1992 Ford F-150, 300cui Straight Six, Five Speed Manual, 4x4
Short Story: Engine stalls when clutch is released in neutral. Engine is fine, brand new clutch. No noises.
Long Story: Bought this F-150 last week. She was running and driving perfect, not a single issue. On the way home, cruising at seventy, about seventeen minutes into the drive, it started to bog down and stutter, so I went to throw it neutral, and the clutch pedal went to the floor. Obviously it continued to get worse and eventually stalled out and left me on the side of the road. Opened the hood, and there was burnt clutch smell and boiled hydraulic fluid all over. After about forty five minutes the clutch fluid cooled down, the clutch pedal came back and I was able to start the truck in neutral, but it now stalls when the clutch is released, in all gears, including neutral. I replaced the clutch and pressure plate myself yesterday along with the release bearing. I checked both master and slave cylinders and they seem perfect, with zero leaks. Shifter doesn't feel great, but it doesn't feel any different from when I first drove it and I'm able to get into all five gears and reverse.
No idea where to go from here other than just pull the whole thing down again and see if anything's wrong internally. Just don't want to as it's got a transfer case on the tail housing for the four wheel drive. Any advice or idea where to go next will be greatly appreciated!
