I have a feeling it could be lifter tap. Do you think it would be possible to fix it by adding more oil?
Yes, it is lifter tick.
And no, adding more oil is not a good fix unless you're actually measurably low on oil.. Do you have the tools available to you to potentially fix this yourself? If so, I could provide resources to help you do so.
The motor is pretty low on oil actually since it burns lots of it. Especially when driving it hard
I don’t have many tools, but the car will be going to the shop later this month
According to my labor guide, replacing the all of the valve lash adjusters/lifters is a 4.6 hour job for a regular tech.
Definitely add oil if its low tho.
4.6 hours?
That's what alldata says, yes. I've never pulled apart an Eclipse 3.0, so I cannot say whether that figure is high or low.
thats fat lifter tick. onlything to try before pulling apart the engine is doing an engine flush to see if a lifter is stuck and replacing the oil with the next grade of oil up
other than that not much else you can do
Just an update, I replaced the valve cover gasket and realized over a quart of oil had leaked out. After installing the new gasket and topping it off with oil, the lifter tick disappeared. Appreciate the help, guys.
