#December 2023

Mjello! Tokyo from 3rd to 10th, although I'll be doing a trip to Hakone between 6-7th
November 27th to December 7th in Tokyo, down to hang out
Oh cool, I'm free on the 7th so, if you wanna organise something am keen
My tour starts on the 8th unfortunately and 7th is pretty much my only free day
I'll be on my way back to Tokyo from Hakone on the 7th, so if there's any afternoon plans, I'd be game
I was gonna go to Golden Gai in the evening on the 7th, so you're welcome to come
Happy to organise something for the day though as well @solemn raptor
Hell yeah, I'd been meaning to check out Golden Gai SOMETIME
Though I reckon I will be out of my hotel by 11 haha. I'd be arriving on the 6th at about 10PM
No Jetlag thankfully
Awesome, I'm planning to head there around 7 since its half hour from my Hotel
Sounds good! I'll write it into my itinerary then 😄
Aaayyy, I'm gonna be in Akihabara from the 7th to 10th
The odds haha
in the remm hotel (which is right on top of Akiba station)
I'll be in Dormy Inn
Fancy that!
I actually looked at Remm but Dormy Inn was cheaper per night
Dormy just straight up looks nicer, damn
Ah, no wonder Dormy didn't show up in my searches when I booked hotel. No checkin on the 7th for them
Dunno, just says that saturday is check-out only hah
Probably all booked on the 7th yeah
7th is Thursday?
I... I don't know why I said Saturday
All good haha
Well, we'd be like 10 mins away from each other anyway
So if ya keen to meet at the station we can do that
And then just head to golden gai
Sounds grand!
The UK here, so I'll have nasty jetlag on the first day, but I already accounted for that
Assuming you're also a guy as well?
Yupup
Haha, I think most people are in this discord
M27 to be specific

Got a mate who is 26
How long did you say you were in Japan for?
You mentioned you're coming back from Hakone
Landing the morning of Dec 3rd and leaving around noon 10th
Thats a pretty short trip
First solo trip, so didn't want to do something too drastic
Cool cool, my flight is at 3pm so it makes it a bit harder lol
Ahaha fair enough, Yeah first solo here too
Ah okay no worries.
Hmm, I'd be keen to come out at about 9 and do something in the morning then with ya
Go visit Hachiko or something or go to Bic/Yodabashi etc
And then head back when you leave for your flight and meet up with Kasoun later after I take a nap 😄
That basicaly plans out the 7th for me haha

I strangely have nothing for the 7th planned either except go to hotel and wander Akihabara, then you in the eve
I'm gonna need that nap haha, if I come out at 9, head back to the hotel around 1 before Cough's flight, have lunch, and get a couple of hours in before leaving at 7 to get pissed
Bring about 8,000JPY or so for Golden Gai. Should be enough to visit a few bars etc
Sounds like a fun time. I'm not much of a drinker or pub-goer, but something about Japan just makes me want to down a few beers and highballs
Yeah same, I really wanna check out Death Match in Hell
Should go there last though after we check out the area
Finish the night in there
I tend to carry between 10.000-20.000y on me when possible, so sounds good 😄
Can't say I've heard of it, but sure! Drag me into the club scene, fam
But make sure we head back to Aki around 11 since trains end at midnight, bet better if we stuck together if we're both drinking
Heavy metal/ horror movie themed bar
Ah! You lose me at horror, and I'm not much fan of heavy metal, but I'll pop in for a few drinks so we don't leave each other halfbaked 😄
Haha fair, yeah the owner speaks English and all items on the menu are 666 JPY
Plus no cover charge bs etc
So its a good bar to finish of the night I reckon, have a chat to the owner for an hour or whatever, meet some locals and just chill

There's a few other bars that are pretty chill I wanna check out too after watching some Youtube vids on the place
But they are a little on the pricy side
Thats why I like Death Match where everything is the same price, so we can just pop in for like two asahi beers haha
I'll be along for the ride! I'm a mouse-y guy when it comes to socials, but I'm trying to improve at least, just need that push
What better way than to get dragged into a bar!?
I'm the same, but get me drunk and I'm an aussie bogan at heart 😄
If we leave Akihabara station at 7, we should get to Shinjuku at 7:30 and then like a 10 min walk to golden gai
So we got about 4 hours to kill till 11 when we would have to be thinking of leaving
Depends on entirely how drunk we are and you as well if you wanted to head off earlier
I get told I'm a chatty drunk, so hell yeah, same
Also you must keep your passport on you at all time, so I recommed like a belt strap where you can store the cash too
It's aight, I'm thinking of just bringing my camera waistbag
Just dump everything I need in there
The RFID Travel Money Belt by Boxiki Travel is the ultimate theft protection and security accessory for safe travel Keeps your most important items safe and organized including passport tickets cash credit cards receipts and phone Two outer pockets and one hidden pocket of this anti theft fanny p...
I was gonna use this
Since then I dont gotta carry another bag
If you got a good phone, you probably dont need to bring a camera
But your camera is probably pretty good
Oh it's nothing big or anything, just a GoPro hah. My phone isn't the best camera, but it's not too shabby
Not that I was gonna record anything in Golden Gai really, was mostly just as an alternative to a daypack, which'll be in view all the time
That sounds fun! I can get some last minute things too
Oh, also, if anyone's around any of my days in Tokyo and want to go for shabu shabu let me know and we can figure something and someplace out 😄
I'm in Tokyo from 3rd to 23rd of December
I'll be around Tokyo for the whole month
I'd be free on the 22nd
I leave Tokyo on the 31st unfortunately, hope your trip is good though!
I'll have a few days free between 24th and 31st. Thinking of doing some Aquariams
I’ll be in Tokyo at that time, would you like to hang out?
Haven't decided entirely what to do in Tokyo yet, because I was just there this summer + have some friends living there so will also hang with them. But I still have some touristy stuff we could do together
Perhaps we could compare what you want to do with my "remaining" list later in November-ish 🙂
Yea sure, I’ll be there late december/early january
Ill be coming in on the 28th and leaving Jan 13th if anyone wants to meetup. Just saw this posting
Hello, Me and 5 friends (all 19 years old from Australia) are going to be in Osaka from 13th-20th, 20-24 Nagano, 25-29 Tokyo and 29-3 Niseko/Rusutsu. If anyone wants to meet with us or got some events to reccommend, feel free to shoot me a message
Ah, unfortunately I'm there early December hah
Yooo! I’m gonna be hoping and bopping all over the place, but here is my list for y’all
December 1+2 Tokyo
December 3-5 Fukuoka
December 6-9 Tottori
December 11+12 Kobe
December 15-18 Kyoto
December 23/24 Kamakura/Enoshima
Would love to connect with peeps as passionate for this country as I am, I’m sure it’ll be mad cool and a great time
I’ll be in Tokyo November 29-December 3 if you want to connect
Yooooo bet! Anything you want to do in Tokyo? We can go places
Depends on what day, I’ve got a lot of things planned
Also I’m 30 M, just a heads up
23, I planned on going to Akihabara the 29th just for a whole day anime/manga shopping
gonna try to get ghibli museum tickets too for any day
I’d recommend trying to get those tickets now, I’ve heard they sell out like 3 months in advance
Sounds like a good time
Yes! I’ve been keeping an eye out but on their website, they go out the 10th of each month. Since I’m going in November, I should be able to purchase/find some tickets Nov 10th
I’m also debating about going to Disney sea or universal studios. Not so sure yet
Gotcha I can let you know my schedule separately if you’d like, I think best days to connect the 30th, 1st and especially 2nd
Yeah I imagined! And yeah you can reach out to me
I thought they went on sale on the 10th every month for the following month
oh, someone just wrote that, haha
You should check at exactly 10am, I was in a queue a few months ago and missed it cus I was a couple of hours late
That’s wild, that’s what I recall it being sold out super fast
Is it 10am Japan time or what? 👀 so I keep an eye out
yeah
that's why I missed it, it was like 2am UK time, haha
Oh nawr 😭 I’m so sorry
But thanks for the tip, I might have a shot to get a ticket since that’s 8pm CST time
I'm starting to think I should've come end of year or late November at this rate with the amount of people coming at those dates instead haha
I would’ve wanted to go in March bc of my bday and cherry blossoms but I ended up finding a cheap nonstop flight to Tokyo for late November
Hey bro, we can still meet up as initially planned haha
But yeah lots of people coming before Xmas
Oh yeah no we totally still are, I was just lamenting a bit hah
Everything is already booked and paid for after all
It's fine, I'll have more chances and it wasn't too big of a deal
You’re good, any time of year is the best time of year to go to Japan. Why? Because you’ll be in JAPAN 🤩
Anyone going to other places besides Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka during their travels?
AMEN! Would've just been awesome to run into travelers 😄
Doing Hakone for this trip. My next solo trip is probably gonna be Lake Biwa/Lake Kawaguchi/Sendai-ish-area
When did you go
First ever trip was back in April, doing 3rd --> 10th of Dec in Tokyo for my currently planned one
Ah and you didn’t run into anyone in April? Surprising as that’s cherry blossom season
Probs not gonna see you as I head out of Tokyo December 3rd then work my way back to Tokyo over 2.5 weeks. I’m sure peeps in this group can connect though
To be fair, back in April I didn't know about this discord, but we did run into an Australian dude on his first trip too randomly at a yakiniku place 😄
All good fam! Hope you have a great trip!
I just learned about this discord for this trip happy to know people just as pumped for Japan as I am
Hello everyone, my name is Tom (M 25) from Germany and I am currently planning my second trip to Japan in December. I speak English, a little Japanese and German as my native language. Since I'm going on this trip alone and it will most likely be 2 or 3 weeks, I've also thought about what I can do to avoid being too lonely. So I started looking and ended up here. On my first trip to Japan one of my best friends accompanied me and we visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. I will be taking this trip alone and would be very happy if a meeting in Tokyo were actually possible. When the Monthly Meetup thread for December is created, I will also put out a post that has a fixed date and introduces me and my personality a bit so that you can get a better impression of me. That should be enough for now 😄
This is inspiring, looking forward to connecting with you all!
Awesome dude, welcome to the chat. I’m super pumped as well about Japan, went for my first time in 2018 3 weeks with 2 friends.
This time I’m going alone for a full month and super pumped. We can deff connect if our schedules and timing match up
I’m 30 M by the way @median mural
@gleaming yacht sound's great to me 😄
that will be alright, my best buddy was 28 at the time, so no worries
Cool man, got your dates of when you’ll be visiting?
like a said i'm still planning my trip right know, if i have fixed dates, i'll make a post on the official Monthly Meetup thread for December
Solid, if you need any advice on stuff let me know. I’ve been Japlanning since June this year, super pumped
I‘m on the right in the picture, a homage from the anime ,,The Quintessential quintuplets'' xD The Show was pretty based but definetly had to capture this iconic moment 😂
Oh god, Kiyomizu-dera terrified me. Beautiful as hell, but my phobia did not do well with a slightly angled wooden structure and a large drop haha. Looking dope though!
at least that looks like Kiyomizu-dera from a quick glance
yeah it is the Kiyomizu Dera Shrine
The weather in December is just great and really played along that day
Dope! Giving me good hope for the weather when I'm going to Hakone. Hopefully I can snap some good shots of Fuji from the lake
I keep my fingers crossed for you 😄
@gleaming yacht btw , did you allready planed you‘re howl trip for a full month ?! And where are you from
Yup! I’m from NYC and I only have 1 day left of hotels to book
Everything else is set with all days having at least 1-3 activities scheduled
Damn that’s crazy. What are you planing to do and wich prefectures do wanna visit and how much money did you spend on the Accommodations and flight. If that’s a privat thing with the money I get it 😅 I‘m just curies
I havent kept track of money I've spent so far, but im going all out for this trip. Some days I am gonna be in capsule hotels and hostels, then in kyoto Im staying in ryokans for 5 nights and later staying at the oldest hotel in the world which is pricy as well
Flight was 1450 for me
the capsules and hostels are to balance out the facier stays (i forgot a fancy stay is in a gassho zukuri - basically old japanese farm house)
so aprox roughly 60/70 a night? not sure though so most places Im staying are like 15-30 a night while others are like 120-300 a night
Im planning to do a ton of cool things: go on a whirlpool cruise, paraglide in sand, go to a penguin bar, visit bonsai museums and fancy gardens, do traditional japanese tie dye swim with dolphins, etc. If you want more details about my trip just DM me.
Keep in mind, this is my second trip to Japan so my trip this time around is more getting out of tokyo and kyoto and exploring the rest of the country
Sounds good. I also put a lot into the Airbnb in Kyoto on my first trip to Japan. But it was 100% worth it. But I have to say, at the moment I wouldn't necessarily travel the countryside alone because my Japanese isn't that good yet. The larger cities wouldn't be a problem.
Im in a Japanese 102 class, if you know some basics, you can get around. When I went in 2018 and we were in hokkaido on our own, with my limited japanese I was still able to connect with people in different ways, asking for directions, ordering food, etc. If you learn a little bit, it goes a long way
Here are a few pictures from the Airbnb in Kyoto
Dont feel like you have to stay to the big 3 (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka) theres way more out there that makes japan amazing that you can see and sometimes for even cheaper
oh my god that looks so niiiiiiiiice
You found a good spot
100%
Got a name for the spot?
This was one of the few Airbnb's that had a 4.99 star rating from over 300 reviews. Just a dream
Let me check
Give me a few min
Is it allowed to post links direct from Airbnb ?!
Hope so
You can post whatever links you want as long as it isn't to something illegal, haha
There you go
But this place is booked out for months xD
A True Gem in Kyoto
A bit far from the city center but i rented E-Bikes for the stay there so no problem
But the prices have also increased again. But that was clear
I was about to say it's a bit out of the way, but if you're fine with that + have E-Bikes, who cares 😄
My ryokan is closer to the city but in that area
thats cool, looks like a nice place to have for yourself
20min bike ride ( With E-BIKES ) and you‘re in the center
But if you've been cycling all day, this wooden bathtub is simply divine
Hey Yall: Im doing this event on December 2nd, if anyone wants to join should be pretty great
During our Tuna Cutting Show Tour, you will be able to see a tuna cut in a traditional Japanese way right in front of you. We will explain how the tuna is cut and tell you stories about tuna, Sushi, and Japanese food culture. After the tuna cutting show, you will be able to eat fresh tuna sashimi, tuna sushi, and a variety of tuna dishes along w...
Interested in the 29-3 Niseko/Rusutsu, do you plan on skiing/snowboarding during that time?
your telling me thats an airbnb not an onsen or ryokan. Doubtful but would like to see more evidence.
@civic geode Scroll a bit up, I even posted the official Airbnb link 😅
If it should ever be free, a 100% recommendation goes out
Anyone doing Okinawa?
ill be around tokyo from 21st till the 5th of jan if anyone would be up for it i would love to find some people to have a drink and chill even more so on the 29th i would love to hangout with some people on my birthday
I'll be free Xmas day if you wanna go drinking?
Will be in Nakano
I can do the 29th too
Cool that would be great 👍
I've got no clue if shits open then haha
We'll have to check
But best bet we go to Golden Gai, the 29th might be better for that
Just added to keep in touch!
I think it is worst case we could hit the konbini and just wander
Where abouts are you staying?
Shinjuku
Yo Christmas Day y’all should join in enoshima for a full spa day
hi all! Will be in Tokyo from December 4-18 as my flight back is early morning on Dec 19.
My itinerary is pretty much chill as I'll work remotely a bit early mornings then go out after breakfast. Let me know who's down for izakayas. I'll be staying around the Shinjuku sanchome areas
I'll be in Tokyo for all of that time too
Yeah we'll be skiing 30th-2nd so 4 days
In terms of getting around Niseko, would you recommend we get a car rental or do you think we can completely rely on shuttles/taxis even though its over the new year period
I'm going to shibuya sky and nintendo tokyo on December 1st if yall want to join
Always down to try meeting new people. I’m there 3rd-10th, with a stop in Hakone 6th-7th
Awesome! Will reach out again once near my travel dates. I arrive at Haneda on Dec 4 in the morning
Hi all, I will be in Japan from 29th December 2023 to 8th Jan 2024. Nothing planned yet except for comiket and lucky bag shopping
oh man, send those new year pics!!! new year is non-negotiable for me as I spend it with the fam. maybe I'll bring em over to Japan for new year. hehe
I'm gonna be on the plane for new year
On my way home
Omage and i will be in Osaka from 12/20-12/25, and Tokyo from 12/25-1/1 🙂
we're hitting up Comiket too. good luck! 😄
i'm waiting for the tickets to go on sale online
Anyone in Tokyo Dec 1st? Traveling in Nov and flying back on Dec 2nd, down for most things
Still haven't planned an itinerary out in Tokyo other than akihabara on the 26th for the Sunday experience
Well, if you are able to buy the wrist band in person before the event, I would recommend that over online.
I’m in Tokyo from Nov 29th to Dec 7th if you wanna hang
What’s the Sunday experience in Akihabara?
To my understanding the roads are closed and its supposed to be really fun walking around
Sounds good, anything specific? Around where will you be staying?
I’ll be staying in a hotel close to Kanda station, just a stop away from Akihabara
I don’t really have much planned, just a gist of what districts I want to look at
Hbu?
About the same tbh
Don't even have all the wards or areas I wanna visit planned out, only a couple places I wanna visit, akihabara, I'll have more concrete plans in like a week or two as I'm still finalizing hotels and my exact travel plan
Will they go on sale in person? I went to Comiket last year and I had to buy the tickets online
Oh yeah totally get you, lmk if you end up wanting to see if there’s any places we might both wanna go
Sure, sounds good
Not sure if the etiquette is to talk here or pm but shoot me a message once you have plans or stuff you'd like you or I'll do the same in a week or two once I have concrete plans
I bought mine in akihabara and I also ordered online in august. I found out that if you ordered online you have to queue twice, one for wristband the other to enter the Tokyo big sight. I really didn’t want to sweat more than necessary in the summer heat.
Generally you can buy at animate
Oh, nice! I didn't know you could buy them in person now. I'll buy mine in person then. There is no longer an attendee limit, correct?
When i last attended, it was restricted to something like 110K
Covid restrictions were still a thing in 2022
I usually check twitterx for information on stock
I’ll be in Tokyo December 1+2nd
Look out for animate in Osaka
any plans for 1st?
No clue what I wanna do during the day but I'll wanna go out and have some fun on my last night
Yes many 😆 you’re more than welcome to join
DM me?
Can do
@robust sequoia we should buy our Comiket tickets in Japan
thank you for showing the pictures
man, it's gonna be so crowded
the last non-restricted Comiket i went to was in 2019, when we had an attendance of 750,000
Anyone gonna be in Japan/near Kamakura December 23rd?
Unfortunately I'll already be long gone. Maybe I'll spend Christmas and New Year's in Japan another time
To my understanding there's not much to do on Christmas, its more of a family/couples day over there
Oh for sure, I'd just spend it cooped up in a hotspring probably
Can do that any day lol, any cheaper day that is cause I assume stuff would still be more expensive around Christmas there as all the locals go out or whatnot
It's true! It's why I didn't do through Christmas and New Year's this year 😄
You think spas will be more expensive that day?
yeah, i went to winter 2019 comiket, went last year as well, i do miss the 4-day one vs 2-day one
I also miss the 4 day Comiket. I hope they go back to that format one day
The wholesome parts of comiket are the cosplay and corporate areas.
Don’t bring underage children to the doujinshi halls
I'm meeting up with my old homestay who i havent seen in 7 years. Dont know what we're gonna do but sure we'll figure something out
Who’s gonna be in Tokyo December 1st? I got a great idea for a meetup/event at night
Not until the 3rd for me unfortunately
I have now planned my trip, I will arrive at HND airport on December 2nd at 10:30. Will stay in Tokyo until December 15th. I booked a luxury Airbnb 5min train ride from Akihabra Station. I'm open to pretty much anything, personally I would like to go partying in Tokyo or do a side trip to Golden Guy, but only with people who I feel comfortable with.
Btw: If you would like to meet in Akihabara, just write me a DM. I'm always available for Akiba 😄
What’s the idea?
Go to an art gallery, then dinner and a couple bars after
If you’re interested DM me
Can’t dm you but I’m interested
Sent a friend request, that should fix the DMing
YOOOOO, I'm flying into NRT on the very same day!
I'll probably be in Shinjuku around 12PM, and can totally swing by Akihabara on the 'dealing with jetlag' day, if you fancy doing the same 😄
@potent crescent Sounds great,
By the time I've picked up my suitcase, Mobil Pocket wifi and withdrawn money, I think it'll be almost 12. I won't be able to check in until 3 p.m. anyway, so I'll probably store my suitcases in a locker at Akihabra Station for a few hours . If the jet lag doesn't kick in too much, then definitely.
12h45min flight hell yeah xD
Fancy! I’ll store my stuff at the hotel before checkin and we can meet up for chill times
That’s not to say it’s the only day I’m up for chilling, but it’s the first day at least haha
I think we should take it easy on the first day. We have a few days there 😉
I say that now and when I'm in Akiba, the hormones go completely crazy again xD
But of course it would be great to meet a few people in person on the first day as a solo traveler. If everything goes well, we can definitely stay in touch 😄
Know the feel man
I’m a fucking dumbass. I’m flying out on the 2nd but won’t land till the 3rd. I’m sorry for getting your hopes up with my dumbfuckery lmao
Bruh
You owe them a free dinner 😄
I owe them a drink. Kill me now
I was just so excited about going I forgot it takes 17hrs to fly there
Forgive meeee
All good, don’t worry we can still meet up another day
I’ll owe you a beer or something when we do hah
Sounds Great to me 😄
Nov 15th to the 6th.half in Tokyo half in the Osaka area
28m. Gonna arrive in Tokyo on November 28th and leaving from Tokyo on December 8th. Don’t really have concrete plans yet so down for whatever.
Ayyyy I’m in Tokyo Nov 27th to Dec 7th
Nice to see people around in Tokyo in early December instead of end of December
Nice! You made any plans yet? Still working on my itinerary 😜
Not yet lol just waiting for some ghibli tickets to come out,I’ll plan the rest hbu?
I'm also waiting. Ghibli museum I presume? What days are you planning on going?
Oh nice, I just hope any day between Nov 27th to Dec 6th. I would prefer either the 30th or the 1st 😭 hbu?
Yeah, I'll be shooting for Nov. 25th most likely.
Wow - so many people in November / December.
I will be in Tokyo for work and a music festival from the 2nd to 10th of Dec.
Heading to Kyoto for work from the 10th to 17th of Dec before going back to Tokyo (or maybe staying in Kamakura because I like it lol) until the 21st.
Awww man 😭 I hope we both are able to get some ghibli museum tickets though. You got anything planned while in Tokyo? We can meet up some other time elsewhere
I JUST bought tickets to Ghibli park like 30 minutes ago thank for to another user on here "hjf" tipping me off to them being on sale...
That said, I not planning on staying in Tokyo long when I return to Tokyo (I'm in Tokyo RN)
But what are you travel dates, @solemn raptor?
Wait they’re selling tickets already?
I arrive the 26th Nov and go back the 7th
This is EXACTLY what I proclaimed to hjf when he told me about the tickets
Dudeeeee where did you buy them? 😭 helpppp 😂 😭
Word... yeah, we'll probably miss eachother then... I've already spent 3 weeks in Tokyo
indeed, sir
I am planning touring the Hokuriku region when I return to the main island of Japan
@solemn raptor that means, I'll likely bounce from Tokyo the evening of the 25th right after I go to Ghibli museum. (Assuming I am able to get tickets tmrw)
I’ll be in Kyoto from night of the 14-19th, want to connect?
Hey, for sure !
I purchased a ticket for Ghibli park.
@solemn raptor did U figure it out? Maybe it's because I'm a day ahead in Japan?
Yeah I figure it out! Thanks @visual parcel
Ok. Good. NP, buddy.
Also no concrete plans yet haha. I wanna visit some camera shops in Tokyo and thinking about spending a day or two around one of the lakes near Mt Fuji.
Gotcha! I’m gonna be looking at electronics like game consoles in Akihabara
nice, me and my mates are spending are spending christmas eve/christmas morning next to mt fuji
What’s your game plan then? I’m scheduled for Kamakura and Enoshima those days, but curious what you’ll be up to
Well we spend 4 Days in Hakuba skiing, then go to Fuji (Fujikawaguchiko) to stay for 1 night and then we go on to tokyo for 5 days before going up to Hokkaido for more skiing
at Fuji theres this rollercoaster park called Fuji-Q Highland
looks really good
but unfortunately it will most likely be closed as it closes whenever its below freezing or if theres any precipitation
So the 24th for you is Fujikawaguchiko and 25 is heading to tokyo?
yeah
personally i just wanted to be in tokyo over those 2 days but my mates insisted we stay near Fuji because they're hoping for clear skies and a good view lol
@toxic cosmos Ouff id tag along for the skiing. When are you heading to Hakuba? 21st? I went in 2019 and had planned only two days. Got to nagano way too late on first day. Got to hakuba on the second day but the resort was closed because of high winds 😭
And yeah I brought my gear all the way from Canada for 0 pow 🫠
yeah we'll be in Hakuba from 20th-24th, you're welcome to tag along but fair warning we have 4 beginners within the group 😂 , then me and my other mate are probably intermediate and we'll slowly be working our way up to black runs
Ah im flying out on the 21st sadly 😟 I hope you’ll get lucky with the snow but im sure you’ll have tons of fun anyways ! Enjoy !
Heyyy...I'm Glad i found this meetup
I didn't read all of this happening
FYI I'm Visiting japan for 15-17 hrs on 11th December...
I'm very much will be down to meetup with y'all if i can possibily attend...
Would be cool, I’ll be in Kobe 😅 you’ll have to visit another time, absolutely worth the trip
Unfortunately, I'll already be landing back in LHR on the 11th 😦
Ouch....So Will there be anyone on 11th Dec - 12th Dec ?
December people here on the 14th, you have the chance to see the most spectacular gig

All tickets are sold out at the official website. Maybe there would be some resell tickets on the auction site.

Best of luck my friend!
Thanks, will look to start the job searching journey on monday and take this time to try to relax for a bit.
Good healthy outlook to have. Hope you land something quick and they’ll honour your vacation plans 😄
anyone here going to Comiket? i was wondering if you plan to buy your tickets in Japan or online
Afaik Comiket sells out pretty fast, so you'd need to do it online, tickets won't be sold at the venue. As for WHEN, I don't know.
This is all I got for you. Early Nov
yea i am
you can either buy online or from a participating vendor before the event
if you buy onsite its only for the afternoon entry
if u buy online, you have t o Q for the wristband then join another Q for entry
Hi, I am in Tokyo from Dec 30 - Jan 1st. Also a first time traveller. Let me know if you want to catchup sometime.
Hello there. Looks like there is a growing number of ppl over the new year.
Hello, I am travelling solo to Japan this December..
Here's my Itinerary:
- Dec 16 - Dec 24 Hokkaido (Sapporo, Rusutsu, Otaru, Biei, Noboribetsu)
- Dec 25 - Dec 27 Kyoto
- Dec 28 - Dec 30 Osaka
- Dec 30 - Jan 1 Tokyo.
Let me know if have any recommendations on events, or if you are up for a quick catch-up or join me for the trip..
keep in mind, New Years is a major holiday in Japan
similar to Christmas in the West
so a lot of shops and restaurants are closed on both NYE and New Years day
Yeah Dec 30-Jan 1 is a weird time to be in Tokyo, nothing will be open. And the Shinkansens on the 30th will be VERY crowded
You should still be able to get a seat going Osaka to Tokyo as most people go the other way (reserve that seat ASAP), but the stations will be absolutely rammed full of people
Anyone going to universal on dec 4th? 😛
Unfortunately not, pure Tokyo trip for me
My plan for 1st Jan is to do lucky bag shopping or find sale. How doable is that?
I believe you can buy tickets from anime stores in Japan, no? I saw that on the FB post from Comiket
I'm going at this time for Comiket 😆
This might very well be true. Makes sense, but it should probably still be ahead of time 😄
When should I reserve the train seats?
I planned to visit Tokyo from Kyoto on 30th of Dec, so would it be possible for me to reserve the seats on 17th Dec?
You can do so from 10am JST one month beforehand
You can do it online too
https://smart-ex.jp/en/index.php
Thanks..
I planned using JR Pass, which I will be activating the on 17th Dec.. Is it possible to show the JR Pass later?
Reserving with the JR Pass has to be done at a ticket office, not online
if you bought from a licensed reseller
If you bought direct from JR (https://japanrailpass.net/) you can reserve online before arriving in Japan
日本観光になくてはならないJAPAN RAIL PASSは、JRグループ6社が共同して提供するパスです。
Okay, I purchased mine from klook.com. Guess I am stuck with offline reservations 😓
Hello everyone,
Do you have any suggestions/recommendations on the Winter Cloth Rental in Tokyo? I am planning to visit Hokkaido from mid December to Christmas - which will be having temperature in range of -2°C to -8°C.
Tbh if you are traveling in December, you had no choice but to purchase from a third party seller if you wanted the old price
You can only buy one month in advance from the official site
If you purchase from the official site, it'll be at the new 50000 yen price

Sharing the Dec half of my trip
Dec 1-3 Kobe
Dec 4 Hiroshima
Dec 5 Tokyo
Dec 6th fly home
btw does Osaka do a Christmas market like Tokyo does at Hibiya park or Yokohama at the Red Bricks area?
didn't realize how pricey the accomodations near niseko is, maybe i should have booked earlier 🥲
yeah me and my friends booked 6 months ago and it was still pricey then
Hey December Gang!
@potent crescent request here is the google sheet for you guys 🙂

Put your info on the main sheet.
Add some detail on the Calendar sheet about where you'll be on that day so people who will be around at the same time can see.
The Calendar_Overview tells you who is travelling during what period, no detail.
Potential meetups/event: fill in if you're organising something ˆˆ
Appreciate you!
your december info is a bit wonk
it says you're leaving on 2 but you've got dates for 12-15
I was about to say, it was probably just holdover from November to show how it's filled out
Turns out I was correct 😄
yeah I figured as much but I don't trust my gut sometimes
Trusting my gut got me fat, smh
Anyone here going to some exotic places? Not Tokyo Osaka Kyoto?
Not for this next trip of mine, but the one after I’m definitely going outside that area
Define exotic 🤔
Tobi something something? :3
Okinawa?
@lone phoenix bruh, it’s NNN and you mention Tobita …. XD
Welp at least it’s Exotic :’D
I'll write myself in the google sheet for Dec later. But for me it will also be a pure Tokyo vacation/trip.
Okinawa as well
I might do Hiroshima
hello December people 👋
Hi! Sorry, I'm new to discord and idk how to get the "December role"..I'm also going to Japan in December
Tap December
ooooh thank you
I'll repost my post in the introductions channel about my December plans! Hi everyone, I'm Iris. I live the Bay Area in California. I've been to Japan a few times, including a solo trip in July of 2018, which was the last time I was in Japan! I'm going again in December after snagging a 14-day JR Pass before the price hike. Part of the trip will be solo, from December 10th to about the 23rd, depending on when I'll meet up with my sister. I speak Japanese at an intermediate level, but also speak some French, Spanish. Native speaker of English and Mandarin. I'm joining the discord primarily because I'll be spending December 12th-16th exploring the Niseko area with my IKON ski pass and looking for other folks who want to be ski buddies. I'm a beginner-to-intermediate skiier so don't feel that great about solo skiing yet, but also hoping to meet up with folks and plan some trips along Sapporo-->Tokyo after the 16th until I meet up with my sister.
I would have loved to go to Okinawa for this upcoming trip. Since my trip in December is mainly solo with meeting friends throughout, I want my first time to Okinawa to be with friends 🙂
Where else will you be besides hokkaido and tokyo, I'm visiting 14 cities/towns during my month long trip maybe we can connect
Anyone planning on skiing in Niseko from 19-24th range?
I’ll be there on Dec 20-22, if things goes to plan
Aight cool, see you there if dates align somehow maybe
Still gotta figure out accommodations, some seem very remote
Hello, all I'm a 26-year-old male Australian who loves music, surfing, and skating will arrive in Tokyo on the 29th of November, and stay until the 8th of December before heading to Hokkaido for the winter season as a backcountry tour guide if anybody wants to hangout while in Tokyo or Hoakkaido lemme know! be awesome to go to some bars or gigs, skate spots and I am going to head to the new wave pool south of tokyo at some point so if any keen surfers wanna join me on that venture be cool.
Thanks friends love yall ❤️
Ill also be in Niseko then! 🙂
I will be spending my last few days om tokyo (Nov 30th-Dec 3rd) and would lilke to meet up!
I unfortunately will be landing the 3rd so likely won’t be able to do much more than late lunch or dinner hah
Hey Marcy, that would be great, let's meet up! Although I might be a disappointing pal because I don't do backcountry and am just a beginner skiier haha, but down to hang out for brewskis
I don't really have a solid plan yet! I think I am flexible for where to stop as I come back from Sapporo to Tokyo. After the 23rd I'll be with my sister though so probably won't have time to meet up but happy to hang in Tokyo/Hokkaido
Shikoku
Hiroshima

thanks habo, ill look into it!
Okay, I'll bite. Any shows in the Tokyo area 3rd-9th you'd recommend?
Not yet
I’ll have some soon
Keep me in the loop
Woah! When are you going to obuse?
I wanted to take the bullet train out for a day trip for one of my Tokyo days
When are your Tokyo days
Ah shoot you’re going in November?
Funny, I’ll be in obuse afternoon of December 21st till morning of December 22nd
Would have been cool to meet up
For sure
Will land on dec 1 and stay till 8.
Landing nomveber 30th staying till 16th
my brother and I will be keen to do stuff in tokyo on the 5th/6th
Going pub crawling on the 7th if keen to join us?
Will be in Japan between 17th dec and 5th Jan. I’d be up to hangout or explore places or just have a couple drinks at the bar
Also, just a reminder that Xiao was awesome enough to lend us a template so we can check up on when people are available! Fill it out if you can, make some plans 😄
Any lgbt member who will be around Dec 1 - 8?
Lol no one cares if ya lgbt dude. Dont need to announce it
I mean sorta? I wouldn't consider myself part of the broader LGBT community, but I guess I count as lgb. I'm just vibing.
I don’t know man, when ppl say those words I only think they want to find people of similar groups and I avoid them.
It's true, it's why I never bother to ask for it or pronounce it specifically, I'm just just here to chill
But to each their own, maybe they just wanted to hang with specific peeps
As a bi guy its true. Its so frustrating. They create their own echo chamber pretty much. Like no one cares its 2023. If you're chill, ya chill. Ya sexuality doesnt bother me unless you try to preach some bs about it
It can’t be their only defining trait right? Right? Right?
Such a mood. I avoid anyone that makes it their whole ordeal
I only believe in 2 genders and they/them is stupid but I'll still respect it as far as that tbh
Just be chill 😄
Anyway I dont know if you guys can see this but if you want a soundtrack while walking across Shibuya at night https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1iphPB8Rrqvq6qEF60gxso?si=IlyhVDM7T26XBp15SnobqQ
Am constantly adding to it
It matters. They might want to go to Shinjuku 2-chome or other gay spots together
Only matters if its your personality. If you wanna go to gay spots, that should be the question to ask since its a bit more specific
People still care. I totally understand the need to see if a random group you're gonna hang out with is lgbt friendly
Filled it 🙂
I'll be there until Dec 1st!
See you around. Ill be landing afternoon.
I mean I'll be there until Dec 3rd.
If you want to meet up im happy too
Guess who decided to say f it and take my vacation despite being laid off. I can afford it and dont want to wait for it anymore. I planned far in advance and saved for it over several years to have been previous plans ruined by covid. Im back in YES.
Cant wait ssoo looking forward to it. Its been too long.
I've only been waiting 6 months, but I can't wait for mine either. I'll share in your hype.
50 days left for me
23 days for meeee
6 years for me. I get nostalgia watching videos like Paolos
27 days for me
I love watching Japan videos, and seeing them walk around places I've been. It's a lovely feeling going "I'VE BEEN THERE, OH MY GOD"
Like how one of Paolo's recent hidden food gems videos he put in a shop me and my friends would walk past every day when we were in Tokyo
Oh awesome,. I notice he's stopped promoting his merch constantly and just goes straight to the point video now
Thank god he did that, it was getting incredibly obnoxious
Of course, I'm not knocking it, he just did it to death
He also helps outs a lot of local buisnesses so I can appreciate him for that
Yeah fair
Some people have a hate boner for paolo but I cant see why. He does a lot for the local Japanese com
I dig his content, he's one of the better ones in my book.
Sometimes he comes off scripted but thats generally the point. I poitn people towards his Zebra channel if you wanna see more of himself
I like Paolo's content overall
his videos have high production value and are more entertaining then watching some jtuber doing a livestream walking around Asakusa, Akihabara, Shibuya, etc
but I don't take his "hidden gem" restaurant recommendations too seriously
since if you compare both their google and tablelog ratings, their not that high
Same, but I'm so exctited too. 21 days to go
26 days left for me
I’m over the moon to finally get to Japan: may all your soons turn into finally for all of us 😁
16 days till touchdown in Japan
I'm in Tokyo Dec 26 till Jan 2'nd 👋🏽
I'll be in Tokyo (Shibuya) from the 4th Dec to 18th Dec. I'll be my 5th trip and i'll be mostly taking it easy, shopping and instagramming (lol) during the day and visiting bars, shows and other fun activites during the night.
If anyones interested in tagging along, drop me a message.
Two of us are doing some drinking in Golden Gai and the surrounding areas the 7th
But that’s all I’ve heard of so far
Bump 👆
Feel free to take a look and fill it for potential meetups
nice spreadsheet. I've added my info. 🙂
I've now added myself to the Google mainsheet, hope to see you 😄

I think I might have done something to the spreadsheet when adding myself to it! Ahhh!
lol you broke it
did you touch tabs other than the main one ?
I think I fixed it
put your name and dates on the main tab only, it will populate on the calendar
welp it only fixed line 3 to 19 but line 2 is still broken
@potent crescent @lone phoenix do you guys have a link to the initial template ? not sure what broke the line 2 on calendar tab
Done did a fixing
how did you do it ?
One of my all-time favourite Google Sheets fixes: Delete and rewrite the exact same formula
and it works 😂
I KNOW, it makes me laugh every time haha
Sorry! I'm not very technically savvy as you can clearly tell.
Don't worry about it 😉 you can start filling line 20 on the main tab
@potent crescent I "froze" line 1 so it can still be visible when scrolling down
Not a bad idea tbh
@ashen moth ctrl+enter to add multiple lines on the same cell
Think I did it correctly.
looks good
have you done some research on what's open on the January 1st ? need of reservation for travelling from Osaka to Tokyo ?
I'm only there from Nov 23-December 3rd
oh my bad, thought it was december 23 january 3rd 😅
Bumping the spreadsheet 👆
Until we get a pin
Seems leaning towards first half
Yeeee, the latter half of December is mucho expensivo
I suspect a lot of folks rather be home with their families closer to Christmas/New Years tbh
I go home to my family every 4 years for Christmas ('cause we live in different countries), but yeah, that's probably a pretty good reason 😄
i love spending Christmas and NY in Japan 😄
Hey! I'm Taylor from Australia, just booked an impulsive solo trip to Japan for 3 weeks next month from 9/12-31/12. Probably staying in Shinjuku for the first week and heading down around Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe and all the way through to Hiroshima maybe
Awesome! But I’ll be in Osaka and Sapporo at that time unfortunately
Mine was Impulsing too but from 11/23 to 12/11
I won't be there anymore for Christmas but I love Christmas Im looking forward to see all the lightning and take pics

A spreadsheet with all visitors in December looking for meetup
Feel free to fill your dates
Thanks
There’s always comiket on the last 2 days of the year
Hi ! Ill be in Japan from 30th December to 13 of January !
Hey ! Would it be possible to add January to the calendar and calendar_overview tabs ? it seems the Jan gang also would like to use this doc
Anyone with some spreadsheet knowledge should be able to make a copy and modify it. I’ll do it if I have time but I’m currently travelling 🙂
I'll see if I can take the time at work today
Maybe just let them fill in same
since half of us staying during both months
But the owner can decide 😃
I SORTA worked on it, but I'm not very well-versed in XLookup so I've left it empty. I'm also not able to unprotect Calendar_Overview, so you'll have to do without
Do you know if there is anything interesting for new year’s eve?
To my knowledge, New Year for Japanese people is spending time with family, sending new year's cards, watching the first sunrise of the year, and otherwise just closed businesses from the 1st - 3rd of January
So I dunno if there's like... any big gatherings/public celebrations
There are plenty of parties around at clubs etc.
A bunch of livehouses I know do countdown gigs, it's so cool
There was a Shibuya countdown but it's being cancelled same as Halloween
Oh really? Leave it to habo to prove me wrong then 😄
Yeah most people will stay at home, but there are options for people who want to party
I assume you'll know which clubs and gigs wind up with parties closer to the date?
Not that I'll be here for it, but in case others want to ask
this and comiket are the only two major events I know about
My favourite venues Shimokitazawa Basement Bar & Three do a countdown event together
Hasn't been announced for this year yet but I'm sure it'll happen
Last year's was announced 2 weeks in advance
I mean i know there aren’t big celebrations for nee year’s eve but i thought maybe they had at least something big you can do idk
Ohright, Comiket is end of year isn't it
There are some countries who do fireworks but i think it’s not the case for Japan
again for folks who are unaware, New Years in Japan is very similar to Christmas in the West
almost everything is closed and people are on holiday
also the days leading up to it are hectic where people are out shopping, having fun, etc
Does anyone have any plans for New Year’s Eve? My friends and I are gonna be in Tokyo from December 28th to January 11th
Yeah #1153349897576255519 message
Probably comiket in the day then maybe see if anyone here plans anything for countdown
Hopefully I don’t get too tired after comiket
Is that near Tokyo? This is all our first time visiting so I’m not too sure how far we can expect to travel on public transportation
We’re staying in shinjuku
Yeah Shimokitazawa, it’s 2 stops from Shinjuku
Oh nice, thank you.
Are there any discount passes for Tokyo? Will be there for approx. 5 - 7 days
for transportation ? for attractions?
Transport
theres a 24/48/72hr metro pass
Good to know thanks
Those passes aren’t great because they’re only valid for one train operator
so you have to plan your day’s transport to only use lines operated by that operator
Restrictive and a hassle for meagre savings
Mm yeah I’m planning to be taking all sorts of buses to get to my destinations around Tokyo
Buses? You don't need to take them unless you are exploring the suburbs where train lines are fewer
Well pretty much all the points here is what I’m getting at
Ok yeah that's pretty suburban
What a unique itinerary
For more transport discussion please use #transportation , this channel is for organising meetups
Hey guys, anyone here who’s planning to go to the making of Harry Potter in Tokyo on the 19th?
Don’t really recommend the early entry ticket, especially if the group wants to go in as 1
Oh yeah for sure. I’m not going regardless, was just in case someone was interested
2 weeks to the hour until Im in Japan
Packing has begun and nearly finished, plenty of space
Being in Australia means literally everything Im taking can be packed now because theres about 28c difference in temperature 🤣
Hi Guys ! Will be in Tokyo from 1-6 dec.Do let me know if anyone wants to meet for drinks 🙂 Oh btw 21M
Hi all, Just looking at the meetup spreadsheet.
If anyone is interested in any of the following night time events, I can chuck in some activities/events, and suggest a day:
Izakaya and pub crawling (shibuya/shinjuku), Karaoke, illumination festivals, underground idol shows etc..
I'm definitely interested in izakayas (a good drink to finish off the day is very nice) and illumination festivals. I'm not much of a pub crawler, so just the one night I've already got planned is fine with me.
@pliant briar @soft thistle @jagged radish @fervent nacelle @ashen moth update the spreadsheet, seems like someone was messing with it
will be in japan from 16.12 until 05.01! if anyone is down for a drink or to grab some food feel free to message me 😄 20M

Hi guys! I'm Bill from Canada. I'm 22 and I in the Air Force. I'll be in Japan with this schedule:
Kyoto: December 1-2
Kyoto to Osaka: December 3
Osaka: December 4
Osaka, Day trip to Nara: December 5
Osaka, Day trip to Koyasan: December 6
Osaka (Might try to do a day trip to Nachi Falls): December 7
Osaka to Okayama: December 8
Okayama to Hiroshima: December 9
Hiroshima, Day trip to Miyajima: December 10
Hiroshima to Tokyo: December 11
Tokyo: December 12-14
I'd love to meet new people and explore the country and especially the night life with others. Lmk if ur down to link up 🙂
I'll got some crossover on my itinerary with when you'll be in Kyoto and Osaka. I'm travelling solo so would be keen to meet up with others. I'm not really a drinker/party type but still open to checking out the nightlife or grabbing food.

Good things there's version control
Hey I’d love to meet up! We don’t gotta do any drinking, it’d be a lot of fun to just explore the food and night life!
Also got some crossover.. and also not the best fan of party's but I'm up to meet up, some food , specially in Osaka haha.
Sounds good - should we arrange to reach out to each other a bit closer to the date to see what we're up to and potential to meet up?
let's grab a drink 😄
Sounds great
Definitely
Let's do it!
Hey y’all, just added some of my trip info to the list, hopefully some of us meet up for karaoke and bar hopping!
Anyone in Hokkaido between 28th and 2nd? I saw the spreadsheet and it looks like there aren’t many people who will be in Hokkaido for new year’s
FWIW there is a community of people who gather at Cape Soya on New Years
Just googled it, that’s the northern most tip of the country right? How far is it from Sapporo?
Tokyo 5th / 6th my brother and I will be organising a night out if anyone is around on those dates, have put it in the sheet also
Anyone have a decent source or recommendations for packing for cold weather sports?
Yooo I'm in Tokyo on the 5th
Nice 🙂 well we will organise drinks or dinner or something!
as in, what to pack or how to pack it
What to pack
Hey guys, anyone want to check out Shibuya sky at night on December 11th? We could hit up the Golden Gai or something after for food and drinks!
Hi Guys .My google storage wont allow me to edit the spreadsheet so I’m mentioning everything here instead.
I’m 21M and I’m from India .Would be in Japan from 1st to 14
Tokyo :1-6
Kyoto-6-10
Osaka-10-13
Tokyo-13-14
I am open for anything that remotely sounds fun .Also would be looking for someone who could possibly join me to visit Mt.Fuji on either of my days in Tokyo .
I’ll be arriving that afternoon so I might be able to join you assuming I’m not completely dead from the flight lol
anyone interested in attending the Joe Hisaishi concert in Kobe?
https://japancheapo.com/events/kobe-candlelight-concert-joe-hisaishi-studio-ghibli/20231221/
Haha that would be awesome! It should be kind of relaxing and a cool way to see the city at night if you're interested!
From what I see though, you'd want to get a ticket for it in advance. They're about $20 CAD and you can stay up there long enough. To be honest though, if no one's gonna go too, I'll probably just skip it and stick to exploring more night life on the ground instead
I bought a ticket for that on Dec 8 if anyone's keen to join. Unfortunately I'll already be home by the 11th!
Goretex jacket, goretex pants and then whatever you find warm for underneath tbh
Puffer jackets and stuff are a space scam when goretex will pretty much always be better, lighter, take less room, and is wearable in every day cold weather situations also
I’m going to toss my name on the spreadsheet but I’m down to meet up with people! First solo trip ever and I’m spending my birthday in Tokyo. I’ll be in Tokyo from the 7 through the 14
Nice! Definitely reccomend bar nemo in asakusa for solo travelers 🙂 the bartenders have great english and conversation
Also put my name in the spreadsheet and down to meetup with anyone for drinks or sightseeing I'm in Tokyo from the 5th till the 12 Dec
Hey guys! Tyson here. 26M from Hong Kong. Have been to Japan several times (both solo and group). Will be in Tokyo 23 Dec - 2 Jan and want to do meetup style of travelling this time. Just added my trip detail on the spreadsheet!
Where's the spreadsheet?
Nvm found it! Added my info
@vague sail I see ya'll are from Texas, I'm traveling with my GF who is from the DFW area and I'm from Oklahoma, we're in Tokyo December 16th through the 28th, we should meet up for drinks!
@solid dew I see you're also from texas 👀 you should come too
Hey where's this spreadsheet? I'm having a hard time finding it

Thanks!
Yeah! Def should try to meet up that first week in Tokyo
I think we're planning on going to Golden Gai on the night of Monday the 18th
If you're around the shinjuku area
where are people staying with when and where in regards to skiing?
yup! we're actually staying in shinjuku
Same here! We're at a hotel near gyoen
Will be staying at a hostel in Sapporo and be doing day trips to ski resorts in Hokkaido
This will be my first time skiing and snowboarding. If anyone is thinking of going to a ski resort and don’t mind teaching a newbie, let me know!
Absolutely!
@unreal osprey are you gonna take lessons?
I have no clue about winter sports. I’ll be in Hokkaido for 5 days, so I plan on learning to snowboard or ski or both. What about you?
And as for your question, I won’t be taking lessons since I’m only there for a short while
@unreal osprey be careful attempting to ski or snowboard without a lesson. That’s how you get hurt. And with out the lesson you’re going to fall a ton and get tired real quick. As someone attempted to teach themselves how to snow board multiple times. I would recommend picking either skiing or snowboarding and bare minimum do at least 2 days of lessons. This way you’ll have the basics down and be able to fully enjoy your time there.
I finally bit the bullet and did 3 days of lessons. I’ve been snowboarding every season ever since. And learned techniques that I wouldn’t have picked up on my own.
I’d definitely be down. We’ll be in town from December 29th to January 11th
Hi all, to get the events going I added a few activities to the spreadsheet that I'll be doing through my trip. Most are quite accessible.
Dec 5 - English Standup Comedy Show ”My Japanese Perspective” in Tokyo by Meshida
Dec 9 - Tokyo City (Oi Racecourse) Flea Market
Dec 9 - Shibuya Bar Crawl
Dec 14 - Tokyo Mega Illumination
Dec 16 - Shinjuku Bar Crawl
The 2 bar crawl events are just nights where we could potentially meetup, socialise and hop between venues as the night goes on.
That’s great advice man, appreciate it. I’ll look into that for sure. But do you have any idea on how much these lessons would cost?
I 100% agree. I recently did snowboarding up in Sapporo and booked in a full day (5hr) private lesson and am extremely thankful I did.
I found it incredibly helpful having someone continually work with me through the basics, such as balancing and recovering after a fall.
I know a few people that tried to 'wing it' and spent the whole day frustrated and on there back.
As for prices, it generally comes down to whether you participate in a group or whether it's with a private trainer.
For my particular ski resort the prices were as follows:
Group Lesson (only skiing) Y18,000 (half-day) to 21,000 (full-day)
Private Lessons can range from Y24,000 (half-day) to Y40,000 (full-day)
Also keep in mind not all resorts have english speaking teachers, and if they do, they may only be available on a particular day of the week.
Are there any non-drinking events/meetups?
None that are already planned/set up, but there’s a couple suggestions that are non-drinking if I recall
Cool, I'll see what happens and would probably only show up to something pretty spontaneously
Same tbh, I’m very bad at keeping a schedule haha
So my options are either find a group that wants to take classes or don’t do it? Kinda sucks tbh. Thanks for the info man
Usually the ski school will do a group class vs a private lesson. You’d just join the group class
Yeah group class doesn't necessarily mean you need to be in a group, you just get assigned to a group
kyoto/osaka DEC26-JAN2
my brother sister and I are doing a private one at karuizawa with a fluent english speaking japanese instructor for 1 day, just us 3, so will be interested to see the experience
@zealous agate That makes a lot more sense
Where are you doing this?
Karuizawa snow prince resort
for anyone visiting Japan over the holidays, should we try setting up some type of Christmas event?
one for Tokyo and another for Osaka?
I will be in Tokyo over the holiday! Thinking about visiting Christmas market + dinner meetup
hey going to rent a car on the 3rd or 4th in Tokyo to drive down to Shizuoka for a one hour wave pool session, am just looking to offer if anybody wants to split costs to tag along, I am planning on checking out Mt fuji afterwards so can drop you there on the way and pick you up on the way back if anybody was planning a trip out that way, going to maybe check out Kamakura Hasedera,Komachi-dori Street and Hokokuji Temple, yokohama after aswell. the car rental is 74$ and then fuel be about 40$ split between however many
Yes please
It’s way cheaper than breaking a leg or not going anywhere on the mountain. Look into cheaper indoor lessons back home. Each time you fall you tire your body a lot more and it sucks, even if it’s fluffy snow
Haha as much as I would love to take lessons back home, there’s only one season here and it’s summer😂 the sole reason why I had to get lessons in Japan. First time I’ll be experiencing snow
Try indoor ski or board schools, they use a raised carpeted treadmill
Will check em out. Don’t think there’s any in my city though
Thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it 👍🏻
I'll be there for Christmas! Will most likely be in Osaka on Dec 25 but I haven't even planned that far yet
All you can drink Fanta or oolong tea!
And Kyoto? 😅
Assume that’s a daytrip?
Sounds fun, and pretty decently priced. We had a private tour guide for mt fuji where we paid 50$ each or smth
guys do you any onsen hotel with a great view?
Probably have to say where what you want in the view
skyrise, nature etc
tbh anything
i saw that there are onsens with view to mt fuji
but im fine with anything with nature, a nice and relaxing view
What areas are you looking for
either next to tokyo or kyoto
Only areas I can think of in those areas is Hakone, Izu, Fujiyoshida, Lake Biwa. Just general areas, nothing specific. Probably better to ask in #accommodations
thanks !
Might be too late to book for December though
we'll be in tokyo and would attend something for christmas perhaps
Its most similar to wake boarding ! The whole process uses alot leg and core strength so anything that your level of fitness pr improves your balance before will heap, skating, balance boards ect! Also when you start to board a thing that helped me heaps is mentally telling yourself what edge of the board you are riding mentally transitioning and telling yourself heels, toes, heels, toes ect!
This is a good idea. These are the two Christmas markets/festivals. We can decide where to go for dinner depending on the date/size of the group.
Keep in mind, I'll be in Osaka for the entire duration of December. So someone else will have to host the Christmas event in Tokyo.

What kind of wave pool?
Its called surf stadium japan they built it recently for the latest olympics it replicates surf-able ocean waves, they offer a few different sized and skill level sessions throughout the day at different price points 🙂
Dang that’s pretty cool. I use to hit up the NLand surf park here in the States back in the day
@takhmar accidentally bought a ticket for Universal Studios J for the wrong date. Might need to give it away. December 27th.
Where did you buy it from
Hello, making a last minute plan to go to Japan after Christmas; got a ticket to comiket by lottery and said ‘why not’
Maybe when it gets closer, a comiket thread would be cool. I can make one
i made 1 six months ago
Try #1056119213082808400 , create a thread maybe someone will buy it from you
I got it through Klook @timber garnet
Through Klook
Ah. I assume you can’t use it on another day?
No. I meant to buy it for November but got the date wrong. I'll be there on the 29th
Oh well. I had bought mine from USJ for the 17/11 but we got sick before then and were able to go on 20/11 because it's the same rate.
Do you know how we can purchase the countdown tickets?
Do you mean the USJ countdown tickets?
I think so
The event with concerts
I think they're sold out at this point
hi all - added to the spreadsheet already, but will be solo traveling to Japan from Dec 9th to 22nd 🙂
Where is spreadsheet

So much space left over, glad I planned out my packing well
Are you only taking one suitcase? I was going to take 2 medium sized ones. One of the two will be empty for purchases to take back home.
Anything that doesnt fit in here Ill just post back
@jagged radish Sry for the ping hancy. May I ask when you buy at the melonbook store for the AM ticket for comiket, was it still in stock, or you made a reservation on melonbook online store and collect it at their physical store?
I was only able to secure an early access ticket for sunday C103 only, so I have to find a way to buy an AM ticket for the saturday. >.<
nah i just check their stock via twitter and head down to the store
so the melonbook store still have it in stock 3 days before comiket?
apparently, but only day 1
cause i will be going to JP a week before the comiket, was hoping it will still be in stock
when i buy it in stores
like around 23rd Dec
sale start from 9 dec
it feels like a scare tactic but that was my first time
i already bought online, then i felt i didnt want to go Q for my wristband and bought again
yes
one more qns, am i allowed to buy for others?
cause i see the wristband doesnt have name on it
may want to check when it releases
and i see the melonbook and animate stores allow up to 10 purchases
you could buy online and mail to the hotel
ask them to hold on to it
but reach out to the hotel before that
ah, the thing is i don have JP phone number so i cant reserve it.
you need a phone number to buy online?
apparently so, for the melonbook and animate
torana?
havent check yet, let me see it
use the hotel phone number?
i dont see anything requiring a phone number
the one where i tried to check out
it requires me to put a JP phone number in animate acc details
but when it requires sms information
is it just a phone number or do they use it to do verification?
it becomes possible to use international
the phone number i put in, if it is a telephone number, they will ask for JP phone number, and then it comes out an option for SMS
so i was wondering for the animate acc, if i were to put in a hotel / warehouse address and their phone number, will i be required to show those details when collecting in store, or do i just show the email confirmation?
it will be delivered
so i should put the hotel details im staying in, and the phone number i just put the hotel number first
and they will deliver it to the hotel?
can also see if other people are willing to help you buy
i'll probably revitalized the comiket winter thread in meetup in a week or so
okies
Cause if somehow i can just collect in store using the forwarder service warehouse location and phone number, and confirm it via an email confirmation
i would definitely be booking in animate
im just worried that they won't allow that
cause i somehow able to get to the payment page by inputting the forwarder service's warehouse location and phone number xD
forwarder is alright
okie, thanks hancy!
hmmmm next comiket is sunday and monday?
nope
thats very odd
c104
oh
summer
yeah

monday hmmm
they are trying something new? or is monday a public holiday
yes it is a public holiday
ah okies
you are right hancy, on the stuff about animate
i just need that confirmation email with the barcode
ok
from their faq they mentioned it, but it was hidden only in the purchased area
not in their normal faq found in their website
.>
looks like it is this ? https://www.animate-onlineshop.jp/faq/detail.php?id=1065
10 day holding period
Oh shucks
thanks for the help on this
didnt notice it
yes please
Hey everyone! Put my name into the spreadsheet but if anyone wants to grab a bite/drinks/or explore I'll be free in Tokyo from Dec 2 - 11! (27m asian american for context).
Anyone interested in splitting the cost for a helicopter ride over tokyo any of the dates 3-7 dec? Just hit my dms 🙂
Yo I got a jp number you can use for the verification I'm only here 5 more days the number good till like Dec 25 I think
There a december line group yet?
There's just a permanent LINE group now, we don't do new ones every month anymore
That was only necessary when it was topping 100 members every time
Also WhatsApp
https://tokyo.notquitesolotravel.com/
From my aug experience, it’s mostly for drinking
WhatsApp is somewhat less safe because your phone number is exposed
What’s the cost split?
Or specifically the total?
Should share the website publicly. Not through dms
Ah thanks for the offer, but I’m able to do it through forwarder service number for animate. Thanks
Ahhhh makes sense
Drinking is what I use it for thats why I wanted to know haha
Have never once used whatsapp and yeah not gonna start haha
Sounds like it’s perfect for you. Chat moves too fast for my taste
I made a thread for anyone who's here on Friday and wants a very memorable music experience
#1178879099385696377
This
Will be there, dropped an email
Depending on how long the flight is. I think that the 27 minute flights would be a great choice. 50/50 split of course. Total cost of this specific flight is 80k jpy so 40k each.
What’s the service providing it
Only date I could possibly do is Dec 3
I have been looking at Airos
I’ll get back to you tomorrow
how active is the group? I get an error on the app when trying to join
It’s not super active
Hell I have only seen a couple messages since I joined a couple weeks back. People usually just use discord to arrange things
Hi, yes, I'd be interested! DM me!
I'm open for the bar crawl on the 9th
Not very. Do age verification on Line to join via link
aye thanks
Have to start planning, but will be in Kyoto between (Dec 20-26) and Osaka (26-31). Things I might try:
- Teamlabs in Osaka, just to compare with Tokyo's Planets.
- Find fruits to try: rainbow kiwi, Japanese pomelo and strawberries (And maybe some other fun exotic fruits)
- Foods:
- Sushi
- BBQ
- Curry
- Ramen
- And more
- Sightseeing (Kyoto)
- Arashiyama (Bamboo forest) + monkey park?
- Fushimi Inari Shrine
- Nishiki Market
- Kinkakuji temple
- Imperial Palace
- Nara (Maybe during Osaka)
- Sightseeing (Osaka)
- Le Castle
- Minami ( Namba)
- Dotonbori
- Teamlabs Botanical Garden
- Universal Studios + Nintendo?
- Shitenno-ji
- Nara Park?
#trip-reports and #planning-and-itineraries so go enjoy
Decided not to. It’s pushing my budget a bit too much for comfort. I’ve got like 600 USD left for spending and I have to buy gifts and shit still. Sorry!
Helicopter rides sounds like something the rich people do.
No worries 😉
I’ve done similar things. Just didn’t budget for it and spent like 400 on merch already LMAOOO
I too spent a lot at meet and greet sessions/cosplay convention
You have no idea how much I can spend
Well maybe you do
I budget 30k a day for my entertainment
You never know, we might be in the presence of someone great 🤷♂️
30k¥ a day sounds fun though
Yes yen
Check out cosholic convention. That’s what I spend my time on. I can’t make it for the December date but I can make it for next year’s golden week or obon dates.
Got picture to post
I got their website
How is it different f on simping
Don’t think it’s different.
Same here, it says the group doesn’t exist
Age verification
Won Comiket early entry lottery but I accidentally said I would pay with PayPay…whoops
Might just…buy a regular ticket…
Did that as well. It’s the one where you add your dob right?
Easy, I have something on till 8ish, but free after 9pm for drinks and to roam Shibuya.
maybe also ask in this channel https://discord.com/channels/440956791426383882/1178179436697362492
I don’t remember how it works
You can’t do it in Japan if you have a foreign number
but you can do it before you get here
in your native country
Added my details for December! See y'all there! 😁

Man looking at this website can’t tell if cosplay or just plain thirst trapping. If they’re in character I don’t recognize a single one lmfao
its a doujin marketplace
Alright, let me see how to get it to work
@true herald I'm in kyoto 20-26 and Osaka 26-31
Primarily targetting food scene again, but will do sightseeing stuff inbetween to burn calories 🙂
Seems to be like ~10 people that will be in Osaka/Kyoto region between Christmas and New Years
Same here, will be in Kyoto and Osaka between the 21st and 28th
We should plan a Christmas party
Sweet, I think most people will be in Osaka on Christmas eve/day, but I’ll def join later when I’m there
Awesome, I'd love to do a Christmas get together. I just saw that the Rubber Duck will be there: https://metronine.osaka/en/event/nakanoshima-west-winter-tale-2023/
Which I have seen before, but I still love that duck
Let’s plan something. I’ll be in Kyoto for Christmas Eve and in Osaka on Christmas Day. It’s gonna be awesome!
The rubber duck will be on the 13th? I won’t be in Japan until the 17th sadly
It will be there until 25 December. I'll be in Osaka 23-28 December, also planning a day trip to Nara and possibly Kobe if anyone is interested too.
havent decided if I'll do Nara when I'm in Kyoto or Osaka but def around those dates
Was thinking maybe around christmas if things are dead
Sweet, I'm in Kyoto on Christmas Eve, but have to check if my local friend already planned something, otherwise I'm down!
Sounds good, let me know
Reminder for anyone who’s around and wants to join us in Shibuya tomorrow
#1178879099385696377
I’m feeling likely to go to Mogra in Akihabara on the 2nd and 3rd. Gotta see wildparty and oblongar do their things 😂
