Get proper oil in there asap, and then get it to a dealer for a warranty claim

And what could’ve caused it?

loud wyvern
#

It’s under warranty, that’s Ford’s problem TCC_BackAtYou

Oh for sure but out of curiosity

#

Since its not a chain or a camshaft could it be a piston ring

The sound is random to my ears, that makes me wonder about foreign material in the intake. Any driveability symptoms, check engine light? What was the exact oil and filter that were used in the oil change and how long ago was it?

Just to be safe, put the paper air filter back in before you send it in for warranty claim, don’t want to give them an excuse to deny

The oil was 5w30 as recommended and as i’ve always been using as well but the company changed from Shell to Valvoline (changed it after the noise became too concerning around 600km later)

Oh weird, either of those oils should be fine, I doubt any harm done from the oil. I was worried you put some 20w50 in there or something

gilded mortar
#

Oh no

#

But I’m planning on adding 10w30 instead to check if higher viscosity will lead to the same outcome

If I may suggest, don’t even bother, just let ford deal with it

They’re pretty awful with how they handle warranty here, they’ll keep the car in there for at least two weeks merely to come back and tell me oh yeah the car has an issue

loud wyvern
#

Ah

#

And then 4 more weeks to fix it

#

Hell, I had to wait 6 hours at some point for an oil change lol

#

So lets just say, they’ll try to bore you off so you don’t even bother with demanding the warranty

loud wyvern
#

Aye. On the chance this is a problem that requires engine to be torn down in some manner, the wait will suck but at least you’ll be glad you won’t foot the bill

gilded mortar
#

Oh for sure, but before that I’ll try to see if the issue is serious enough for me to give my car up for a month

#

A friend of mine told me that this sounds more like an exhaust leak, another mechanic told me that sounds like an issue within the intake manifold
