Not the injectiors it sounds like one injector is just hanging out in the block, the sound stops and starts seemingly randomly
for my own mental health we have decided it is the flex plate or the torque converter
if anybody has another idea please let me know because i am kind of lost
Your transmission should have a removal inspection plate. Take it off and manually spin the motor to see what the flex plate looks like. I could be wrong, you may not have an inspection plate. I’ve never had the privilege on working on a early STR Cherokee
Always wanted one though, that and the Trailblazer SS 🙂
Do you have power loss? Did you try to move the car? What does it do?
It drives like absolutely nothing is wrong, after an oil change though I am pretty sure it’s the lifters. There was not nearly enough oil it it, maybe 5 out of the seven quarts required plus the oil was gross, and as you may know hemi lifters are very sensitive to oil level and oil quality.
After an oil change to the manufacturer recommended 7 quarts of Mobil 1 0w 40 oil it does not tick on cold start and only minority ticks on revs, but I am pretty sure that is because, unless under load, hemi oil pumps do not move enough oil. I won’t set this as solved though until I can drive it and prove myself right or wrong. It isn’t registered yet because I’m making sure everything is good for the street before I start that process so I can’t drive it just yet.
Could be an exhaust leak. What I hear is 18 year old car noises from a 18 year old car.
I’m hoping you are right haha
What’s the mileage?
165k
Sorry for the late response, I am exactly 50% through my first red dead redemption two play through
I would not worry unless it suddenly got worse
Couldn’t you pull the valve covers, pull fuel pump relay and turn it over, should make it pretty easy to find out if it’s coming from there. Never worked on a Cherokee but I’ve done it to other vehicles, works good
Or buy a stethoscope, make your parents proud be the doctor that always wanted
Or just use a long screw driver as a stethoscope.
It was the lifters did a rebuild and I found this guy
That was a good idea
Wow what a throwback post lol glad you found it
I haven’t looked at this server in months thought I would stop in here and show that I did in fact find the culprit
How did the rest look?
not good not terrible
threads already done but sick car, i love those things
Thanks man, I love it too, always wanted one since I was a kid and my grandpa brought home a 2014 grand Cherokee srt. Glad to be matching with him so many years later
