1999 Toyota Avalon XL Exhaust modding

Hey! My uncle recently sold me his old ‘99 avalon XL! Its my first car and i want to use it to learn about cars and how to fix and tinker with them! The first thing i would like to do is upgrade the exhaust for fun. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or knew what diameter pipes to get.
Here’s everything i eventually wanna do with the exhaust

Cat back exhaust
H-Pipe
Performance exhaust manifold
ECU remap

If I'm being honest, I would not drop that much money into an Avalon. Buy a second project car that's actually fun, that you don't have to worry about being reliable.
Then again, it is your car and you can do what you like to it.

I would like to do that in the future. But ive had this car inspected inside and out and everything is 100%. It’ll last another 100k. I got it since its an older car, it was super cheap (uncle gave it to me for only $1000) and i could play around with it to learn how to do car stuff haha

Im just beginning my journey now so i wanna play it safe with what i have

I'm not discouraging learning, I'm telling you that if you want to have a car that was worth dumping money into, buy a different car.

Learning is fantastic, but I like to have something be done at the end of it. It's what I did with my miata. I fixed it, and sold it for a bit of a profit. It was also my first car, and I learned quite a lot

It's great that you have a reliable car to play around with, but it's fwd and the chassis isn't exactly noteworthy

I apologize for any miscommunication, i understand that putting money into this car probably isn’t worth it, and i’d definitely be better off with a better project car, but i’d like to see what i can do with this. Im aware its nothing special but its mostly for fun rather than for looks / resale

I'm looking at it from a fun-to-drive standpoint as well as fun-to-build and learn on.

May I ask why exactly you don't want an additional project car?

Im only 19 and living with my mom, I can’t afford a dedicated project car at the moment, but i can drop a few hundred on parts. Plus I’m not sure where i would keep it since my mother doesn’t want a car chillin in the driveway haha. I asked her about this when i saw an ‘03 mustang convertible that needed work and she shut me down xD

Ah, now I see where you're coming from. I would save for a better car if I were you. If you really must learn, I'd start with maintenance stuff-it's a 25 year old car so suspension and anything plastic probably needs attention. Not saying you can't do an exhaust, just a suggestion :)

Best of luck with the car mate! Someone else will probably chime in on the performance side of things, as I only know the basics of that. I mostly do repair/restoration.

I agree! I would have done that with my miata, but the engine was on its way out so to someone else it went lol

Plastic restore is mostly for looks, I wouldn't waste money

Ah gotcha, all the interior stuff is fine when it comes to not being broken xD my uncle was a big smoker so i gotta get the tar and smoke out of the fabric

Stock diameter exhaust should be fine, you can get Like 2hp getting mandrel bend though instead of crush

Do you know what diameter stock is? Looking online i think its 2.25 but i wanna be sure haha

And do you think ill have clearance issues with an aftermarket h pipe?

That or 2.5, but talk to an exhaust shop because H pipe means weird size changes going from single exhaust to dual

And do you think i could switch out the muffler on the exhaust you sent for one of my choosing (without welding haha)
