Hello, I have a 2003 Honda Accord ex with the 2.4l engine and I just hit 199k miles but am due for my oil change. The car burn oil (I wanna say 1 quart for about 600-800 miles) and the oil is very very dark. Should I get an engine flush to clean it out or just do an oil change?
If I don’t respond till tomorrow night it’s bc I work 10 hours then got school after.

The burning of engine oil is not connected to a engine fluid flush. Your oil is black because you have blow by. That is carbon from burnt oil in your motor oil. This is why you are adding so much oil every 600 - 800 miles. Tests : check by the muffler to see if you have black carbon aka soot on your rear bumped. If yes that is a sign your car is burn engine oil with gasoline on the power stroke. Second test is to purchased a cylinder leak down test kit and a air compressor to verify which cylinder(s) are compromised. In practicality, nobody is going to tear down an engine on a 21 year old Accord and rebuild it. This is prime “just keep adding oil” kind of vehicle. That said, agree with the answer to the question, an engine flush is not needed nor will it help.

True and I rebuilt my 1997 Honda Civic engine. Had a blown head gasket. It took me 4 weeks to do the job. It took that long because I had a job and was learning along the way. In the end I recommend doing the job yourself. The end result is you really get to know the car and how it all works. One thing I will strongly recommend if it is a head gasket job replace the piston rings.

Did the same job on a 2000 Civic, same engine. Took the head off, took it to a machine shop, replaced every single seal you can think of, the nine. I miss that car lol

Well on this Accord he is going to have to, that’s why he has blow by. More thank likely a piston ring as seized
Which also may mean the motor is toast depending on how bad the scarring is on the cylinder wall

Its piston ring, confirmed it, did all other possibilities. Engine will die Soo , gonna get a Mazda 3
