#1972 Chevy C10 twin turbo
275 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Rearend was a series 4 yukon with 3.73’s. The PO setup the rear end himself with 0 knowledge and basically threw the entire shim pack at this thing and used non match gears.
I took it apart, ordered a 3 series yukon limited slip and 3.42 gears. Installed the setup in my living room. First time doing a rear end build and I think it turned out pretty well.
Ordered a DOD delete and stage 2 turbo cam kit from BTR. Upgraded the trunions to clips, dual .660 springs. Ordered a holley low profile pan and tapped 2x 10an turbo drains and 2x 4an turbo feeds.
The PO was pulling both turbo feeds post oil pressure sensing screen on a T fitting, and T’d the drains together in a U shape, so they werent draining properly. He also welded a drain fitting to the very bottom of the stock pan for the turbo drains, so they definitely weren’t draining properly. The passenger side turbo may need to be rebuilt due to the lack of draining it had. Bunch of very dark oil on the exhaust side of it.
Woah post more man!
Also where are you from?
Canada ontario
Theres not much more to post right now. I might put the rearend back in the truck tomorrow. Then i gotta pull the motor but I got a 6.2 LS taking up space in my garage and motor stand right now that i wanna sell before pulling my truck motor
debating on selling my twin 70mm percision turbos for twin 76mm vs racing ones
Is it really going to make that much of a difference?
I don’t know much about forced induction
It could in the future, for more power later on. Right now I'm aiming for 650-700hp. I could reach 850+ with the 76's though
Can your setup handle that?
Probably not tbh. Axels would be snapping at the very least
4 beer kind of night. Buttoning up the rear end so I can roll it out of the garage to pull the motor
Rearend nearly put back together. Everythings ugga’d tight. Just need to research these rear disk brakes. They seem janky, need to see if its setup properly
Kustomn
The beer, is the reason why I wouldn’t get anything done lol
What a bad ass build. Keep it up
Found out last night that the side panels of my bed are fiberglass
GG @rough hornet, you just advanced to level 4! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Is that good or bad for your purposes?
Good. Less weight
Nice. That's what I thought.
Absolute crazy, I love it
Fuel cell came in, pump hanger came in. Waiting for black friday sales to hopefully pickup a walbro 525lph pump kit.
Rear wheels going back on this weekend, so I can roll it out of the garage to pull the motor
Trying to figure out my audio system now.
Gunna get a 12” sub and 4x 6.5” speakers
isnt there enough sound from exhausts?
There will be, but its always nice to mix a little music in it
Ordered the sub and 12” rockford amp with the enclosure
Otherway around, amp and 12” rockford sub
This. My plan with the Datsun is this. Loud car but I need my music
Finally got my rear brakes back together. Lost a slider pin and had to order new, then found the old one right after.
PO couldnt figure out why he didnt have any brakes, I opened the res and it was bone dry.
Filled it up, went to go bleed the brakes and have found 4 loose brake fittings from him so far..
6.2 off the stand, about to pull the hood off the c10 and then pull the motor
Chances of me taking this hood off by myself… very slim
Light work
Motors out.
Might start tearing it down today if I have time. Need to research on how to gap rings, ive never done it before
12” sub came in. Amp gets delivered tomorrow. Just buying interior pieces if theyre on sale. Main focus is still the exterior/engine
Took advantage of the 10% sale and ordered the head unit.. thing costs more than my whole sound system.
Seats out.
Seat lowering kit ordered.
Need to figure out what i want to do about that shifter.
Need to paint the holley intake
But first im gunna jump back to working on the motor
525lph fuel cell pump ordered,
Seat lowering bracket kit ordered
Arp headstuds ordered
3 point seatbelts ordered
It was an expensive day to say the least
Oh, regulator as well
Ring gapping time
Workin in sandals lol
Assembly has begun. Painted the block after gapping the rings. Got the new cam in, holley knock off pan cleaned up and assembled. Garage is a disaster
Broke my cam gear trying to put it back together. Ordered a new one. Gunna put my fuel cell and audio equipment together tonight instead
Gunna start working in my interior while i wait for my new cam gear to come in.
I think I see blood
Call the ambulance. Cut 3 fingers from that spring tension
Got some stuff done today. Was fucking around with my garage heater forever so didn’t get everything I wanted done.
New cam sprocket came in, threw the limiter into that and torqued that on. Got my LS7 lifters in and started my ARP head studs but need to get a cleaning tool for the threads. So that’s on hold.
Started laying down the sound/thermal dampening pads in the cab
GG @rough hornet, you just advanced to level 5! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
-finished sound dampening the cab
-Got my fuel sending gauge set in
- painted my valve covers
- started looking at the unlabelled fuse panel and gave up…
-figured out the button on the steering wheel is an antilag button
Didnt plan on doing this today, but took out existing pcv studs from the valve covers and drilled/tapped for 1/2”. Put 1/2”x10an connectors on for the catch can
- painted my accessories. Still need to paint my holley high ram but gunna try to focus on wiring tomorrow
Trying to figure out this disaster
PO fucked up the truck wiring majorly. Not only has he cut the shit out of the termi wiring harness but hes feeding everything off of 16awg wire, including the fuel pump and fans that require 10awg. He also fucked up all the relays.
Gunna have to rewire the whole truck.
In other news, I got my head bolt cleaning tool and finished off one side
Studs are done, heads are on and torqued, Rockers are on.
Just need to do oil pan and timing cover to wrap up the motor.
Might focus on organizing the wiring, taking out the holley harness and figuring out whats what with that
Motors done. Need to paint intake still.
Started taking my wiring apart
This is a cool project can’t wait to see it done
geez
thanks boys. Hoping to have it done before spring. Really doesn't need much after I drop the motor in and rewire it. Just need to fine tune it. The rear suspension sits to the drivers side by about 1'' so need to play with that a bit and also run my fuel system
show us
Whenever i get time to work on the truck I always post here with what I got done that day
o did you finish your interiors?
Not yet. Still pulling out the bullshit wiring thats in it. Then need to rewire it all in the proper gauges. Then i can put the interior together. I wanna drop my motor back in, but its -30c outside so waiting for a warmer day to push the truck halfway out of the garage so I can put the motor in
show us when you done wit it fr i experienced that befo in my mechanic shop it takes like almost a day
gunna take me proably longer than a day. I'm putting a lot of effort into this build and have to rerun every wire, minus the stuff for the motor cause im using a terminator x max
Decided to stop having this in the back of my mind and im gunna swap out the used connecting rod bolts with arp bolts
dangg
I lied. Im going with new factory bolts. you have to resize the rods if you go with ARP. Im gunna work on the truck tomorrow and friday hopefully so ill post some updates
Any photos of that fox? Lol
Clean but that C10 has more style
GG @vast hearth, you just advanced to level 1! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Which LT motor is that
I agree
L83 2016
Looks like a stout block
Replaced connecting rod bolts with new. Cleaned up the engine bay, wiped it down, touched up paint, etc in prep to drop the motor back in.
Didnt take a pic but put a 2” hole in my firewall above the trans tunnel and ran my holley harness through it with a grommet.
It’s starting to come together now which is a nice feeling.
I wanted to drop my motor in tonight but it just started snowing a few hours ago and we got about 4” of snow so cant push the truck outside for right now
damn boa yo ass cooking
Waxed and cleaned the engine bay in prep of dropping the motor back in. Tore more of the wiring apart. Gunna order some wire and connector pins and redo the whole thing.
Didnt take anymore pics, but got all that wiring figured out under the dash for the most part. Just need to reloom it. And then swap some 12ga wires for 10ga
Just got back from vacation. Waiting for some connectors for my relay boxes and then ill begin the rewiring process
Begun rewiring the fuse/relay box
GG @rough hornet, you just advanced to level 6! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Rewired the engine bay, changed side markers and turn signals to 14ga, headlights to 12ga and rad fans to 10ga
Just need to loom it. Then ill finish up the interior wiring
Dope that you’re adding wire connections at the fire wall.
What brand of fuse box?
Nice thanks
Did a really nice job rewiring and looming the engine bay, kinda sad at how well i hid the wires
Started rewiring the interior and also test fit my new headlights
Truck bed rewiring complete. Ordered some p clamps and that plastic wire loom to properly protect the wiring.
Interior power feeds all fed back to where the fuse panel sits (in the glove box)
Looking for 2 suggestions -
The inside of the truck bed thats black, should I clean it up or leave it looking used to match the “patina” of the truck?
The holley hi ram, I’ve painted the blockc accessories and valve covers black. Should I also paint the high ram black too?
Killing it man!
GG @shell cloud, you just advanced to level 17! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
My workspace today
Cleaned up 95% of the interior wiring and got it routed back to the fuse panel.
Fuse panels about 99% finished minus the audio system wiring
Ran out of wire loom, so had to stop for the day
Ordered new window trim, door handles, matching lock set
Wirings nearly done, minus the radio setup.
Dash is back in
Hey so I’m gona help you out here I hate to burst your bubble but I’d send these back
I have the same ones and they all stripped out and the passenger window barely rolls up they are awful
They look good they just where super low quality for me and they didn’t work out
Damn. Shame i got chrome ones too so they’ll stand out more too. I didnt wanna go with black cause my whole interiors black and would be hard to find the handles at night.
I’ll see how they look, worst case, I have the originals i can put back on
Im struggling to find a proper door seal for the truck, the amazon ones bulb is too big and the door has to be slammed
That’s what I’m doing I swap them at shows and stuff the door cranks are fine it’s just the dang windows
Have you let them sit in the sun
Just need to run power feed wires for my fuses and start working on the audio setup
The sun doesn’t exist in Canada for long? 😂
Its always overcast here lol
Oh dang that’s sucks man I’m sorry
Motors back in and trannys bolted back up
Wirings 99% done, just need to loom a couple things in the engine bay, and then do radio wiring
Looking damn good your doing a great job of making a nice truck and a fast truck
Attention to detail
Appreciate it. Its taking me a lot more time cause I’m really making sure I do everything to look right and perform right
Do it one and right or twice and wrong the right
Im not a very good welder, but installed my lowering brackets for my bench seat. The custom trans tunnel is a bit too high, so had to weld some spacers in to get the height i needed
Radios in, didnt get a chance to wire it.
Starting to figure out the car audio
Yooooooo
Audios done
Daaaaaang much better than mine 😅
3 point seatbelts are in, seats back in
Gunna start working on the motor tomorrow
@rough hornet might have to swap those graphite gaskets for some metal ones….i blew mine out the 1st or 2nd dyno pull
Ive got some metal 2 layer btr ones. Was debating on using them. I’ll see what happens with these graphite ones first tho
Turbo supports are on and accessories are on
Im gunna finish up the wiring tomorrow, as i seem to be having problems with the turn signals activating
Thanks
No seat cover from me (I have one because I haven’t found the seats I want for sale yet)
Seat cover will be better in the long run, I think.
Interiors 90%complete. Just need to cut a piece of metal to cover where the ac/heat controls normally go, and do door panel stuff, new felts, handles etc.
Engine bay is getting closer. Ordered a bunch of parts like turbo feed lines, 10an drain lines, vacuum lines. Put on the rad, intercooler, exhaust piping. Gunna put on my catch can and call it a night
No cover in my opinion
Put turbo gaurds on, built my turbo drains and hooked up my turbo feed lines.
Cranked the motor over and was seeing 45psi oil pressure while cranking
Might be joining the C10 gang soon lol
Trying to buy a local guys 73 c10 it’s a roller rn but it would come with a 4l80e a 6.0 LS with a btr cam
Interior is realllly nice
The outside isn’t bad either few nicks and nacks here and there but you will get that with all vehicles especially older ones paints a nice color tho
Got any pics?
You mind if I ask what on gods green earth you do to afford the hobbies you have? lol
doesnt have those wheels its on jegs ssr spikes
and doesnt have the 350 sbc
has a few paint flaws here n there most of them are easily fixable because its on the black grill, handles or other
but im just waiting to hear back what he wants for it as a roller with all the stuff for the swap
its also getting wilwood disc brakes front and rear so
would be sick towing my car with this X)
yea its not bad I like the inside a lot. Its not perfect but it just depends what he wants for it
It matches your car!
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
I think he MIGHT like metallic blue.
Got my catch can mounted and plumbed, injectors “tested” and fuel rails on. In the process of ordering a million different fittings to try and figure out a pleasing way to mount my regulator
I could get that c10 for 30k not turn key but putting it together won’t be hard
I feel like that’s not a bad deal cammed 6.0 4l80 setup for AC just needs the condenser also has radio/bluetooth inside is nice
Outside has some shit here and there really mostly on the door where he had scratch fucking with the key hole
You think its worth 30k?
How nice is the paintjob?
Probably is there is carb 350 with 700r4 or 4l60 trans going for 30k most of the nice LS swaps I’ve seen were all like 35k+ the few I’ve seen around 30k are junkyard shitty motors among other things at least in my area anyway
Trucks are over priced by you lol
That didnt workout as planned
Makeup my crossover fuel line, put the regulator
You can see where i mounted my catch can
Old fuel lines are out, new fuel cell with 525lph pump is in, hooked up my driveshaft to my rearend, just need to set my pinion angle.
Still need to adjust suspension side to side as well.
Going to run new fuel lines tomorrow and hopefully start it early next week
this is dope as hell bro keep it up
Started running the fuel lines from the tank to the post pump filter, then intake to filter
Got the intake on for the last time, ziptied wires and hid them the best i could thats final product for coil, injectors and plug wires.
Hoping to start the truck up this weekend
Vacuum lines are done, fuel lines are done.
Just need to wire up the pump and put gas in it.
Hit the rad when drilling out some mounting holes for my IC.. so ordered a new one
No dice.
Fuel pump wont shut off after prime. Truck wont catch, possibly from tuning error or from low battery voltage
Some issues to fix, but its running
New intake positions.
Adjusted my timing a bit at idle, it was only at like 10degrees, now its around 18-20 and sounds much nicer
I gotta get filters for the street
nice work son
New grille. Brake piston was leaking so ordered a new caliper
GG @rough hornet, you just advanced to level 8! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Base tunes done. Sounds much better. New calipers on as well
Seam sealed the original spots
What kinda tires you running
Mickey thompson street et’s in the rear and sportsmans in the fronts. Factory rims but the fronts have been cut and rewelded to 5” wide
Been a minute, but ive been hard at work:
brakes have been figured out and are now fully functional,
Rear 4 link suspension tightened up and pinion angle set
Primed over PO’s name on the doors and will sand to match fake patina when dry
Truck now moves under its own power although the tune needs a little work still
Forgot how short the truck is, or how tall i am. Thats my eye height compared to the roof of the truck
Dude it looks so good out side of the shop!
Hoods on, cant get it to allign at all.
The urethane primer I put on under the hood and the doors did not cure and is super tacky.. probably put it on a little too thick. Just gunna leave it and hope it doesnt just melt when im driving
What brand hood is this?
Or is this the factory one
Factory
My hinges are pretty sloppy though, might just buy new ones
So it’s one of two things and either your hood hinges are worn out your fenders are off
Ive fucked around with the fenders quite a bit and i got more allignment out of adjusting the hood and hinges. I ordered new hinges from summit
Gotcha there you go
Turns out PO thought his snowmobile shocks would hold up the rear end..
Ended up ordering some QA1 coilovers
Took the truck on its first drive today.
Not a fan of the manual brakes or steering.
Get your Brake ratios right and it’ll feel like power brakes and it’ll be super smooth
Its setup properly, i measured it all. I just think im not used to ever using manual brakes
The current MC is 1 1/8” bore. I looked it up and thats for power assisted brakes. I ordered a 7/8 one
Oh yea manual brakes take some muscle lol it’s not like power brakes where you can stop it with your toe you gotta put some beans to it to slow down lol
Yeah, mine are soft till the last little bit then they get hard
Yea same
If you get the ratios right they will feel like power brakes but that’s a lot of work lol
Itd just be as simple as drilling a new hole in the brake pedal. Im setup at 6:1 right now.
New steering wheel, changed tranny fluid and found some glitter but we’re gunna pretend it doesnt exist
Found a hammer in the drivers door panel
Starting running a better exhaust location
Only lasted a couple window rolls lol.. they stripped out. I put the factory ones back on
Oh nooooo lol
Did you?
@sly jasper I ended up not just because I got so much shit on going on with mine I need to get mine dialed in first
Makes sense.
Exhaust is done. Makes it a bit more tolerable. Straight pipe from 3.5” to 3” out behind the cab
Helllllll yeaaaah
Out cruising in the truck. Drives awesome
Woah! Big change
Yeah finally got the tune dialed in with the help of a 2nd guy
Took the truck to a car show, left snd ended up having to baby it home cause the thermostat was stuck
Oh snap
Nvm doesnt seem to be stuck, just seems to be overheating all of a sudden without any real indicating factors on what could cause it
GG @rough hornet, you just advanced to level 9! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Tried a 160 tstat and a 180. Both had temps climb up to 220 at highway speeds but came back down to 190ish when cruising the city
@rough hornet mine climbs to 200-205 on the highway and 190s in town
@rough hornet how did you put water in it
Pulled thermostat housing off, filled block and waterpump first then once that settled i filled the rad. Definitely no air bubbles. I think just not enough cooling
@rough hornet id bet there is air bubbles youd be surprised..... i would get a coolant funnel and raise the front of the truck up and let it get warm and see if it chugs anymore water
mine looked like it was full of water until i gota funnel and raised the front up and it chugged a whole extra gallon or so of water
and those 200-205 degree temps was in like 95 degree weather no turbo blankets and no header wrap
would also help to have a radiator shroud that could also be the problem 220 for an LS isnt like crazy but cooler is better
Yeah i ordered a 4 core rad with fans and a shroud
Im not sure how much it plays a factor but my coolant to water ratio is way off now. A lot more water than coolant
I just run straight distilled water in mine
especially if you plan on taking it to the track they wont allow you to run unless its a street legal
I did that, got maybe a cups worth of extra fluid
Did the heat gun on it twice :
Did the heat gun twice: 2nd set of numbers are respective of the first list:
Temp -187
Heads - 170
Rad - 130/ 110 w fan
Lower hose - 120
Upper - 135
Thermostat housing 170
190
184
110/115 - both fans on
123
153
184
No head gasket leak
Do the fans have a high low setting? Mine do but I run them on high 24/7
@rough hornet a shroud will help a lot being that everything fluid wise checks out…. 190 cruising in town and 220 on the freeway tells me it’s because of the no shroud
Problem is ive diluted my coolant so much that it boils over at 212f lol
I hope my new setup works better, comes in saturday
yea just run distilled water works fine for me and tracks wont let you run if you have coolant
Got it figured out. I put a “race” mishimoto 160 tstat in that opens up more. The truck stays bang on 170-180
Might have blown the tranny up last night after some highway pulls.
Started to feel some vibration afterwards, got home and parked it. Bottom of the bellhousing is dripping pretty good but i cant figure out from where
@rough hornet
is it just me or does it look like the seem weld is cracked open all the way around on the converter
oh holy shit, i didnt even see that
im gunna go look right now
this is how mine looks well my old one anyone lol
it would explain the fluid loss and vibrations
No crack. Seems to be leaking from the front bolts. I think its the front pump oring
damn its hard to trace down leaks in there beause it gets on the converter and fly wheel and flings shit all over lol
Just took it around for 20mins. Parked it, already a couple drips after just a few minutes
Mine has all kinds of leaks
i got leaks out the front cover main seal i got leaky valve cover seals...a leaky fitting on my transmission a leaky rear main seal on my trans and my rear end leaks too X)
Trannys still leaking,
turbo oil drains leaking
Things falling apart but I absolutely spanked some Vinfast suv off the light with spinning through all the gears
I just pretend the leaks arnt there
Its hard to pretend when the smoke is billowing from my hood cause the oils just spraying right onto my header
Fixed the oil leak, trannys still leaking.
I hit 18psi last night. I gotta put smaller springs in it
Fuel regulator diaphram fucked up and pinned the fuel lines to over 100psi.
Filled the intake with fuel from the vacuum line on the regulator.
I changed the oil and fixed the regulator but now i think the pump is fucked from when it saw over 100psi cause it makes a pretty bad screeching noise when it first primes
That’s a little scary!
Yeah thankfully it happened while it was parked cause it shot fuel out of the regulator adjustment screw
