have the codes pulled. somethings wrong but its impossible to say what it is without codes. could be a faulty shifter solenoid
Code says it’s solenoid B. So maybe it trips from 2nd to 3rd? Mechanic didn’t say anything about that he just said don’t use 5th. I’ll be getting it rebuilt or replaced when I can either way, just hopin to get a little more out of this trans.
if its a faulty solenoid you generally have to pull the valve body and replace the solenoids. im dealing with the exact same issue rn, on many cars you have to drop the transmission oil pan to access it
The mechanic changed the trans fluid and filter, not sure why he didn’t say anything about the solenoid. I think he assumed 5th was the only thing tripping the code. To be honest I’ll probably need a new transmission in a year or so so I might not buy a new solenoid pack right now.
i mean if youve serviced fluid and filter well it can last you a bit longer. generally the only major thing you need to do on transmissions over time is clutch packs, but oftentimes while theyre opened might as well do things like pumps and other seals
Ok. I’d definitely prefer just fixing it if it’s not past that point. I just got the car so I don’t know how often they did fluid before me.
did your mechanic comment on what the fluid looked like? if its very black its most likely not doing too well, but if its reddish/brown it should be fine
He didn’t say anything about the color. Just said lots of metal shavings and I think he said the rear clutch pad is probably gone? I don’t know much about cars that might not be what he said
hmm i mean if its slipping then thats a possibility. metal shavings in an automatic isnt uncommon though, depends on what it looks like. this is a good example of what is "much" but acceptable
I’m not sure I didn’t see it myself but he said it was pretty furry
I’d like to learn how to do this stuff on my own but I don’t have a safe way to get under my car yet
i can tell you that a full transmission job is not fun and not something i recommend if you dont know what youre doing
Ya I wouldn’t install one myself, I just mean being able to change my fluid on my own would be nice
newer automatics without a dipstick are tricky to do fluid changes on, if it has a transmission dipstick its easier
Ya unfortunately mine doesn’t. I haven’t gotten under it yet but I’m gonna check my garage for jacks today and see about changing the oil

yeah engine oil/filter is pretty easy and a good place to start. if the filter sits up top you can get one of those suction tools for 30-40 bucks that you can just snake down into the dipstick tube
I’m pretty sure the filter is closer to the bottom. Ford had to make maintenance as inconvenient as possible
fair enough. when jacking your car up make sure you jack it up at the jack points or the suspension bridges/subframe and not everywhere along the sill or the floor panels. good videos on this online. take your time with this
