#2018 chevy cruze timing chain problem

I have a 2018 chevy cruze and I'm getting the obd2 code P0011 saying that there's an advancement on my camshaft positioning. This code came up about 8 months ago. I changed my oil and it went away. It's now back even though my oil is still at 40% of its life. I'm not sure if there is an actual problem with the timing chain. Any ideas on how to check for an actual issue without having to take a look at the timing chain?

1.4 or 1.6?

I assume you've checked your oil level?

obsidian python

Yes

Question- Do you have a test light, multimeter, and scan tool that can run test procedures?

obsidian python
#

I have an obd2 and a multimeter yes

#

Not sure what a test light is?

#

And no scan tool

The answer to the problem, other than oil level or quality, is usually a intake cam position sensor or actuator solenoid. One of those is A LOT easier to access and replace than the other.

#

Unfortunately you can't rule out the circuit/ECU without a scan tool that can command the actuator solenoid ON while you test the circuit with the multimeter

obsidian python
#

Okay. So get a scan tool

#

Is it all universal like an obd2 or do I need something specific for my vehicle or job?

You need a pretty expensive scan tool to run active tests. I've never actually browsed for one since my employers always provided them, but lemme look

Yeah on Amazon it's a minimum of 400$ to buy one that doesn't look worthless

GG @obsidian python, you just advanced to level 4! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!

I might just take it to a dealer

lunar hamlet

You've got about a 50/50 shot of being correct if you try replacing the camshaft position sensor tho

#

Which is the way easier of the two to replace

obsidian python
#

Or a friend that has one

#

Because I don't know if buying one would be worth it for me

lunar hamlet
#

They're 31.99 at autozone

obsidian python
#

Sounds good

#

Might do that today if it stops raining

#

Worth a shot

lunar hamlet
#

Just remember that there is two per car and you want to replace the intake sensor. They're the exact same part as well

#

You COULD try swapping the two side to side and see if you develop an exhaust over-advance code

obsidian python
#

Ooooooo good idea okay

lunar hamlet
#

The exhaust sensor is on top of the valve cover, and the intake sensor is on the side of the valve cover

#

1 is exhaust, 2 is intake, apparently its on the rear (transmission) end of the engine, with the intake sensor being on the side facing the firewall

obsidian python
#

Okay yeah I'll take a look

Appreciate the help
