Volvo v70 p2 2007
We can distinctly hear the noise get loud, quiet down, then get loud again. Does that change with engine RPM or is that doing it at idle?
Could be a loose nut too or just maybe change the oil.
it doesnt speed up with reves but it does get louder
it sounds like its from around the cam gears
the video was taken at idle
sometimes i can drive the cars for hours and it wont make any noise
sometimes it happens as soon as i start the car and will keep happening till i stop driving and leave it for a bit
@wet night any chance you know about these 2.4t5 engines, do they have any known timing tensioner issues or that type of thing?
nope
afaik these engines are usually rock solid
is it possibly a vvt pully, i have had a engine light on but it went away, the code was p0016, cam timing out
i know a garage last year found play in the vvt pullys and replaced the exhaust side
is it possible the pully is loose in the cam gear
Yep. Play in those systems is what it sounds like to me - I was wondering about a tensioner as other engines those are a common failure, but yes the play could be a pulley too
It's got a new belt as well so I assume it's had a new tensioner when the exhaust pully was done, I'm gonna check the intake pully and vvt solenoids
