It is an open-source, general purpose operating system written from scratch for UEFI and EFI-based machines. It implements own XT architecture (inspired and based on NT architecture). Available for i686 and amd64, compiled by LLVM-based XTChain.

Looks neat!

Interesting, looking forward to it

yep, and they have their own documenting block style; I prefer Javadoc style

Short video presenting current (visible) progress and new rewritten bootloader, which I plan to merge into master soon.

XTLDR (ExectOS Boot Loader) has a modular design. Last evening I have written beep module, that allows to play some tune via PC speaker. It has GRUB-compatible syntax. Short video presents the result, running on bare metal (Lenovo S205). I apologize for poor quality video.

#

I am trying to test it frequently on bare metal. Unfortunately testing on real hardware and in Qemu is like programming in C and PHP. Both Qemu and PHP forgive many mistakes. πŸ˜‰

#

qemu tends to be the one that's not very accurate and for real hardware you need to be extra careful

dense dove
#

I noticed that qemu is very gracious for memory issues. I.e. if you don't allocate memory and copy some data it might work under qemu, but no chance on real hardware.

BootLoader merged! πŸ”₯

dense dove
#

No, it's not.

#

Boot menu looks similar, but this is completely different boot loader, although also with modular design

XT architecture is a new cpu or architecture or what do you mean by architecture

winged bay

Kernel architecture, so how the kernel is designed

dense dove
#

That's right, thank you @winged bay πŸ˜‰

Greetings! I am delighted to invite you to explore the home of ExectOS world. Our website https://exectos.eu.org/ is now live, offering you a closer look at this project, its development journey, and the vision behind it. Whether you're a developer, a tech aficionado, or just plain curious, there's something for everyone. Get insights into our progress, learn about the features, and perhaps, find ways to contribute πŸ˜‰

Nice project πŸ‘But I encountered a small problem of the mobile design of the website. I think the text is a bit to thin

#

Is is it intended to look like that

dense dove

i have just been sent a concerning report stating that your kernel has imported code from minoca without attribution

dense dove
#

Is this some kind of bad joke? Yes there can be some similarity, especially both projects have same naming convention. But telling that the code was imported based on 2 wrapper functions that are common for each architecture and real implentation lays in HL which is hardware specific is just distasteful. You could also ask if i copied reactos code or better some leaked Windows code just because i mentioned that this project is trying follow NT architecture. Windows contain similar mechanism to system resources but it is more complicated and stores all data in the registry. In My opinion thats way too complicated for hobby os so i used linked list to store data provided by bootloader, like framebuffer, or acpi related data. In the future i planned to extended this to be single common interface between boot loader and kernel instead of mapping apic address into higher half at hardcoded address from bootloader.

plus

yeah

#

identical function names

#

in identical order

#

essentially identical statements

dreamy moon
#

it is more than suspicious

brave rune
#

Gonna need an explanation about this reeeaaal quick

short kraken

I'm stripping out the comments right now to drive that point home

Kep isnt even nt style

and this shouldnt be in Ke

raven crag
dreamy moon
#

it is?

#

ah okay

raven crag
#

Yes, p for private

short kraken
#

this can't be a coincidence

#

these aren't merely a wrapper function

#

there's some logic going on

#

and it's a private function!

#

I have graded university homework before

#

and if I got this as a submission, I would've given it an F for plagiarism

brave rune
#

This is plagiarism, pure and simple

dense dove
#

Kep and Kei ... both exists in NT; I decided to use just Xxp (p for private)

and the tutors, including me, graded the exam as well

oh yes

oh boy

#

if you are plagarising for cs101

#

what is your plan for everything else

raven crag
#

In my country's grading system 1 is usually reserved for failed plagiarism attempts and 2-10 as grades for actual work

dreamy moon
#

like cs102 :^)

short kraken
#

they're students straight out of high school

dreamy moon
#

i guess

short kraken
dreamy moon
#

but surely in high school you also cant steal everything

short kraken
#

i.e. 0 is the worst

#

and the best is idk

#

whatever the amount of points is

#

the final grade in the exam is then converted to the traditional 1.0 to 4.0 system

#

where 1.0 is the best

#

and 4.0 is the worst

#

the only possible grades are 1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7, 3.0, 3.3, 3.7, 4.0

#

and if you fail, you get a 5

I got a 100% in the end tho cuz I proved the teacher I could write good texts
