Hey, I’m a student with currently no license, about to turn 17 (legal driving age in the UK). My parents started asking about getting a car, so I’ve been looking around a lot, trying to find something that fits my taste. I'm a diehard RX7 FC fan, but accept that it isn't really a great choice for a first car. I don’t know much about cars, especially the mechanical side, but after a bit of searching, I've ended up choosing a 1st gen 323F with the 1.6L I4 engine. I get that they come in a V6 variant but insurance is crazy and plus i'm not really looking for a particularly fast car, and the 323 has the RX7 charm in an affordable and most importantly (i think anyway) reliable package.
I know they are not very well known, so a quick rundown of this particular model. It's pushing a huge 90 bhp with 135Nm of torque. Its FWD and only weighs 990kg, has a 5 speed manual transmission and a top speed of 182km/h (113mph) and a 0-60 of 10 seconds (also it has power steering which is great)
They are ridiculously cheap when you can find them, i’m planning to save up for it within half a year from my part time job. I dont particularly want to do any big mods, but i might do some small stuff on the interior with CarPlay and maybe upgrade the wheels and headlights and stuff if I find I really like it, but no big changes etc
So, does this seem like a good choice if I’ve got 1-1.5k gbp and wanna get a 1990-94 model (so first gen for those beautiful popups), with 60-100k km?
Would appreciate any advice since lowkey I haven't really got a clue about what constitutes a good first car
The picture attached is just generic, its not the particular one i'm looking at right now. Importantly, I also have some time before needing my own car when I get a license, so I could wait around to find a decent 1.8L model which pushes 105bhp and is a bit faster or a nicer 1.6
