#Alpina B7, should I buy?

I found a beautiful Alpina B7 on marketplace for 9000 dollars. I’ve driven the car, and know its flaws, if I’m going to buy it, it would be today.

My head keeps swinging back and forth on this car. I’ll start off with the bad

  1. It’s got 175000 miles
  2. Some creature comforts don’t work, like DVD Player, and one of the rear sunshades.
  3. Leaks a small amount of oil.
  4. It had almost zero service history on carfax.
  5. Finding any Alpina specific parts is going to be a nightmare
  6. Transmission has no history at all of being serviced, drives fine.

That’s the bad, the good is pretty good though.

  1. The paint is in mint condition, still has that new car gloss.
  2. Interior is perfect, all climate control functions work, including 4 zone climate control, heated, massaging, and cooled seats.
  3. It’s got the 500HP supercharged V8.
  4. Brand new supercharger, timing chain tensioner, and valve stem seals.
  5. Perfect uncurbed Alpina wheels.
  6. 26k in documented service on paper, and only using OEM Parts. In the last 3k miles.
  7. Clean title

The current owner bought it for super cheap from the guy who did all the repairs. He got a new Range Rover so he is looking to downsize.

What are we thinking chat? Is the car gonna grenade on me or not? It’s an N62 engine with a supercharger on it.

If you only have $9k, this is a really bad idea. I’m guessing you’ve got more in reserves to cover the inevitable unknowns. Assuming that to be the case, for nine grand it’s a great driver quality vehicle that will be unique wherever you go and bring you a smile whenever you drive it. That said, you should look at what is involved in fixing the leak, and what other “while you’re in there” items you can do at the same time, and do that project right away.

I have another BMW to work with in case this one ever needed repair

Your question is, should I buy it. My response was “ I wouldn’t say no.” Meaning I would NOT say no to buying it. You should definitely buy it. Very very cool car.

Transmission shifts funky for sure now that I’ve had some time with her

#

The ZF6 is known for being a little funky though, gonna see if a valve body job fixes it

Fluid has been changed

#

Of course it needs another change but I’m just gonna rebuild it while I’m in there

I would assume a valve body for this is pricey

inland raptor
#

It’s a rebuild kit, couple hundred bucks. I don’t plan on daily driving this car so might as well get some work done

Seeing this car is extremely cheap

#

it might have hidden critical issue

#

such as engine stalling and stopping sometimes

#

airconditioner not working sometimes

#

transmission not shifting properly

#

and if it happens rarely

#

seller will prob not tell you and if you complain later

#

they'll prob say "i didnt knew it

inland raptor
#

It shifts good now, I will note that it leaks a half decent amount of oil and it’s smell does get into the cabin
