accident messed up one headlight, decided to replace both
GG @thorny chasm, you just advanced to level 5! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Can you remove the passenger side headlight bulb and take a photo of it for me?
Or is it inaccessible?
it will take a while to do that
i figured if anyone knows if this singular flicker is a telltale sign of a specific cause then it would be worth asking
otherwise i would probabaly have to tear it apart and diagnose like you said
Lemme see
see what in particular?
I'm gonna do a lil research.
i would have to remove the left side air filter housing
What year is your g?
fuses, connections, and grounds are all possible i feel
I'm pretty sure the ballast is either defective, or they reused the one from the damaged light.
oh yeah that thing
may i ask what points you towards that component rather than wiring?
Because the headlamp ground is shared by all of these components
And also, the flickering/blinking reads ballast
i see…
Usually an intermittent power connection won't be symptomatic while the car is sitting still, as well
that’s why i was confused
i’ll be sure it check it out. it’s not a huge issue rn but might it eventually just give out completely?
The usual failure mode is that they turn on when you turn on the headlamps, and then they shut right back off.
Whichever one is faulty, that is
yeah other one is fine
maybe this cooler hue one that’s flickering could be bc of the bad ballast? or do bad ballasts usually make the light turn more yellow as it says online
It's probably just because it's a different light temperature/bulb color
If you have a multimeter, it would not hurt to check the red wire for full alternator voltage, of course.
And for ground resistance on the black wire.
wouldn’t a bad alternator effect all lights
Yes. What I meant is check for 12-15v on the red wire.
i have noticed today in diagnostic mode, the headlight appears to start off the same color then the drivers side changes to a warmer hue
it leads me to believe they are the same bulb but for some reason they are just acting really weird
do you think i may need to get new ballasts for both?
that's normal, xenon headlights are supposed to get warmer in hue as they come up to operating temp. They also get brighter
if you look at my picture at the very top my headlight always look like that with one side cooler than the other. idk if it supposed to be like that or not
