My 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid (105k miles) is making grinding sounds when I start and reverse from cold and when I apply the ICE breaks. It continues for a while when I'm driving.

It began after an oil change a few weeks ago; don't know if that's coincidence or not. It doesn't do it when it's using regenerative braking. I had the brakes and suspension looked at by a local company and they didn't see any problems. I had the transmission fluid checked to make sure it was full after the oil change. It was.

Any ideas? What does this sound like to you?

I don't see where to post a video so I'll comment shortly after I upload to YouTube.

After about five minutes of driving the noise stops. I can then drive it for however long without issues. As long as I don't let it sit till it gets cold again, they won't come back...

Any thoughts? Going to drop it off at a shop Friday and Uber home and let it cool down for several hours for they can hear it.

Vacuum pump.

SInce its an older hybrid it still uses a vacuum brake booster. The engine in a non hybrid produces vacuum, but since its a hybrid it needs an auxilary vacuum pump. Could also be the case that since has a pump that it does not use engine vacuum at all.

Taking it to a shop that works on hybrids Tuesday hopefully... Only other place that isn't the stealership.

They'll probably want to diagnose it themselves, too.
