there are a few different types of codes,
STORED, ACTIVE means it is an active code that is currently happening and will trigger a check engine light
STORED, PENDING. means that a monitor is being run or the car is trying to figure out if its an active issue bad enough to trigger the check engine light
then you have PAST, that means that the code was cleared in the past, and has not come back yet
