Well, to be serious, I found out. They disabled the overlay. An invitation to Epic shows that there is no game in Epic, an invitation to Steam gives an error that there is no game on Steam. And so you can see each other in the menu, but even through the search you can only see games from the store where they were purchased.
Do you think I'm prone to jokes? Should I send you checks?

An invitation to Steam comes only in the Steam chat, an invitation from Epic in the store client, the bundle definitely does not give anything other than the opportunity for Epic to observe the activities of users in Steam.

Epic Games overlay shortcut is Shift+F3
and once you've linked your steam account to epic, you can open this overlay on the steam version and invite/join friends who are playing on epic

Maybe later I’ll check how it works if there are games in both stores, I just erased the game in Epic, and since I spent 2 hours figuring it out, they refused to return it. As I understand it, they did not even notify the developer about the problem.
