I just got my first car a 3 door corsa 2007 model. I had one of my friends sit in the back yesterday and when they were getting out i pulled back the seat using the lever and then just shut the door of the car without putting the seat back in place. In the morning when i was trying to get back into the car the seat was locked in its position - the entire back rest wouldnt tilt when i would engage the lever. The entire seat rolls back and forward but the back rest does not move whatsoever. Is there any way i can fix this? I feel like the lever isnt engaging which may be the issue.

Any help to revert this and fix this back to normal would be greatly appreciated

This is an unfortunate one, usually the handle brakes and doesn’t pull the cable any more. You can try pulling the handle off to see, but that only exposes the handle end of the cable which is probably ok. May need to remove the seat cover to see down below where it actuates the seat locking position.

It being stuck locked forward is one I haven’t seen before, possible you could gently pull the handle while rocking the seat back and forward in case it’s just latched too tightly but I’m guessing you already tried that

Yeah, easier to troubleshoot with the seat out for sure. Can remove the upholstery and hopefully see the issue

I did indeed remove the upholstery and get the seat to tilt temporarily. There is a small lever that you can pull with your finger to engage the tilt mechanism (the top lever in the image) temporarily if its stuck. When the backrest wont tilt, the top lever is resting in that small caved in bit. The top lever is controlled by a firm tilt cable which connects to the tilting handle on the outside of the seat.

I pulled the top lever with my finger and the seat was able to tilt freely; however, the lever does not trigger when i lift the tilt handle on the outside and so now, the seat just tilts freely and cannot be fixed into place. Which is pathetic to be honest. I think one part of the cable might just be broken or the tilt handle might not allow the cable to engage.

I might have to strip the entire seat and possibly get a new tilt cable to install myself, I don't really know how i would take the car to a mechanic as the backrest on the seat just moves freely and i cannot rest on it.

Pretty frustrating, i bought this car around a week ago and im having to change this out already and also am not 100% sure what the problem is. I just think it might be one end of the tilt cable.

(What's shown in the image is located behind the upholstery of the back of the seat and in the left corner)

Replacing a seat is wayyyyy easier and probably cheaper than repairing one.

Are you able to remove the tilt handle from the seat? If I’m understanding correctly, you can pull the cable and it releases, but pulling the handle does not release, so I wonder if the handle’s connection to the cable is busted

i saw online that if you leave the seat in a tilted position for too long, for example like i did overnight, the cable experiences too much tension and could have slipped or stretched
