about 7 mins away as well
Blast is cool, other side of where im at so will take me 20 mins
bout 10 mins away
im 2mins away
I'm here
im here
Habo have you heard of BPM15Q
Where are you guys eating? I've just moseyed into shinjuku
Do you not have offline maps? At least on android you can do that
no
out front
I did
I actually did quite well without internet for several days
It was nice being unplugged from the net
Im here
The Shinkansen is so wild to ride on
What did you do?
Just browsing. But as a weeb, it's amazing seeing a physical embodiment of anime
It's like a convention
But all the time
I'm so excited for exactly that
Just browing real life waifu pillows feels like a surreal experience lol
Save one for when I'm there lol
Will do
That's a good way to put it actually
@tawny sigil checking in at my hostel now.
I’m here out front
I’m here now but no rush. Will wait outside for for a bit.
My thinking exactly
Moreover, I think I saw some mandarake employees working on merch at the store in Nakano
Either that or two employees both working in Blender on their brake in stream room
Not sure
So it's like, obviously all art someone made
This museum
I’m here outside on the corner where are you
Nakano has some pretty good art galleries
I think I’m in front of the place
Im wrong
Haha 😂
You heading this way?
Heading out now. There was a couple other checking in ahead of me. Will reach in about 20 mins.
Used to be way better back in the days. Lots of shops/places have closed since
Saw this the last time I was in akiba
Pwhat in tarnation
That.. is more than a little creepy
I think you'll be surprised at just how....brazen Akihabara can get
Dear lord
Even as a veteran weeb, I've been pretty surprised
As a fellow veteran.. good to have a heads up
Sounds good we are outside waiting now for you
4 minutes away.
that is awesome that you got to see him
I missed Senri last night and Plini tonight the horror
Going to a preseason game tomorrow at 1pm
https://quick.pia.jp/swallows_en/
There is a building with every kind of culture stuff
Denden is way smaller because it isnt a tourist trap yet
Nakano Broadway has some good deals on PVC figures
I find that anime goods are generally priced a lot higher in Akiba
They know tourists will go there so they can jack up the price
Never heard of this guy before .he is shredding though
It's like if Steve vai played a fusion of djent and progressive
He is playing Osaka tomorrow wow. But pricey for someone I just found out about haha
Yea. I've been following the band for awhile, they just so happened to be performing in Japan right now.
I'm in Tokyo. Any live music around 9pm this Friday, March 22nd?
@reef burrow @lofty nymph @sinful mountain
You mentioned that you're interested in going to AnimeJapan on March 23rd according to this spreadsheet.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tKarlqGvgFhoqtJnTptdHYxEVOfFZ-FabWcXeG-5XNk/edit#gid=0
I'm probably not going to go but feel free to make plans amongst yourselves
Sheet1
Name,Details,Google Maps Link,Location,When?,Who wants to go?,Can you make a reservation?
See the cherry blossoms at Chidorigafuchi Moat.,A popular place to see cherry blossoms.
You can rent a row boat to see the cherry blossoms from the moat. It's 800 yen for 30 minutes on the boat.,
@reef burrow @flint nacelle @plush silo @grim gull
You mentioned that you're interested in going to "K-1 World MAX 2024 Super Welterweight Final 16" tomorrow, March 20th.
I'm probably not going but feel free to make plans amongst yourselves
👍🏾
9pm is a bit late to be showing up, because most shows end at 10-ish
I'm heading to this banger on Friday
https://www.ddinstagram.com/p/C2-GM4Myvj3/

what happened lol
Filthy
I wish I could have been there
I'm 0/2 on math rock bands I want to see
dope
I'm right next to den den during my Osaka stay
deffo gonna explore it
Alright so I’m a big white dude that’s already gonna stick out in a crowd lol bringing a girl friend work colleague with me, both our first times going to Japan. Staying in Shinjuku March 23-29 and Osaka March 29-Apr 02.
I’ll be out in Shinjuku every night drinking and hangin out, would be cool to link up with some people. Open to any and all recommendations as well for places to spend my time at
Leaving hakone today. Gora Kansuiro was fantastic. Had a nice soak this morning while watching the sun rise. Off to kyoto today after exploring the town of hakone for a bit.
Ooh nice, I'll be staying there next month. Big fan of the Taisho-era style. How was the shared onsen?
The indoor and outdoor bathing areas were split my sex. Not as nice as if you google pics of what an onsen looks like, but it was relaxing and the whole resort is like a village. A bunch of small villas around as you walk to the outdoor onsen.
I think we'll be in one of those villas, really pumped. I heard the garden makes you feel like you're in another world
Yeah. The diner was fantastic too. Looking forward to breakfast in an hour
Seeing a lot of things listed as closed for the holiday today, is that really going to be the case for tsukiji etc?
oh im just going to ueno then maybe the cat temple
About to take the public transportation here for the first time, hopefully I don’t get lost
you can do it!
Wait how did you even get to your accommodation? Taxi?
@tawny sigil @clear bobcat - great to meet you both! That dinner last night was FIRE!

Bus from airport
@tawny sigil @distant pollen Yeah great meeting you guys. Down to grab dinner again if y'all are available. Honestly may go to that place again once more before I leave Osaka 🤣
look at the pillars or signs before you enter or during a platform they say where the train is headed and each stop
Ah I see. GL Shinjuku station should be fun
Yes. Usually somewhere on either side of the track you’ll see a map if it’s going left or right and it’ll confirm which station you’re trying to get to.
I leave tomorrow for Tokyo 🥲
Me too
I hope everyone’s having a great March trip!
Same to you my friend
Thank you 🥲🥲
i guess you can say....youre marching for tokyo
Marching my way over the great pond
And beyond
Good time to re-watch March comes in like a Lion
I made it to my first transfer station going well so far
I went to a smaller station on the pink line instead of shinjuku
Woot
The best/worst I have seen during rush hours are pushing and the long lineups. It wrapped around like a snake all the way outside the station lol
the JY (green line) is the easiest to maneuver through easy the find and it loops. So no matter where it takes you it loops back
yes it's a loop but it takes an hour to go all the way around
so staying on board if you miss your stop isn't a great idea
also doing so would technically be fare evasion!
ye of course but at least you wont end up in Odawara cause you took the express and it skips most stations
which i almost did

Haha for sure was nice to meet you guys shit was delicious and pretty reasonable price for the quality of food @distant pollen
Considering how foul the United States population can be with public transportation: The Japan metro system is virtually spotless.
The sauce!!
I'm east coast and I saw our local subway line get its antenna caught in the overhead lines and literally explode
So looking forward to functional and clean transit for once lol
Anyone headed out tn in Ginza area?
is mcdonald’s open at least
all i need
Konbinies are open
Hello everyone i just joined. My friends wanted to stay in so I'm walking around soloo
Anyone near the imperial East gardens area and want to grab food?
I’m at an art museum right now but should finish soon
I was just there. I came to sky tree
Where's this at?

Cool art in hakone
Golden gai tonight?
Meetups happening here #1218110805451477142
Space Tokyo in Shinjuku looks like the choice tonight
Supppoooooo
That’s hot
I’m hitting up Osaka castle right meow if anyone’s close
Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto
Where? I was there yesterday and the day before and didn't see any
Yodo Station
Ah cool
hokaido ?
oh so its far down, just came bk a few days ago barely saw any.
Its raining in Tokyo now, heavy rain is expected in the afternoon evening
Found my Japanese crack finally
just finished tattoo
Let’s see
Berserk
yuh
Nice! Maybe I should get a tattoo, how far did you have to book in advanced?
Also how do you guys not fall asleep? I’m so so so tired from the time difference
How bad would it be if I took a nap
Just keep pushing through explore stay moving it helps the first night and full day are crucial for getting jet lag knocked out
Just so I was affective, i took naps. I set a timer for each nap. Make that timer smaller each day. By day 3 I didn't need a nap.
I normally operate on 3-4 hours of sleep on the daily
booked ~3-4 months in advance with studio muscat
That catches up to you eventually, I’ve only slept more than 5 hours one or two days so far
Okay I’ll try not to nap. I’ve walked about 7 miles so far and now I’m back at my hotel
I’m someone that gets 8 hours each night religiously
I know. Can't really adjust it currently
omw back to Shinjuku if anyone wants to get a late lunch?
Sleep a bit early for the next couple days and you'll be fine after that
Nice! I've got the brand too
Im already eating but I’d do dinner in Shinjuku
That's crazy. Is it because of your job? Or cuz you don't sleep well?
Going to pit inn tn, interesting guitarist
I don't sleep well and my job. Been going on for more than a decade for sure
going to find a place for dinner in shinjuku sanchome if anyone wants to tag along
Fight through the pain!
Very nice Dante!
Oh damn that's a long time. Sorry to hear that
@plush silo how was the Boris and Melvins show? Or is that tonight?
I’m bad at staying in touch here. Finished at Osaka castle - headed to Namba yasaka shrine
For anyone who wants do dinner in Shinjuku I been wantin to try out this Yakiniku spot https://maps.app.goo.gl/AnM2ny2u4wfjoGAi7
If anyone who wants to join has any dietary restrictions or allergies we can always move as well
would like to join, when?
6:30 or 7 work for people?
also it's reservation so need to confirm # of ppl joining
Aaaand I made my first metro mess up
sure
Not bad considering I’ve been here aweek
It happens sometimes. Even me, happens at least once per trip here lol
can come at 7
need to do laundry at the hotel first.
I couldn't make it! But I've seen them both multiple times and always awesome, you saw them right or is it later?
would also like to join on yakiniku
I’m down for some yakiniku
I’ll go
I'm down
Does anyone want to walk around kobuchiko this afternoon, need to move and not nap
would that be open tonight? thought today was a holiday
Yea I'm in shinjuku had no idea it was a holiday haha everything seems open
I have landed just on the NXT heading to the hotel!
Ah damn sorry you didn't make it in the end..yes I went to the Osaka show Sunday which was just the Melvins. They were awesome
Ah day late would have loved to see Boris again!
Reservation at Hinomaru set for 12 ppl at 6:30
Just a heads up, it seems like it's cash only
Is it too late to get in on the Yakinikku action I get the sense my friends are going to bail on our plans tonight due to being too tired from the flights
still got room, told the restaurant 12 people instead of 10 just in case more people wanted to join
anyone in kyoto in the next few days?
Anyone in shinjuku rn? And wants to meet up?
I’ll meet up before the dinner maybe in an hour
That weather came from nowhere huh?
https://maps.app.goo.gl/3iusYfCBWRsYr4oS9
I'm heading here soon for some ramen if anyone wants to join
Got recommended by the locals when I asked them for ramen + rice set 🙂
Alright
Went yesterday actually. It's ok
I only went because it's the only Flying Witch location I know off top that isn't in Aomori or something
I had the opposite thought. I thought it was in the woods before looking on a map
It's mid size
I liked it, but touristy
Saw some other shrines and temples on the walk there that were really peaceful
No tourists except me
Also, did you see this?
I think
Not sure if this is fingers alone, but the slat for making offerings has this worn groove
Really shows the age of the place if it's mostly fingers that did that.
Anyone in kyoto?
Heading into Shinjuku now will be about 12 minutes
Okay sounds good getting ready be there in 20
Any space for 1 more?
yuh
Just finished laundry if anyone wants to meetup in Shinjuku before Yakiniku
Room for me as well?
Works for me
yuh
I can meet up to hang abit, but I'm not going yakiniku 🙆🏻♂️
Currebtly eating ramen 🙊
On my way to Shinjuku
Where do we wanna meet?
Got space still?
How about infront of the kabukicho Don Quijote?
Thumbs up this comment if you're joining for Yakiniku
Be there in 15
This wind is serious
Any club events this week?
I'm a night owl right now
and am now able to do shows that run till morning
I can stay out past first train no issue
might be down for something tonight
seems like Clubasia has a dj rotation going
not sure if its my vibe
never been clubbing
Clubasia Friday night
oh ok gotcha
I think I misread the poster then
ah maybe I save my steam for then
ah but the next two days are like, the last sunny days for a week
don't want to sleep through them
fuckckkcckakkca
worth noting for anyone tonight, clubasia is free entry for foreigners based on that poaster
really not diggint the set though tbh
looking at the artists
Here outside of don
8 mins from don
Few minutes out I suck at shinjuku train station
a few from Shinjuku station
Im also Outside
Almost there
I'm starting now it's 20-30mins from my hotel
Same look for black jacket and green jacket
out front
wtf is this weather holy fk
Forecast says it is going to snow in the next hour in osaka
Snow here in Osaka? Wtf? No way haha
My weather app doesn't say that. That's wild
It's been raining here a lot today. If this turns to snow, that'll be interesting
Gonna be there in like 15
I’m 5 minutes out
lol, having Yakuniku with a local and noticed the English menu is 5-10% more for the same items then the local version.
Also, the Ginza Art Aquarium was kind of neat.
Goldfish!
Check azabudai hills gallery btw. Might like it
They close after the 31st
sounds about right
I always prefer to use Google translate for Japanese menus before ordering, to avoid getting charged the tourist tax for this reason
ok im lost just entered Kabukitcho Sakura Dori
it should be here
ok i think i found it is it upstairs or downstairs ?
down
Open dinner invite to anyone else currently in Osaka, me and @tawny sigil are going to walk around Dotonbori around 7:40 if anyone wants to join us.
Rain/hail in kyoto plus wind
Just meeting in 15 min and gonna pick something at random?
I'm down to join. I'm a 15 min walk from dotonbori, so I'll head that way. Where at dotonbori shall we meet?
Was thinking of okonomiyaki at originally but we're gonna meet up first and decide after.
Flying soon! Will be in Tokyo tomorrow!
Yokohama tomorrow anyone?
Anyone listening to live music Saturday night? I'm looking for a group
I'm in for Sat
Was nice meeting you man safe flight back home
see ya soldier
I’m gonna be back in Tokyo fri, sat, sun and I’m wondering if anyone is interested in a couple hours of karaoke
Maybe a decent group of like 5-10people if we even have that many
Sign me up for Sun
What are you interested in listening to?
Electronic/Dance, but it doesn't matter, I just wanted to experience the live music scene
So open to anything
Anyone out in Shinjuku going clubbing?

debating fixing my sleep schedule to enjoy last two days of good weather for a while(we're supposed to have a week of garbage clouds and rain)
or not fixing it and experiencing club scene
I feel more comfortable as my usual grungy self at a live show though
having the same thoughts right now haha
looks wet for days from Friday
yep. Be aware, the forecast has been wrong like, all week
even a day before
We had some sunny days we weren't supposed to
yea true, was all over the place today
although, it has correctly predicted the FUCKED FUCKING WIND
easy to predict since its been windy all month
minus like, 1 day
that wind its borderline tortune without proper clothing.
I was tipsy and then I walked to my hotel and the wind made me sober
i guess all you needed was....some fresh air

ok these jokes are bad when tired.
im out
that joke blowed 🌬️
Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone here had been to nozawa onsen in march and what your feedback on it is, if so?
better to ask in the attractions or accommodations threads
we go off topic here, but usually it's a tangent from something relevent
better to start new discussions in their appropriate spaces

Another heavy hitter off the checklist. Its basic, but their espresso martinis is off the charts
Done as well, thanks Habo!
Hi all,
Does anyone want to join me at this Japanese Curry place on Thursday, March 21st (tomorrow)?
https://maps.app.goo.gl/L5RPUTuX2xXuZQHx9
It's in Shibuya and it's got good reviews. I'm planning to go at 5:30-6ish. I can probably can hang out for another hour afterwards.
The place is small so I'm going to cap the group to 4 people (including me)
I just read this T____T
is the offer still valid?
You’re in
@finite shore Cathay Pacific decided to delay my flight for an entire day, I might have to skip on the live music show over this
Bruh call em and tell em unacceptable. Anything over 12 hr delay they gotta rebook you for something around the same time at their expense.
This is the time to be a Karen lol
Yeah I'm trying
You got this. Cuz that’s some bs lol. Happened to me going to Iceland and I emailed em on the plane to my connecting flight, like no that’s not gonna work. Need to leave the same day I booked my flight or compensate me please and thank you
Yep stick it to them and either get another free flight back to Japan or rebooked to sometime same day
"Technically" it is the same day, 1:30 am -> 10 pm so they're coasting by, I've been put on hold oh the phone for half an hour now
Do not deal with Cathay Pacific. I know this will be my last time.
Feels bad losing a day over this
Anything over 2-3 hrs is typically a rebook
Hope it works out stay firm
Quick question: they asked me if I'm okay with reaching at 3 am on another flight (before they hung up on me)
Can I go from Haneda to Akasaka at that time?
Got my answers
They hung up on you? Man thats shit
Yeah - called me back, atleast
Cathay has many genius level moves, like tying your login entirely to your cell phone number instead of email, needing to have a registered account in order to be able to even speak to a human, etc.
Wow scum
Is there any higher authority for flights that they would have to answer to?
For fucking you?
Were you able to get reschedule?
No clue - I would push harder, but honestly I'm stressed out enough as it is. They're giving me a 3:30 am arrival on Saturday instead of 1 pm, and I'm taking it.
I'll have to draw on my coffee fueled all nighter energy and gain close to a full day back if I can
Inari shrine closed due to winds. Found another path that went a bit farther than the main path.
I think airlines customer support have gone down hill in general since covid. Not sure if it's due to dumber employees or employees being paid less due to covid layoffs etc, but it seems to be an issue across the board. Because Cathay is known to be one of the best airlines around, so having shitty experience and bad customer service from one of the top airlines kind of just shows airline travel and support has gone downhill across the board
I don't want to be too hard on them, they took a long time but they did end up re-booking my flight, but the quality and logistics of this are definitely worse than how I remember it being pre-pandemic
Dam that sucks. But also good that they finally rebook flight. Getting there earlier now?
Yeah after traveling a ton the last 2 years, I've definitely noticed both those things (quality and logistics) have taken steps backwards for many airlines unfortunately
3 am instead of 1:30 pm Sat, original was 1:30 pm Fri. Not the best but not the worst. I'll probably end up leaving my luggage at the hotel and fight through the jetlag.
CP has been going down hill for the past decade
You can blame the Chinese government for that
Ever since China has exerted more and more control over HK and due to their terrible COVID policies, CP has suffered enormously.
Also HK has become less popular as a place to do business due to the Chinese government, so less business travel to HK.
They should still give you a credit or free flight tbh. Cuz a delay or postponement/flight change of over 12 hrs is really unacceptable. But yeah at least they got you an arrival 13 hrs later instead of 24 hrs
@azure zodiac I hadn't even thought of those reasons for Cathay going downhill, but likely some very valid points unfortunately
I did ask, got a no. If I was any less tired I'd have pushed harder, but I just want to get this over with.
damn just seeing this - is it too late to get tickets at all?
The flight I'm eyeing back to Chiang Mai from NY late this summer, is Cathay to Hong Kong, short layover in HK, and then Cathays budget airline (HK Express) to Chiang Mai. Now I'm second guessing that option haha 😂
Ah damn.. understandable. When tired, it's hard to want to deal with shitty customer support of any kind
Anyone want to karaoke tonight?
Cathay suffered horribly under the COVID policies of China
but so did all of China
COVID really really wrecked their economy and their standing in the world
A lot of businesses didn't like their COVID policies and now realize that putting all their eggs in one back wasn't a good idea.
Supply chain bottlenecks
China is having a rough time on everything. It doesn't help that their government loves to censor anything they don't like
Indeed
Hmm, my first Tokyo earthquake
Median sized earthquake!
Am in the train everyones phone went on alarm mode. Now we waiting a bit
Should I go back to my hotel or…?
A lady at the station said it was far away
It doesn’t affect us
Everyone was calm
Back to sleep then
That was scary
lol you’ll get used to it
I was underground so i didn’t feel anything
As long as no sirens or horns going. A ok
How often do they happen
Ah ibaraki. I'm in the west end so nothing over here
Earthquakes? On a daily basis
Wow
Felt one small one at 4am 2/3 days ago that woke me up
The infrastructure here is amazing for earthquakes.
Best country for it
They kinda have to because of how frequently they get it
Anyone staying in Shinjuku March 23 - 29th? Start a chat with me I’m looking to kick it with people and get drinks in the evenings
With earthquakes, they also need to account for tsunamis and landslides
気象庁
Bruh I thought it would be easy to set up some nights in Shinjuku with people but I’ve been ignored every time 🤣 where’s my ppl at
Do people just come on here like the night they’re looking to meet up and not plan ahead?
Yes
i witnessed them, scary ppl walking down dark alleys late at night looking to drink alcohol and eat miso soup.

Yeah most of my plans have been made day or
Of
Sorry that’s happened to you!
Apparently that eartgquake was 5.3 at south ibaraki prefecture
It felt alot more when you stayed on the higher floors O.O
I’ve sent things day of that done get responded to for hours later everyone plays it by ear on when things finish for them on the day more then anything
Also some snow flurries out in Kyoto right now
I was chilling in the hotel onsen when the tremor hit, which was slightly unnerving. Had to quickly scramble into the change room with a gaggle of naked Japanese dudes, although everyone else seemed quite relaxed about it.
It was great! Not as many people and the snow was great quality. It did get warmer later in the day however and it became a little slushy and hard to snowboard on
Was at a station platform just thought it was a train until the alert hit
Maybe you sent message in the wrong channel and not this March meetup one? I've seen people planning stuff in Tokyo what seems like every single night haha. Just check this channel in the evenings and you'll definitely find folks meeting up in Tokyo for dinner or drinks or both
Good thing I was half asleep. Im on F23 and I could feel my bed shaking. Wasn't awake enough yet to start panicking
Hahaha you went with calm, i was half drowsy half walked to the toilet for shelter just to be safe 😅
Bruh I laid there and tried to go back to sleep, but all those alarms were too noisy
I think people pretty much have plans on that night or are not in Tokyo/Osaka. I don't even see people, outside of that, looking for meetups
Looks like most are planning night meetups the day/night of
Welp I plan to drink some whisky in ueno park later tonight 10pm ish 🙂 if anyone is interested
ueno is nearby for me i can join but 10pm might be late for those staying in further areas and cant catch the last train.
Ahhhhh
Ueno park 8-10pm
I have my whisky I'm happy to share some 😘 (highlandpark 12), and got my whisky glass
Not sure where has nice seats to drink in there i'm winging it 🙆🏻♂️
I'm planning to just vibe and see sakura while i drink 😘
Don't forget to buy a heat pack, its going to be freezing
Oh yea!
Anyone flying right now lol
🙋
I wish lol
Slept about 7 hours on the plane
At Jamaican Ramen shop. Gotta love it
Where at?
In Shinjuku til 26th
Hey everybody! Currently in Shinjuku from Minnesota staying until Mar 25. First time experiencing an earthquake today… almost shit my pants 😅🤣
Where at?
Icchan Ramen in East kyoto. Great atmosphere and fantastic ramen
who tryna grab dinner in tokyo for my last night
down anywhere
can’t drink tho, flight tmrw morn
Sounds like quitter talk. Get there drunk ezpz
Throwing the bat signal out for tonight, Friday, and Saturday. Tryna get toasted my last few days in Tokyo, 5 am type nights. Ima keep an eye on here but pls remember me 🫡throw an @ along
@lilac pier I’m game where you staying
Down for dinner and drinks in shinjuku tonight. I prob won’t make 5am but will see 🤣
Kuramae but that’s a bit out the way 😬😬that’s why I mean the 5am bit because I probably won’t start walking home till 4 at least lmao
That’s cool. Sounds like we have some shinjuku folks down for meet up? I’m currently checking out Koenji.. been to Shibuya and the Toyosu fish market otherwise been in Shinjuku. Down to go wherever!
Shinjuku works for me!
We can scope one out the start? I've found witn a lot of meetups there's so many people it's hard to find one place haha
Right yeah
Usually the izakayas are in a bigass line though so may or may not be issue if we like 1 table over lol
Someone smarter than me should lead and pick a spot hehe
I am nothing but a drone
I will buy a drink for whoever coordinates and takes the lead 🤝
a group of 6 at max for izekaya its really small and after 11 dont go alone and avoid the Nigerians
That’s crazy
yeah they are the size of a walk in closet in the golden gai area
That wasn’t the crazy part I was referring to g to but understood
Im game tho watching chat 👀
There is somewhere in Tokyo that's unsafe to go alone after 11? I have not been yet, but that seems surprising from everything I've heard
i havent seen many other places look like shinzuku and roppongi after 11.
Oh were you referring to crowd sizes moreso than safety?
https://discord.com/channels/440956791426383882/1218110805451477142 for anyone who wants to come out tonight smaller channel easier to follow
Its the very structure and positions they take.
If youre alone its small tiny roads and guys just standing idle in the middle several of them. Thats not what you saw at he izakaya you go out to the Sakura district thats where id say if youre alone gtfo asap
LUCKY
Idk if my memories failing me but you fly out today right?
Anyone in Kanazawa wanting to meet up at all? Down to go explore or grab a coffee and cake somewhere
I accidentally put my hair product in my carry on and they threw away a months worth of hair care products and I have a super curly afroy hair 💀😭😭 going straight to a African hair care spot in harajuku I hope they can get me right on product
Afro hair care spot! Could you ask if they know any barbers? 😅🤣
My flight got delayed due to airline shenanigans, flying out tomorrow and losing (kind of) a day
I actually can I bet there are some fire barbers that can cut black hair I feel like imma be mad surprised when I go to hunt for product
Oh nooooooo that almost happened to me
I accepted my fate and haven’t been moisturizing my locs 💀
RIIIIP 😭😭
I’ll be on overtime when I get back home
NOOOO OOOOF
For now the bonnet gonna have to carry
Last summer when I was in Tokyo I ran out of product and it was KO for my hair looked like a damn crack head
Rough times 😬
Only here for the week so I’m surviving
But like a month without hair care? Agonizing
Frrr fingers crossed on finding some at the very least decent stuff at these shops I’ve read about hahah
Straight up, there’s hope though I’ve peeped a bunch of potential spots researching on the way
Also how the fuck do y’all be getting the opportunity to stay for a month at a time
I mean I’m an American student still I don’t understand how vacation time work
But that seem like a crazy amount of time in any case 💀
same man im only here for a week because spring break
I work freelance doing music videos clothing advert roll outs, VFX, etc etc just had to grind like CRAZY all year to be able to afford a month off. Still have to work a few jobs while out here but nothing crazy. So technically still working but not as intensive
and im still stressing about hw
Exactly and I’m missing 2 or 3 days still just to extend it a biiiit further lmao
Ah okay that’s dope
I’m sat up in an office so I’ll eventually have to figure out allocating large amounts of time cause I feel I haven’t even scratched the surface of Tokyo after 3 days
That's sick, I'm remote too so here for a month or so, time dif is killer though
either they accumulate PTO, take a leave or unpaid time off
and it also depends if the company will let you
i told mine if they don’t let me go on vacation i’ll quit on the spot
I mean… I’m in a subsidiary for Toshiba so… maybe I can work that into an excuse to stay in Japan 💀
Dude even after two weeks I felt like that, such a rabbit hole of exploration 😭
Uhhhh cultural and language exchange benefits workflow by ????
Faaaaaaacts that time difference is pain, most the clients are UK based so I’ll be with you on the weird ass meeting hours this month
Just say kekkou or kaeru and the’ll leave you alone fr
💀💀 ong
Wildin
Like Modok said
You accumulate PTO, you request a leave, or in some extreme cases, they just use sick days.
sorry I'm out of discounts 🥲
Regular tickets available at the door, ¥5000 regular or ¥3500 for under-22s
¥5000 (the price of like 3 drinks in Golden Gai)
Its not about bothering its from a strategic point of view youre simple not in a safe position
Ahoy travelers! I’m in Kyoto with @vague yoke and we’re looking at potential fooding around 6pm ish if anyone is interested
I deleted it
Thanks. I was getting dizzy.
I'm lucky to have a remote job and a boss who is a buddy that doesn't care about my time zone, so I've been doing the nomad thing for almost 2 years now 🙏
Good to know. Where in shinjuku is this area that can be unsafe or bothersome if alone?
They mostly outside of golden gai or kuyakusho-dori
sorry MrT
I am forced to use my vacations after accumulating a certain amount of hours.
very unfortunate typo!!!!!
Can be anywhere in kabukicho tho
the what bro
You're fine, it was just causing my eyes to go loopy
where ? what is it ?
Nigerian*
Ah ok..I thought golden gai was safe, since so many people go there and hype it up. I'll be extra aware when I check that area out if I go solo
oh ok let me change
Interesting. Do they offer to pay the PTO in cash if you don't use it, or you actually have to take off work once you accrued a certain amount even if you don't want/plan to go anywhere?
Yeah either I get extra money which I get taxed even more or take time off
Aha very interesting
Thank God for the internet fr. I want to go full nomad by the time I’m 25 so inspiring hearing you’re on that path fully rn
They are legally required to pay me those hours if I quit too
one of these days i will get to that point
I’d still say its safe, but i guess that might be subjective just dont go with them
Goals! Doing a trial run now but yea japan isn't cheap haha
this life has it's pros and cons
Luckily there are many remote jobs out there these days or so it seems. Best of luck to you, I hope you find something that works for you 🙏
What are the both sides of the fence that you’ve peeped so far in terms of the pros and cons
Japan is somewhat cheap coming from NY or California (where I lived my whole life before nomading. But also, I made these 2 months in Japan at the end of my 6 month Asia trip and my first 4 months were in Thailand and Vietnam. So a cheap as hell first 4 months, allowed me to splurge on Japan for 2 months 🙏
Thanks a bunch man! Slowly but surely getting there with being sustainable enough to go full nomad with it just have to keep building up my client base since all my work is self sustained it’s a bit more of a grind than the standard employee employer route
Definitely, but for me the pros have outweighed the cons enough to enjoy it for 2 years so far
pros: travel, experiences, meeting new people etc etc
cons (imho): feeling of not belonging anywhere, missing family and friends when traveling far for a long time (i.e. I'm from italy and I'm japan for almost 6 months and I did the same last year), hard to get a stable relationship etc
I think it's just that I'm getting older ahah
Ahhhh I can totally see it especially the family and relationship aspect
For me the biggest cons are loneliness, packing/moving between each new stop, and language barriers. But I've found ways to combat the cons somewhat...
Discord groups such as this, meetups from FB or WhatsApp groups, language exchanges etc...all help the loneliness aspect a bit.
By trying to base myself in each country for 1-2 months instead of a few weeks and to just do small day or weekend trips with a backpack from my base, has made the moving and packing issue only a handful of times a year. And Google translate and Duolingo have helped the language barrier for many cases and places
As I get older those aspects will definitely start to sync in even more so I could see, I’m 23 right now so I want to use the end of early to mid 20’s to really experiment in that realm to see if it’s something I’d like once I’m able to go in fully
Damn after reading both of these pros and cons it really seems like these cons have nothing but positive back ends to them all rooted in HEAVY introspection and character building
The Stable relationship part is very true. I actually was not looking for any long term or serious relationship from a dating standpoint, but they say love finds you when you least expect it or aren't looking for it. I started dating a girl from tinder back in early November in Thailand. Well now we have been together for nearly 5 months, are trying the long distance thing, and I will head back to Chiang Mai in August to take a pause from nomading to spend 6-9 months with her hopefully. So while finding stable relationships is hard, it's definitely not impossible 🙏
Congrats on that bro that’s mad beautiful 🥲🥲🥲🥲 mega rooting for yall!
Thank you 🙏
ah how romantic, all the best friend.
❤️
Japan's cost heavily depends on where you're coming from
Thank you 🙏
If you're coming from a major US city, Japan is on par with the cheaper major US cities, and way cheaper than the big major US cities
Japan is far cheaper than say San Francisco or Los Angeles or Manhattan
Yep exactly, and especially with the weak Yen
Yea it's cheaper than where I'm from more mean compared to other SE Asia spots.
1 month in shinjuku was cheaper than my rent in the UK 💀
Before becoming fully nomadic I lived my whole life between Staten Island, Brooklyn and San Diego. Thus, most places I've ever traveled to have been cheaper. Singapore and Norway are the only places I've been that are more expensive. Singapore actually made NY feel affordable, which is wild haha 👀
I think it's also cheaper or same than most west european countries
Talking about main cities
Oh yeah compared to Thailand or Vietnam, Japan is definitely more expensive
but costs are going up quite a bit in Thailand
Yeah very few places in the world are cheaper than southeast Asia (excluding Singapore of course)
At kanazawa reporting in
I was eating 2-3 meals a day in Vietnam for under 10 bucks TOTAL lol
Oh definitely with the weak Yen, it's cheaper than most European capital cities for sure
Can confirm, cheaper than Amsterdam
Yep. Even cheaper than Lisbon And Porto, And Portugal used to be the "cheap" part of western Europe
Lisboa and Porto got hit hard by expats, rough for locals
Yeah true
I loved Porto..didn't enjoy Lisboa
Northern eu is expensive as hell
Portugal had one of the easiest long term visas for foreigners to get and has a great climate, so not too surprising though
specially the Nordic countries
Yep can confirm. I paid 8 dollars for a glass of apple juice in oslo, and 40 dollars for a ramen lunch in Copenhagen 🤦
Swiss is also up there
I've heard Switzerland is even more expensive. I haven't been yet
30-35usd for a plate of food
Switzerland is up there with Singapore as the most expensive places to live in the world, but with the highest paying jobs I believe
Yeah I've heard that. Wild
The south is more reasonable though
Oh yeah? Which cities for example? Considering Switzerland as a stop for my Europe travels this summer
Facts Japan is so so so so cheap compared to places like fucking la or even Denver
I meant southern eu like Albania, the Balkans, slovenia
Oh hahaha. Word
I think I was able to get a meal for 1usd in Slovenia
Yeah I need to visit that part of Europe eventually. Furthest east I've been is Hungary and Poland. I've been south to Athens and Sicily, but not southeast
Poland was cheap. Not so much anymore because of the war
Poland is quite cheap, for how amazing the infrastructure is in the cities. Warsaw might be the best public transit I've taken in Europe (aside for maybe Berlin)
Yeah the war has inflated it a bit
Wow that's dope
Denver has gotten insanely expensive I've heard
@low rune is that where you're from?
Yes indeed, Denver definitely has become CRAZY expensive it’s getting insane
well guess where i’m not moving
Denver is an awesome city, but yeah my friends told me this
Best sushi meal I ever had before my visit to Japan was in Denver
Dinner tonight? @tight flax and @clear bobcat last night in Osaka before I leave in the morning and anyone else in the area open invite
slovenia and slovakia are central they are nothing like albenia romania monte bulgaria . .etc
Indeed
I'm down 👍
Meet up at same time and place as yesterday?
Works good for me gives me time to pack and be prepared to leave in the morning before going out
Alright sounds good.
@clear bobcat @tawny sigil Maybe wanna meet in the Shinsaibashi area (a bit north of the river and dotonbori area, but still walking distance from where we were last night), somewhere between Nagahoribashi and Shinsaibashi Stations? Might have shorter queues and the same number of food options..will still be busy, but not as crowded or as insane queues as dotonbori was I think...
@tight flax yeah true, I'm fine with that.
I’m cool with whatever just drop a location to meet around there and all and I’ll be good I just got back into Osaka so heading to my room now for a bit
Ok cool I'll find a family Mart or easy location in the center of that area and share it here shortly
Sounds good
Dude SONODAS GOT THAT FIRE SUSHI
Haha I have heard this is fire, haven't been yet
2 hours and 30 till I land thank god
I was referring to sushi den
Def check it out, even my friends parents here in Tokyo were talking it up 😂
Yeah it's on my list next time I visit CO
I've been to sushi den 2 times and uno mas taqueria 3 times...2 staples for me, whenever I visit Denver lol
Man I don’t think I’ve been to sushi den is that downtown?
And Denver biscuit company too
PSSHHHHHHHH FIRE
Yep on pearl
love that spot
Okay bet when I’m back I’m pulling up
Definitely! Make a reservation or get there when they open, but worth it! Best toro I've had outside of Peru and Japan lol
Daaamn stomachs starting to growl thinking of this food lmaooo bouta go in when I land
Sushi den is fire
No reservations
You from Denver too?
Sushi den? I could've sworn I got a reservation for one of my 2 times there, but maybe I'm mistaken. It was also like 8 or 9 years ago
2nd time I went was like 3 or 4 years ago and we had to wait 40 min for seats
Ah I’ve been within the last year and the year before that
You gotta line up at 4Pm nowadays
I got a better spot in south Denver now but it’s slowly getting super popular
Yeah we lined up at 5 and got in by 540/45 luckily. Worth the wait
Good to know
Anyway if you’re ever back in town I got recs for Denver out the wazoo
I'm sure I'll be back someday. Will need my red rocks fix again eventually
When I moved out of NY in 2014, Denver and San Diego were the 2 cities I considered. San Diego won haha, but I like Denver a lot
No idea lol, just met couple of cool ppl at a sake tasting and also asked them, I know they're staying in Shinjuku
Any ideas?
I'm in nakameguro, saw a spot there too
Landed in haneda 3:15. Now getting on train. Made it
Ah man we were from Chicago and picked Denver over Seattle ultimately

it's much bigger than it looks
