Hey all. Question for those who have worked on this model.
Pic related, this is when I first started.

Working on family members car, rear left wheel bearing. I live in Massachusetts so rust. Though over all the car underneath could be worse. I’ve heard that these bearings are a pain but holy hell. Where the bearing sits is rusted in the knuckle.

Got a slight gap by using bolts as a “press” but I’ve gone through a dozen bolts and once they strip, I have to cut them out. Propane torch helped with removing the four bolts but it’s been so windy in New England that it has been tough to warm things up hot enough. Just got a slide hammer but since it’s sun down and it’s windy, I am giving up until tomorrow.

Any one have any input or insight on what else I could try to bust this out.

Once it’s out it will take 20 minutes to button everything back up.

picture shows nut still on there. did you take that off?

#

if yes, would hit it with a liberal amount of PB blaster and let it sit overnight. Slide hammer should do the trick tomorrow.

It’s this damn rust. I’m a Florida boy, I’m not used to this

Have you tried a big bearing puller. I find that slow linear force is way more effective than a slide hammer.

Once I did that I soaked it in penetrating oil.

Marked as Completed.

Slide hammer didn’t do shit. Waste of time. PB Blaster, half inch nuts and bolts, grade 8 and went to town with a sledge and it came out.

#

Installation took 30 mins after the damn old one came out.

#

Actually I don’t know how to mark it as complete 😅

Oh yeah, penetrant soaking and heat is a way of life 😂 I’m in the habit now of soaking my stuff hours and days ahead of time
