You live in Poland. You either buy German or you walk. Its easy to forget that the japs had had a microscopic market share in Europe pre 2000. So you old Japanese cars are hard to come by in Europe, especially in good condition.

The ones you find (especially miatas) are often USDM cars that have been imported.

My family has racked up 800k km in 3 German cars over the last 10 years. We have not had any issues or major repairs. If you maintain them they are reliable. If you don't they deteriorate quickly.

Toyota's are often simple cars and easy to work on. My neighbourhood mechanic is a VW specialist independent shop guy. But he will work on absolutely anything, even Toyotas and he does it well and properly.
The fact your dad refuses to touch anything non Japanese gives the impression he is a shit mechanic.

I have done some basic repairs on our 2016 VW and it was bliss.
