GG @gray wasp, you just advanced to level 20! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Does it do it on cold starts only? To me it sounds like it’s running dry for that second until oil gets to the top.
How many miles?
243k km
No
it could be ur starter motor
Could be hanging out too long for sure.
Does that mean its bad?
I'm replacing my fuel pump, but I've suspected maybe the starter starting to fail.
Very well could be. I hope that’s the case, that is easy lol
Is there a way I can test it?
I can get a ebay starter for like a 100 bucks, never done a starter but I've done a alternator so should be easy, right?
It’s a matter of a couple of bolts and cables but it is totally dependent on where it is. Could be an easy spot could be hard
What you can do is remove it to test it, that would be the most cost effective way of doing it so your not spending money just to diagnose
Gotta remove the battery and airbox etc, its behind the engine.
Remove it and hold it or mount it to something and try to start the car and see what it does
We know that it starts the car, just gotta see if it’s “sticking out”
Someone told me it could be a pully?
Any other way to test it? I got nobody to help me lol
It could be anything. I am simply basing what I think it is based on a video with sound. Some diagnosing is in order. I doubt it’s a pulley, normally it would make noise at all times when running
Could disconnect the starter completely and jump it with the battery
Ngl might just buy a new starter and replace it without testing it.
Starter is prob the next thing to go, ive replaced like everything else.
You need to remove the starter either way. Why not just remove the starter and test it? 🤔
Yeh test the old one
Im gonna try to test it myself, but done more driving and it sounds like the starter is just hanging out a little longer after the car starts.
Keep us posted!
Ended up taking it to a mechanic :/, they didnt pull it out they just started it a few times to see if the car faults. They said they suspect that sound is the starter just hanging out too long.
He just said to replace it
He seemed confident after hearing the sound, so 🤷 yall reckon if they agree I should just get a new one?
Sure you have a mechanic looking at it. He said the same that some of us have said
Obviously didnt say everything he said, but he said something about the starter being on the flywheel etc idk
I called a few shops here, they don't have "tools required" and basically said after hearing the sound I need a new starter.
I dropped it off at a shop near by, and he said get a new starter so
Well the starter spins the fly wheel and turns the car over. Thats what a starter does. But he seems right. I would replace it.
Let us know how it comes out. Did they give you a price yet?
250
if they did the work and got the part
I can get a starter online for 105, might try and replace myself.
If you can do it that is good learning experience
But if they do the remove and replace and buy the part, 250 is a solid price.
Ill prob try to do it myself.
I've done the alternator before, so shouldn't be that hard.
Not hard at all
Well shouldn’t be anyways lol.
Just in a bad spot, so not really hard.
Bought one of those Ryobi ratchets :) job should be easy
new starter on the way, Thanks for the help everyone.
Electric ratchet is a game changer. Love mine.
Now I gotta just suck it up and do the job :/
