Online, overseas credit cards are very hit or miss (even the "standard wisdom" of VISA being worse off than Mastercard was not true for me -- both didn't work for smartex, had to get a digital Mastercard debit card from Revolut)

Yeah I’m thankful I have a good variety of cards to use I haven’t tried an atm yet I opened a Schwab account a few months ago but also made sure to convert some with my primary bank before leaving just to have some for when I arrived hopefully I have no issues with the Schwab when I do need to get some

Cool that makes me happy to hear my past international travels either it was primarily cards or I knew a local that I could transfer money to and they withdrew it for me so this is the first time I’ve needed to withdraw cash somewhere. I looked at the revolut but my research seemed the Schwab fit what I needed best

Yeah I've used my Schwab in both Japan and Germany, no issues at all.
I like Revolut because I can lock in favorable exchange rates, but otherwise the Schwab will serve just fine
