My abs light is on and I took it to a shop I know. The guy at the shop told me that it could either be the ABS sensor or the rust in that area could be causing the sensor to be unable to tell wheel speed.
Is there a way to test the sensor so I can see what I need to replace?

The sensor, more than likely, is a magnetic pick up. You could put a meter on the connector and rotate the wheel around and check to see if your readings are changing uniformly.
But it is best to take the wheel off and remove the ABS sensor, it could be rust for sure.
