#Epic games in-game overlay not working
91 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Same here.
did you previously have epic account linked?
yes I'm playing the Epic Games version
so you're playing on epic and what is happening exactly
The Shift + F3 shortcut for opening epic games ingame overlay doesn't work. So I can't accept invites from my friends.
In other games it works fine
Yeah works just fine in Alan Wake 2 for example
don't know epic, but can you join games directly from the launcher like in steam?
any news? Can't play coop with my friend because of this 😦
Nope, you can't
dang. can you get a join lobby url or something like that?
I don't think so, the only way is to get invite or join via public lobbies, but that doesn't work.
Not sure if this works in Epic version but if you hit Esc while in-game (at Ward 13 or in a biome world) there might be a "Friends" option.
In the Steam version we can join via the overlay OR by using this in-game feature. Screenshot below.
Yea, I can view friends in menu but can't join them only invite, the problem is, our progress is not saved at my game.
If you are using them:
Turn off MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner.
Also try turning off any other overlay you might have on (NVidia GeForce Experience, Discord, Steam, etc.)
Restart the game after and try again after you shut all of those off.
Yep thats what I tried, restarted PC turned off everything (nVidia Experience, Discord, Steam, Overwolf). Also I uninstalled Fraps, the only thing that was running was Epic Games Launcher, and it still didn't work. I don't have MSI Afterburner nor Riva Tuner.
+1 for everything Fojda said
This may help the devs:
I'm using the Steam version of the game but opened my Epic launcher and my Shift + F3 shortcut correctly opens the Epic friend's overlay for me.
Possibly something with just the Epic version of the game?
@gilded idol and @somber wren:
I also noticed if while in the game I open the Epic Launcher (from the bottom right dock near the time) that I can access the Friend's list from inside the Launcher. Could this be a workaround to needing to open the overlay?
Bottom right dock?
The epic friends list outside of the overlay doesn't permit inviting and accepting invites :/
New Patch didn't fix it
with Epic Online Services uninstalled it still gives me the option to toggle between public/friends only etc. which is weird
reinstalling the Online Services doesn't fix it
reinstalling the game doesn't fix it
from researching other games it seems that invites sent from within a game should show up in the launcher's friendslist but they don't
it seems like the game is in a semi-disconnected state? unlinked?
renaming the savegame folder doesn't work
Alan Wake 2 shows that the overlay works (a game that REALLY doesn't need it)
unlinked the game from my epic account, relinked on next start -> no change
@night sundial any info we can supply to help with this? I'm on a 4080, latest driver, latest Win11 build, no other Overlays running in the background
Any news? We'd like to continue our playthrough 😦
... would also gladly take two Steam Keys for my friend and me if that fixes the issue 😅
Today's hotfix still did not fix this, the Epic Overlay is MIA
This is an issue with Epic online services and 40 series cards, we're aware of it, but have no eta on a fix
Thanks for the feedback. Same thing happens for my friend's 3070 though and the overlay comes up in other games just fine.
we added the latest version of EOS in the latest patch, likely why other games do not have the issue unless they too patched in the last 5 days
I see. That must be it then. Anything I can do to help? File a bug report with Epic?
(replacing the EOSSDK dll with the one from Alan Wake or another game wouldn't work, right?)
dunno honestly, we're working with Epic currently
Yep, happens for me too, even though
I have 3070ti card.
We'll try replacing the EOSSDK dll tonight
I tried to replace that dll with one from rocket league directory, but the game just crashed on start. So, let me know if the version from Alan Wake will work.
Alan Wake one didn't work and I sourced an older DLL from a Remnant 2 build from September and it didn't work either 😦
well, if you're looking to mess with dlls, one work around it to rename or delete this file: sl.dlss_g.dll
located here: Remnant2\Plugins\Shared\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64
the issue is related to frame generation, Epic updates and Nvidia
@somber wren
Confirmed! Thank you! I'm gonna miss Frame Generation but it's a hell of a lot better than not playing the game at all. 🙂
this is a work a round until we can get a proper fix
I've deleted the file but it doesn't work for me for some reason 🤷♂️
The game doesn't load or the overlay doesn't show up
Hmm I've just renamed the file:
The overlay doesn't show, game runs ok
I also turned off discord, geforce experience overlay, steam etc. So, I hope the proper fix will be available asap 🥲
Hello, I and my friend have the same problem. We using Win10, I use 1660 Super, my friend use 3060ti card. The problem is present not only on Win11 and 40 cards.
I'm sorry for my English, it's not my native language
weird that renaming sl.dlss_g.dll fixes it for me but not you guys
although I haven't checked with my friend (on 30 series card) yet
How exactly to rename?
And can you say - where is that .dll file be?
@bright raven(Your Drive Letter):\Steam\steamapps\common\Remnant2\Remnant2\Plugins\Shared\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64 Also I just created a new folder within that location and moved it to the folder no need to rename the file. The game booted up and Epic Overlay worked fine but not Frame Generation option in settings so if you use Frame Generation you'll have to decide if you want to use Overlay or the Frame Generation
Thank you very much))
Hello again, I replace sl.dlls-g.dll. But that don`t helped. And one question - you use Steam version?
Because I buy game in Epic Store, and have another path
I use the epic version and of course the path is different then
As a result my RivaTuner doesn`t be disabled, because my AfterBurner restart him(((
I delete him and overlay be enable)
Rivatuner incompatibility is a different issue, should be solved by updating to the latest RTSS beta version aswell
Workaround doesn't work on my friend's 3070 system
Super weird. Works for me, though.
the current issue with the overlay that we're aware of is related to frame generation. That needs to be disabled in order to get the overlay to work, frame generation only works on 40 series cards. This an issue on Epic's side and we're waiting for a fix, there must be something else affectign 30 series cards
I have gtx1070 . I tried all of the steps above nothing seems to work.
My friend with the 3070 still can't bring up the overlay, for me it works without FrameGen now after patch and without renaming the streamline dll.
I too am unable to join a friends game atm because I can't open the overlay. I'm also playing with Epic, using a 30 series GPU. Renaming the dll likewise didn't work for me (and the overlay works properly on other games).
I would like to add: The Button at the top left of the Main Menu "F Link Epic Account" doesn't do anything. 🚬
ok, unlinking my SteamAccount from Epic, launching the game, then Pressing the Button worked. Now the Overlay is appearing.
not for me or my friend, overlay is still not appearing
keep the game closed and you'll be able to accept your friend's invite from the Epic launcher (only if game is closed, though!)
So many updates and still no solution for Epic Games overlay problem..
Thanks! That's a good idea!
That's how we do it right now as my friend can't get the overlay working aswell. I've even turned on FrameGen and invite him through the game's menu itself. The only thing that's broken is his name is just a number in-game but that doesn't seem to be an issue.
Thank you, finally some decent solution.
I'm having the same problem
@night sundial any updates on the issue please? I havent played since
What video card do you have?
3070
Try the following steps, it helped me get the overlay back into the game:
- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Epic Online Services
- run EpicOnlineServices - Development.cmd (it must update some files)
- run EGS & play
wow this actually worked for me, thanks!
FYI, above is a possible solution
Yeah, if that's working it's likely the case you had a bad install of the epic stuff, and that would basically replace it
thank you!!!!!
