#Caty Ford Focus SE 2014

What do you mean, it's causing you to redline every time you drive?
Sounds like it's clogged, but that also causes a bad misfire and possible damage, the misfire would be it opening the valves when it's not supposed to be open
Wait why is a 2014 losing the cats? My 03 only lost them after I tuned it because it was popping through them, and that was this year
I could see the cats getting clogged in ten years if it was running rich and/or burning oil for a long time
Is it tuned? Because if you cut the cats out it will need one
Apparently my year car is known for that shit, and transmission.
When i try to drive, by pressing the gas, the rpms go up way faster than my mph can even think about
idk car words.
Is it more like the rpms go up and the speed doesn't kick in for a while? That sounds more like transmission slip than a catalytic converter problem
Well apparently the Ford Cochran Garage cant figure it out because the code its throwing is "in the way" of them knowing if its a transmission issue so
I am unsure
Well, the transmission in that (assuming it's not the manual) is called the Powershift, and it's possibly the worst transmission of all time
like, all of them exploded eventually
I would bring it to another non-dealer mechanic for a second opinion
Issue is im broke as hell so thats why i legit can't get that done, nor another opinion
how many miles are on the car right now
I belive if they confirm the transmission problem, they're obligated to repair it for free
156,000
almost 157,000 actually
before this yes, but i got my throttle body done snd then it was fine. Then a month later it did this
Call me a tinfoil hat wearer, but to me it sounds like the powershift transmission is showing why it has a 10 year 150k mile warranty, and a other one-time extension after that. And the cat problem sounds like a dealer mechanic trying to weasel out of it
So your transmission is extremely notorious for breaking. It is bad enough that they made a 10 year, 150k mile warranty that applies to any owner of the vehicle. The good news is this warranty was extended, so they will do a one-time replacement even though the vehicle is beyond 150k miles and 10 years.
So, bring it to the dealership, pay as little as you can, make them focus on the transmission. They might try to tack on fees or weasel out of it.
But it says they will replace it, based on "Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02". It says they will do it regardless of mileage or ownership (only once though) if it's brought in before June 30th, 2025.
Also, have them elaborate on whatever that "code in the way" is, because that doesn't make much sense to me.
It might take a while, but if the transmission is indeed the issue, they'll fix it and Ford will pay for it.
Then, you can keep the car or sell it for something more reliable depending on how broke you are.
Its a like 240 or 420 P code they said
I can try to find the link to the video they sent me?
Sounds like P0420 which is means the catalytic converter isn't doing its job. Honestly, that also could cause reduced engine performance but it would have to be pretty bad.
If it needs a new cat, it may cost more to fix than the car is worth. What's also likely, though, is that it just needs a new oxygen sensor which would be extremely cheap. So it really depends on what the dealership tells you.
Sorry if I'm confusing you btw
Yeah that was the code. Could i replace the Oxygen sensor myself? Or is it like on the low hundreds? I only went to a Ford garage because i thought they'd know my car better but they really only use codes...i havent seen them actually touch a car or open it up to look.
I usually go to Mazda Baglier because they explain this stuff to me instead of being me feel stupid.
If you trust the Mazda mechanic, they should be able to figure out what the problem is. However, car dealerships should only be used for warranty repairs that are free, since they're like triple the price on everything for zero benefit. Find an independent repair shop near you with good reviews instead.
Whoever you go to, ask them to figure out if your car trouble comes from bad oxygen sensors, bad catalytic converter, or bad transmission. Either a diagnosis or professional opinion.
For oxygen sensors, parts cost is about 80 dollars (USD) to get both sensors, and labor time is one hour so maybe $120 USD in labor. Maybe you could do it yourself if you really wanted, plenty of youtube videos on it. Again though, I'd ask a mechanic before doing anything.
If it's failing it might make you rev higher but nowhere near redline, It just made my truck shift every hill before it got bad enough to missfire
Not sure why its almost red lining then. Maybe ill ask about the oxygen Sensor

This is a slipping transmission
well, good luck
if you want a super cheap and reliable car you could get a 90's camry or some Buick with the 3800 v6
