#2008 Nissan Rogue/Qashqai shaking at high speed

Hi there,
I have a major issue with vibrations on my Nissan Rogue/Qashqai (145,000km) : they usually occur after 60mph/100kmh, under load (for example, going uphill), and only during acceleration:
If I release the accelerator pedal, the vibrations stop.

I've changed the tires, done an alignment and balancing: same problem.
I went to see four different garages, all had different opinions:

  • 1st garage: front right and left drive shafts need to be replaced + front suspension arms
  • 2nd garage: everything seems OK, injector cleaning
  • 3rd garage: rear suspension arms need to be replaced
  • 4th garage (which is Nissan): the entire front axle needs to be replaced ($3000+)

I am now a bit lost, I don’t know what to do.
A colleague told me it could perhaps be the automatic gearbox, and he advised me to get a gearbox oil change/cleaning and a check-up.

Thank you for any help,

Sounds like worn out suspension bushings. Garage 1&3&4 are corelated and probably correct.

Tough luck i guess. I cant tell what is broken or not on your car. I would assume its the front ones.

Any weird clicking when going around corners at low speed? Do this with your windows down so you can hear, and check in both directions.

Not necessarily, it may only fail under load or it could fail all the time, I’ve seen them both ways.

Wheel bearings can also be a question too, but that’s less likely. They’d typically feel like you’re driving over rumble strips

#

I’ll also add that I’m with BSSB, whatever this is it’s likely in the front of the car and not the rear

Is it AWD?

Just as a sanity check….. make sure your wheel lugs are tight

Update:
After checking with 3 different garages, everything is OK with the driveshafts, wheels, transmissions, bearings, etc.
A friend told me that it could be coming from my automatic gearbox. Is that possible? Which part could be affected?
He asked me to do a test: switch to neutral as soon as the vibrations are felt. I did that: in neutral, no vibrations, but as soon as I switch back to drive, it vibrates...

If it’s the transmission, you’re likely not going to get much more specific information than what you already know, you’ll just be wanting to go to a shop who specializes in transmissions.

#

I note that in your description of the issue, it only happens at high speed and under load, so that drive vs neutral test would only indicate transmission if: you feel vibrations when in drive and coasting and then you put it in neutral while coasting.

In my comment, yes, transmission = automatic gearbox

For this vehicle, “driveshaft” is also referred to as CV joint, CV axle, Halfshaft, or axle. There are two, either or both could be the problem. If you are able to check out yourself, you can check the condition of these following the instructions in the video I linked above

@frigid sundial @upper holly Thanks for the help! It was a bad CV Axle. Replaced both front: No more shaking!
