#White smoke and slight egg smell
81 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
White smoke is normal during the winter. As for the egg smell, check to see if your cabin air filter needs to be replaced. There could also be bacteria in your air conditioning
I mean when I was going like 50 mph it looked like a lot of white smoke coming from behind me. So I’ll go check the air cabin air filter what else?
I didn’t have the air conditioning on tho
I only smell the egg smell when I opens my window
Yeah there’s smoke when its cold out because of the condensation in the exhaust. If you look at other cars, they’ll all have smoke coming out too usually
Maybe it’s an exhaust leak then
It could be a sign of the catalytic converters failing. Are you in a state that does emissions testing and is there any check engine light?
No check engine light
My state does emissions yes
So as of now I’m hard acceleration the one time I did it had a lot of white smoke but after not much then I smelled eggs
If no check engine light, then it’s not an immediate concern. There’s a possibility you might not pass a tailpipe test if your state does that, but if no tailpipe test then you’ll be ok. If the car was sitting for a while the catalytic converters may have needed to get warmed up properly. Give it a few days of driving and see if the smell remains. May go away on its own now that you’re driving it
Ya I just bought it from a deal
Dealer and it’s been driven not too far mostly test drives and stuff shouldn’t the smell cleared up and that white smoke on hard acceleration?
White smoke is likely condensation, it’ll happen every time the car gets cold, and go away when car is warmed up.
It was a thirty minute drive and towards the end we went hard acceleration that’s when the smell and smoke really showed and smelled
Next time you drive make sure it's warmed up and record a good rev
So let the car warm up for how long then hard rev and record the exausht? Can I be in park or do I have to be driving
Go on a drive or something for a few minutes, if it has a temp guage let it get to 210 or the middle. Then a rev in park
GG @vernal stone, you just advanced to level 6! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Yes
Did I get fucked with buying this car
No why, it looks fine
The smell
Also the engine does this sound normal
Yeah it sounds fine
So what should I do about the smoke and smell I have a 5 day money back from the dealer
I have a cheap obd scanner no codes popped up
The smoke its fine like others have said thats because its cold, mine makes alot more smoke than that when it starts lol. Egg smell could be cats not sure, maybe have a dealer check that and if it is have the dealer replace them.
What car do you own
Just some loud injectors, it's fine
I’m more worried about the cats now guys that’s not a cheap repair
Wait wait wait. Can they legally sell a car that won't pass emissions there?
No lol
So wait that means I don’t have to worry about bad cats? It was a Toyota dealership @heavy ridge
Ya it was a official Toyota dealship I got the car from
It means that if it is bad cats that you could legally go after them for it. I would talk to them first though
Is it lost Lilily nothing
The car was grandma owned and when I started speeding I smelled it
Wait a minute, while driving or like at a stoplight?
Check your fuel trims
When I punched it I smelt it and saw a lot of smoke
White but it was cold out. Then when I parked at home to rev it not really any smoke just a little but then I smelt a faint egg smell after reving just nowhere near as much as the first time or only time I should say
What’s that
How do I check that I know my car runs on premium
OBD scan tool, look for short and long term fuel trims and take a picture. I think you just have an exhaust leak
I have a cheap obd the black basic one will that work and also where do I go on it to look for what your telling me.
It should and it depends on OBD
Will this tell me anything
I’ll check it out in a little bit and what am I picturing of I hear it changed rapidly
I’ll. Heck it out tomorrow it got dark outside and is reallly cold
Yes, tells us if you have an exhaust leak before the cats
So it’s not the cats because like you said they can’t sell me a car that doesn’t pass Emerson’s correct? And this was a Toyota dealer
Ya sorry I’ll check it tomorrow I’m so cold and this far process took a lot of paperwork
If they do sell it, it's a large fine iirc, and yeah I don't blame you on the cold
Was it certified preowned?
Yes from Toyota themselfs
Don’t blame me on the cold? I’m confused wdym by that
Yes it’s certified pre own
I work outside, I don't want to step out into it either
I’m sure it is in working order then. It has to meet a certain criteria to be certified preowned
So I’m ok and that egg smell was nothing ?
I wouldn’t say it’s nothing but I think it would be safe to assume everything was in working order when they sold it to you.
The smoke is just from it being cold
It’s in the teens here and everywhere I go the Subaru is throwing “smoke”
So for now check the fuel trim and see if it’s an exaishjt leak?
I’m pretty sure it was verified
As a certified they told me that all used cars have to pass there safety inspection or they cannot sell the car
For sure
I’ll update you guys tomorrow after work
On the smell smoke etc I’m not fully insured till Monday so no promises
have u refilled the tank yet?
I bought the car with it at 75% fullness
googling the rotten egg smell people suggest new gas or pushing the car hard to get gunk out of the cat... completely baseless suggestions though
It could be tho so I’m not gonna jump to conclusion immediately
