A few years ago, my dad got me a 350z for my first car. It’s super well taken care of and is a great drive. After that I always wanted a Datsun, not the zx or 2+2, those are lameeeee. A z car, I finally got one a little over 2 weeks ago now, I’m so excited to work on it. So much rust but it will be worth it in the end. I payed 2,300 for it. Trailered 8 hours each way to get this beauty, any recs on specific builds? Have one in mind but always open to suggestions

I reccomend MSA for your parts and for build wise I always wanted to see one of these turned ralley or drag, but that isnt in the nature of Japanese cars

Currently I’m stripping it to do a complete restoration, the engine runs atm so I might use that for a while. The frame needs some work, most is rusted through up to the firewall. Thinking about doing a unibody swap? Never done one before, legit today I just learned how to change the rotors and break pads on my friends mustang😭😭 I’m learning and have big plans but it’s gonna take a lot of work

Oh I understand my first project car was/is the z31, the gen right after yours. I got rockerpanel rust and a little bit of stuff in the trunk but nothing crazy. Well the rocker panels are done for. I'm welding everything with some friends soon
And yeah use it, datsune made some great engines. The vg30e can be turboed and even cranked up to 800 rwhp

Apparently the rear end is not made for a lot of whp. I’ve seen videos where it just gets ripped out

Yeah, the diff is kinda trash, and the axels, but those are all pretty easy teplacements
And personally you should start with restoration
Maybe cool wheels, some paint, just little things that make the car feel like yours so you dont get too far ahead of yourself too fast

Nice project man a few years ago i used to do maintenance on some really versions of it. It sounds so good with the l26 engine but those where 240z i dont know if the 280z has one

Finally got the time to do some actual work on it. Took the drive shaft, trans, and motor out.
