Oil change quick questions (2013 Corolla) with photos

I just finished an oil change on my mom's car 2013 Toyota Corolla.

The oil filter socket got stuck to the filter housing (cartridge style filter) it was snug on there and a little extra turn. The socket wouldn't come off at all. I pried it off with a metal push pin tool. Should I be worried about it? I'll probably replace it with an aftermarket filter housing next oil change.

My other question is about the drain plug gasket. I replaced the old drain plug with a dorman plug, it came with a rubber gasket so I assumed that was the correct one and used it. Torqued it down to 27ft lbs should I be worried about it? It looked like the previous shop my mom took the car to had stacked 2 crush washers on the old drain plug so this will probably hold.

For the filter, try to loosen the filter and see if the socket loosens up, and for the drain plug, as long as it’s the same size and it’s nice and tight, and no leaks you should be good

Check if the filter is crushed or got a crack

I don’t think it should, sense the socket doesn’t compress

The car ran fine. I didn't take it for a drive but it idled and I topped it up

Was there any leaks on the ground ?

I didn't check its hard to check it with the car on the ground

If there isn’t any and levels are good. Then nothing to worry about

It was snug on there. It was just hard to get the socket off. It wasn't cross threaded . I think the solution is getting a new filter housing

Why do u need a new housing?

It's kind of rounded off. It got the socket stuck on there

I think it will be fine. Lesson learned to replace it and I learned that there's rubber drain plug gaskets

Valvoline restore and protect 5-30 in my mom's 0-20 car should have it running a bit better

you might be able to use 5w20 instead of ow20 but id check if thats the case for the car

I'm using 5-30 it's not going to kill the car. It'll probably perform better for our use case, hot environment (Texas) and lots of city driving.

If you checkout international owners manuals you'll realize 0-20 is almost always for freezing cold climates. It's used in the US to boost mpg

Epa regulation thing. It will make mpg slightly worse but she only does city driving so it's bad anyways
