Hi,

I am thinking of buying this car, to either make it a project car or daily it. It has a tick in the engine. All the information is below;

“Background & Condition of the Car
I brought this Legacy B4 RSK with me when I moved back to the Netherlands. Before I wanted to register the vehicle with the RDW, I decided to have the engine overhauled to bring it into top condition and prepare it for a power upgrade.

-Engine overhaul professionally performed (invoices available)

  • New parts and Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit installed
  • Engine run in for 1500 km after overhaul

When the car was ready, I didn't have time to take it to the RDW myself. That's why I offered it to FDT Sportscars B.V., who has experience with import registrations. Unfortunately, a knock occurred in the engine during the drive to FDT.
FDT further prepared the car for RDW registration, but we decided together to have the engine repaired first before offering it to the RDW. Since I no longer have time for this due to other priorities, I am now selling it as a project car.

Specifications
-Year of construction: 1999
-Mileage: 140,634 km
-Engine: 2.0L Twin-Turbo (280 hp)
-Transmission: Manual
-Fuel: Petrol
-Drive: AWD (All-Wheel Drive)

Extras & Upgrades
-Cusco coilover kit (adjustable suspension)
-STI rear silencer for a sporty sound
-Spare parts (almost a full trunk of extra parts)
-Full documentation available (including export documents from Japan and the papers for the RDW)”

I contacted the owner and got two video’s of the tick in the engine. Anyone that can tell me what is wrong with it? And if its worth buying and repairing myself?

One video is from the inside, where you can clearly hear the problem. But the one on the outside not so much…

And what would be a reasonable price for this? Taking in mind it also has no license plate

However it developed a knock after an overhaul? Would love to see what that overhaul entailed.

#

A knock is big money, especially in this motor. Engine has to come out. As far as what the issue would be, it could be crank bearings, piston slap, hard to tell with just videos. Going to depend on where on the engine it is coming from.

It got the knook 1500km’s after the ‘rebuild’

That engine does not sound particularly good. Sounds like bottom end but more than that is impossible to tell with just a video. I’d assume the worst and the engine needs another rebuild and if you buy it the price should reflect that.

But I think im better of letting this one fly. I dont have the experience nor equipment to take on something this big

#

Thanks guys!

#

What would be a reasonable price to buy it for, if i let the issue get fixed by a garage?

Sorry fam, it is such a cool car.

Would it be worth buying and letting a mechanic repair it?

If a shop does it. Assuming most parts are reusable from the recent rebuild.

Yeah, he put it up for 5 grand. So no way me and him are going to find a agreement
