Looking to buy a 2015 lexus GS350, found an awd crafted line with 85K miles for $17,700. Clean title, non smoked in, but it had a bad accident involving a sideswipe on the carfax. airbags didn’t deploy and the car was drivable. After the incident it did a road safety check and drivability check and passed. Looking at the images nothing seems to be misaligned, is this still an okay car or should I stay away? This one is super close to me and I really would like to get this
#Is this car safe?

I was considering trying to lower the price due to the accident and i was gonna bring my mechanic friend with me to take a look
Yes to all of the above. It was cosmetic damage, and if you can’t see signs of the repair then it’ll be fine.
The 2nd pic is the side it got hit on but i’m pretty sure it has to be gnarly to deploy the airbags, so it was probably just a dented door or something. I haven’t gone to look at it, but from what i see the panels look untouched. My dad is co-signing and is really being a pain about this car but I just need something new ASAP 😂
Yeah a sideswipe is rarely an impact that leads to any long term concerns. It’s almost the best possible way to get hit.
My only concern would be the doors being intact and working, which they look perfect so shouldn’t be that bad. I might try to negotiate this in the price though because the listing on cars.com outed them and said it’s overpriced
Yep, exactly. Throw a lower offer out and see if they take it. If the doors open and close ok and - test drive it on the highway with radio off - there’s no discernible wind noise, then you’re good
also has peanut butter spec interior so i wanna get my moneys worth bc im making a sacrifice with that color 💀
these things tend to be really reliable though so i don’t think i’ll have any hidden issues. But it is an out of state car so i’ll need to get it inspected in my state
I would take a paint meter to the dealer and check the side that was repaired
Dealership was closed today, took a little visit since I was in town. Looks really good, only 3 issues I noted were the sunroof seal is cracked a bit, a few small scuffs on the passenger side quater panel, and it has a weird rubber on the bottom of the bumper (assuming its just to avoid scratches)
bird poop on hood aside its really clean
and the condensation on the headlights, but thats not a huge concern
checked tire tread and its 10/10 too
It looks good and in a good spec. Only thing I would look at are the rockers and pillars; especially the b pillar for obvious reasons. Look for anything that might look like damage or worked metal in the A,B,C pillar and in the dog leg when you have the ability to open up the doors.
from what I can see, nothing looks out of place and it looks intact. I will def look at that when I take it for a test drive later this week
Im honestly really suprised with two things - how in shape this thing seems, and how theres little to no negaitve replies at all regarding this car, I have yet to have a single person not reccomend this car
only thing I dislike so far is those headlights
Lexus, generally, is a safe bet. If it was side swiped, the damage may not be immediately obvious. If you dont see any damage that is obvious to the main body, rocker, or pillar. I would say go for it.
those can be replaced.
I haaaaaate that dotted led design, I wish lexus didnt cheap out on the DRLs
If you have a mechanic that you trust ask the dealer if you can bring it to them for a ppi
All the headlights with the good DRL ones that are all one solid bar are $800+
yeah im bringing my mechanic with me on the test drive this week
Ill owe him a pizza lol
Thats a cheap fee. Get him a Mountain Mikes.
might throw in a beer
I would.
If anybody in this thread knows though, is there a way to DIY a drl strip like this?
