1996 Mustang valve cover gasket not fitting

anyone have any tips to make this fit? can’t seem to get it to stay, seems a little too large. Tried 2 other gaskets and neither of them fit as well.

i had the same problem with my ford falcon i just gave up and flooded it with gasket maker and called it a day it was only a cam cover anyway. but i probs wouldnt recommand the same. does it not stay in at all? just post straight out?
