I say "first" because i already drive one but I need something more practical.

I drive a 2003 slk 230 right now and its not that practical for college and after
Im looking for a sedan/hatchback
I also want to have fun with it
maybe some modification like intake, exhaust, and wheels, nothing too major however
I don't mind manual or auto
only preowned i dont want a new car

Some cars i've already test driven/looking at are:
Subaru WRX
Toyota gr86
GR Corolla
Golf
Civic Si

open to other cars

I'm delighted to continue with this convo from earlier and I'm glad you're leaning more towards sedan/hatchback. I think the biggest factor to consider here is the cost of the car. are you paying for it outright? are you trying to get a loan? will your parents help you?

#

realistically I dont see you finding a GR Rolla in the used market nor do I think its the most practical for your situatuion

#

would also like to offer the suggestion of the Ford Focus ST. great aftermarket support, large used market (that is lowering in price), 4 door hatchback, manual, decent reliability

I don’t believe the modern Si came five door but I know for a fact the Civic Sport did and that is a very roomy car with a hatch.

I want to pay for most of the car, but my parents are willing to help with some cost. Preferably under 30k

They’re pretty reliable, and there’s so many things you can do to them, truly

#

They are very spacious for a hatch and sporty

#

i’m seeing many under 20k which is perfect cause then i’ll have some money for mods and stuff

#

under 15k even

Yeah it’s been a pretty stable market for them. I recommend looking for the ST3 package if available (bigger screen, better seats, and other little bits) but even regular package is the same mechanically

vocal ravine
#

how do i find that package

#

like what makes it stand out from base ST

#

People swap the knobs but screen is the dead give away lol

vocal ravine
#

the ST3 has recaro seat?

#

oh yea the screen is very different LOL

#

i found an ST3 package for 11k

#

mileage is high that’s the problem

how is reliability with them

#

126,762 mi

Thats very high for that car

A 15-18 car could easily have 130-200k miles

#

In the US, most cars average about 12-14k miles a year

i really like the focus i saw some videos and it looks like it’s fun to drive

@vocal ravine I just got a Subaru wrx and have absolutely 0 regrets

#

U should get one if you can find a deal in your area. But if u plan on getting one go low mileage & low owners (most important)

#

biggest thing with used subies are the more owners the less u know about the driver and this is a very common car for young teenagers who drive it into the ground

#

I looked at over 6 of them across a few months and so many were dinged and scratched and riddled with issues

#

And huge bonus is who doesn't love driving a turboed car
